why does everyone want ridley?

why exactly do so many people want ridley in brawl? a character like him, imo, could never fit into brawl, but everywhere around the forums there are people rooting for his inclusion. with the new metroid stage announced im becoming increasingly worried that ridley will in fact be included as a playable character, and imo it would be by far the worst character decision Sakurai has ever made.

Ridley's threads have produced excessive flaming in the past. Ridley supporters are certaintly a dedicated breed. Infact, this very thread is the sort of flame bait that is condemned here, i'm expecting this thread to produce some flames

But, the main reason why he's popular is he's just plain badass. I mean, who wouldn't want to play as a plasma breathing space dragon? It also seems pretty likely he'll be added given his place in sakurai's polls.

Well, he's the second most deserving, important, recognizable, popular character of the Metroid series. And the most badass, for sure.

He has been in the most of the Metroid games, he's very important in Metroid Prime, Super Metroid and, he's who made Samus a bounty hunter.

He could have a very good moveset (and, having Prime material, he could have his plasma breath).

Metroid needs representation, now is one of the most famous Nintendo series, and Ridley is, by far, the best newcomer of this series.

Smash Bros. is a fight between the most popular and important Nintendo charaters, and Ridley is the most important character in the Metroid series after Samus herself.

Also, he has four votes in Sakurai's journal, like Ike and Diddy Kong.

And seriously, who can hate a badass plasma breathing space dragon?

He's the second-most recurring Metroid character after Samus herself, he's her archenemy, and he's got a cool character design. Furthermore, Ridley appeared in the opening cinematic of Melee and in trophy form in that same game, which is somewhat of a pattern among many of the the confirmed newcomers. If Metroid gets a second representative, which most believe it deserves, then for the above reasons, Ridley is the frontrunner.

i kinda agree...ive never seen whats so special about Ridley. i wouldnt mind seein him as a boss in SSE but i wouldnt want him 2 b playable. hes too big and if they scaled him down he wouldnt be the same, thats why hed make a better boss. but i wouldnt b surprised if he made it in...

i was aware that i was going to recieve intensely heavy criticism from a lot of people...

i just dont think ridley is suited for smash bros. the metroid series has been solely based on one main character, samus. Sakurai has expressed interest in adding representatives from different series' into smash bros, thats why he put metaknight and king dedede in from the kirby series, but the fact is smash bros does not need another metroid representative. the mario series has many characters in smash bros because there are many main characters to every mario game, metroid has ONE. i think Sakurai is just looking for an excuse to add Metroid characters to smash bros. i agree that he would probably have an interesting, unique moveset, and i could understand him being in as a boss in SSE, but i just dont think a character of his size and stature is suited to fast-paced, action-packed fighting which smash bros is all about

People want him in because they like Metroid, and Ridley is the second most importance character in the series, considering he basically made Samus what she is. Plus, he's just an awesome character...A Plasma Breathing Alien Space Dragon...that's awesome.

this is wrong to begin with and fails, samus was turned into a bounty hunter by her desire to destroy ridley once and for all. the series is about her struggle to save worlds and kill ridley.(who never dies)

The only real reason I want Ridley is because it's simply unfair to Samus' and the Metroid series to have one rep for three games straight.

We're in need of villains and we don't exactly have many heavyweights.

Many people also thought the Pokemon trainer would never make it. He seemed to "hard to fit in since he can't fight himself." It just comes to show if a character is cool and popular that it stands a chance of making it. And Ridley is awesome. Nuff said. I hope they use the Zero Mission Ridley design.

Having opposing characters adds flavor to the game.
With link, you have Ganon, yadadadada.
Antagonist are easily remembered and help represent a game just as much as the protagonist does.
Because metroid is a large game of nintendo don't you think that one character is really stunting the possibilities?
I hate that people think someone has to "look" like they should be in the game. Think about how unweildy charzard must have been to make, and he is in the game. Just because ridley is more sinister looking doesn't mean he doesn't belong.
