but see, after watching all those videos...it reminds me why I didn't like the advanced techs in melee, cause all those videos were, was shorthop, any attack, wavedash, rinse, repeat.

it's just boring to watch them.

and everyone used the same god**** characters, Peach, Sheik, Marth, Fox, Falco.

honestly IMO, melee is just...meh compared to brawl.

I got to admit, we all have our opinions of what is interesting, obviously Sonic-F is a minority (no offense, I like both, so please don't hurt me.)

He's also somewhat right on more characters being tourney-viable in Brawl, it's a nice feeling.

Also Sonic-Fan, if you're going to post so frequently here, you need an abbreviation for your name, I wager SonFan.

I actually don't want to be called that, I made the stupid user-name when sonic was announced for brawl cus I was leik "OMG, SONIC IN BRAWL?!? aoibeqgoiqbgogbwogb"

but yeah, my brawl screenname is slinky slink, or slink for short. so just call me slink.

EDIT: and yeah, just disregard the above, i don't wanna cause any fights because I'm being a sh*thead and I can't shut up about me own opinions.

you forgot about CF

and dont worry about the whole "viable characters thing" eventually people will learn all the matchups and that number will start thinning out.

im still trying to figure out if sonic will make the cut, im thinking hell miss it barely

Sonic's Roy tier IMO.

He doesn't suck, he just has a couple short comings and requires a good player behind him. He still has great qualities to him though.

See what I'm saying?

really? you think? there will always be SOME that will use every character...

I know I'm sticking with sonic till the bitter end. (or rather till SSB4, which he better fuggin be in again or else **** will hit fans across the world)

I've actually had moments of weakness, where I was like...CAN I play sonic?? (since he was really hard to learn) and I almost contemplated quitting him for my old melee main (Sheik) BUT! my Sonic fanboyery prevailed and now I lurf using him.

EDIT: love that comparison Boxob, gotta use that more often...

Dont' worry about stating your opinion "Slink", it comes with the Social Sonic boards A.K.A. SWF's back-alley.

Just make sure you don't go overboard with the s***, or you'll get banned.

that doesnt make that character viable.

sliq is one of the like 3 people that still uses bowser, and he might be the best bowser in the country but that doesnt change the fact that he almost never places higher than 3rd/4th. which means bowser cant win tourneys which means bowser isnt really viable...

The Gimpster has abandoned Brawl-Bowser.

Also who would the other two be?

But seriously, just because Bowser has a lot of bad things going for him, how can he not be viable?

I can only see Falcon as unviable in tournaments... maybe Jigglypuff and Link, but everybody else seems to have a shot. (and other people I am too lazy to mention)

If you look hard enough for example, Bowser does have some nasty tricks up his sleeves.

My link could win tourneys. I would just need to get some matchup experience first. Same for my falcon, really.

I don't play puff enough at all, I think I've used her a total of five times.

It sucks for characters like bowser, his gimmick is relying on other peoples stupidity. He's less viable than falcon and link for sure.

but if the opposing player knows what those tricks are, it kind of renders them near useless, same goes for sonic to a lesser degree.

the only other bowser i know is kish prime, or is it kish squared... i dont even remember but i do know that i had to ask sliq himself if there even were any other bowser mains left.

and it depends on you definition of "viable" cus at this point, all 38 characters can top 8 in a decent sized tourney, but the number of characters that can win is drastically reduced, to like 7 or so.

Well let's talk Ness, just how viable is he really?

Not that I'm dissing the boy, but there's no question he will be low-tier unless the Ness' pull something out of their butts like now.

whatever happened to gimpy's bowser?

EDIT: didn't read above, sorry.

I think sonic has a shot at winning some tourneys for those who use him well enough...he's got some sexy mindgaimes.

It's nice to have Jesiah as your friend, isn't it K.I.D.?

Also the Gimpster hates Brawl, simply put.

And here, I though California had some kind of competitive Brawl scene.

West Coast fails.

going back on topic for a sec, I second Sonic because I'm a sonic fan and he's actually pretty awesome when it comes to embarassing the other opponent via speed and "you're too slow"

Chu doesn't play ICs in Brawl, but they're definitely not unviable, lol.

Sometimes it's nice to just switch mains, especially if you're trying to keep good habits for that char in Melee. Not sure if that's the case for either Chu or Gimpy, but w/e.

EDIT @ SF- Melee is better because the amount of skill that took to play that game is greater than in Brawl. Someone who rocks at Melee could wipe the floor with a scrub. In Brawl, a scrub has better chances of beating a better player simply because of the lesser skill needed in Brawl. Also add in things like tripping, easier to grab ledges, and how godly everyone's recovery is compared to Melee.
This makes no sense to me. Melee required more tech skill, definitely, but I wouldn't say "more skill". It's a different game, with different requirements. Melee favoured people with amazing control over their own character; muscle memory, subtle timing issues with maneuvering the stage in strange ways, L-cancelling everything, etc. If you think that makes a fighting game good, then fine.

Brawl takes away some of that bias towards tech skill, reducing the game more to the 1v1 neutral state; you vs. opponent, the raw dancing around rock-paper-scissors scenarios, etc. The game is at a slower pace with respect to the number of inputs you need to make per capita, but has many situations in which reaction time needs to be just as fast, since it's you vs. opponent with attacks/dodges that happen within just a few frames.

Melee pros are good at Brawl because they're often good at smash; the raw you-vs-opponent aspect, they've already learned that on top of the tech skill. Brawl players obv won't be as good at Melee, because they haven't practiced all the subtle techskill intricacices ad nauseam. That doesn't mean Brawl players are any worse than Melee players; while tripping gives scrubs an extremely slight advantage in brawl, arguably the same scrubs get an advantage for memorizing L-cancelling in Melee rather than reading their opponents better. Basically, you can't compare Brawl vs. Melee, you just have a personal bias towards an arbitrary activity that IMO is largely irrelevant to the actual raw fighting aspect.

Tripping is dumb, no matter how you look at it. Trying to go for a running grab and then it happens, followed by the opponents get-up attack hitting you for example while you're still in tripping lag. It fails hard, not even the Brawl scrubs who have any ounce of competitiveness in them like tripping.

But compared to the other regions... TX alone probably makes up for more than the WC has to offer in terms of Brawl tourneys.

Seriously, I should be somewhere in the Midwest, they need more Sonic's up there, but the EC and SW are covered.

Yeah, you got me infzy.

I was just really pissy and felt like arguing to be completely honest >_>

I still like both games though for those reasons, and with that I enter chill mode.

He needed more colour. Honestly, I get tired of him just being blue the whole time, on blue final destination.... and all his alt colours are just blue with coloured wristbands :(
