Why is our society Rambo on violence and Peter Pan on sex?

Take Grand Theft Auto for example:

Murdering thousands of innocent people with chainsaws and guns - Okay

Your character having consensual sex with a woman - Outrageous! Somebody give it an AO rating!!!

Puritans basically. The US has a lot of deep seated sexual repression which manifests itself in gory violence among other things.

I'd assume it's because realistically, parents believe that their kid would never go down the street killing thousands of innocent people with chainsaws and guns, despite the child reenacting that scenario within the video game. The idea of their child doing so is just, well, :083: and beyond conceptualization. With sexual contact however (at least in Grand Theft Auto), it's portrayed as something fun to do with no consequences. A parent doesn't want their kid to learn that having consensual sex is something they should do, because that act is within their power, whereas purchasing weapons and killing typically is not.

I honestly don't know too many people who would agree and say that sexual acts in a video game like Grand Theft Auto is correct, though.

Maybe because that sort of violence is rather over the top. You can't do a lot of that stuff in reality, and get away like you can in those games. (Gun law is a topic for another thread). So basically out of reach.

Sex isn't all that out of reach though. Although I personally feel that the taboo is a bit too much.

I guess it's also due to the fact that violence is easy to depict unrealistically (and yet be treated seriously), which creates a detachment from RL violence, so while you may be killing hundreds in GTA, you won't do that in real life. Sex doesn't have a similar equivalent, I think.

Truth is binary, not a continuum.
It's not quite that simple.

The mainstream media does everything in its power to excuse violence from groups who are useful to the Leftist agenda while demonizing anything which threatens their short-term collective self-interests.

They're not actually concerned about censoring fictional sex or violence (with an appropriate rating), only the politically incorrect kinds of sex and violence. Feminists in particular will continue to invade the gaming industry as long as the content remains mostly out of their control. They couldn't care less if hundreds of thousands of white men are brutally murdered throughout the course of a game or whether male characters are sexually "objectified".

The Leftist hatred toward traditional heterosexuality is rooted in Marxism. They wish to destroy the nuclear family so that their public indoctrination/welfare programs go unopposed. That is to establish maximum government dependency.

People who identify with the religious Right are frequently hostile toward those who glorify casual sex, though it isn't out of bigotry. They want society to prioritize familial stability over unrestrained, self-destructive, nihilistic hedonism. A sustainable future requires us to restore the discipline we've lost thanks to the recklessness of the Left.

:083:

It really depends on the culture. If the kids are shown that violence is alright in a whole, this generation will be alright with it. It's currently happening nowadays with sex, in a few years it will loose its taboo tag.

There are also differences between real life violence and the one pictured in medias like video games. In GTA, I don't mind exploding people with a rocket, it's fun. But anything that has to do with torture I just can't. I don't know how messed up sex could be represented in this, but it would be pretty different than real life, and different than violence. There are a bunch of cases of boys with erectile dysfunction because of how unrealistic pornography is nowadays.

Is it a good thing that sex becomes obsolete? I don't think so.
