I could see Dr. Mario return as one, but not Metal Sonic or Funky Kong. Female pokemon trainer might be an option, although I'm skeptical/indifferent. However, I'm choosing to assume Ness will be an Alt. Costume of Lucas, at very least an alt. colour. Due to the wording of the update, I highly doubt there will be alt. costumes for other characters, but if there is, these are the most likely. in my opinion.

Yup thats the exact quote from Sakurai himself. Wario is the only one to get a alt costume.

The Ice Climbers can change gender. So Wario is NOT alone, Sakurai could have meant alone in this update or alone in getting two MAIN costumes or even alone in getting overalls.

Lucas can have a Ness costume because Ness is nothing more than a Color-Swap away from Lucas, so the "Ness' costume wouldn't be an alternate costume like Wario's, it would be a Color swap like Dark Link or Fusion Samus or Daisy for Peach

Those are color swaps, not alternate costumes. Alternate costumes physically change the character model used, Color Swaps use the same character model and simply alter the color patterns and hues in order to make them look different.

Personaly I can't see why he would waste a feature on one character only.

Oh and Daisy, she was an alt constume in SSBM, her earings changed and I believe some other things too.

That just doesn't make sense. Sakurai is going out of his way for this game. Why would he introduce just one alt costume.

Pikachu's glasses, headband, etc. all change his character model. Popo and Nana's hair aren't just colors that change the model a little bit too. So as I had said before, Wario is NOT alone, and I don't think he'll be the only one to get costumes.

Those don't change the dimensions or textures of the character model, Nana and Popo are nothing more than a color swap and then an invert of their positions, Pikachu/Pichu have a small sprite added on top of their head, there is no physical changes made to the character, just swaps

Whereas what was done with Wario was an actual character model change, what Wario had done was much more of a stretch than adding a sprite on top of a head. Hence why "wario alone is special", why is he special? Because he's the only character with a physical character model change "alternate costume", Sakurai specifically stated this. The effort needed to give characters complete alternate costumes was most likely much more than they wanted to do, hence why in most cases any effort towards making a character look like another version of themselves was nothing more than a palette swap, but Wario alone they decided to make it work

Wario appears to have huge lag and start up, even worse than Ike.

The reason we won't get a proper fusion suit is because the fusion suit lacks the shoulder pads. Remember, after Samus' final smash, all the pieces of the suit are grabable so some parts would be taken out.

They're both on the same character slot.

You also don't have to pick the name Link, but that doesn't mean he's called "Green-clad Hero." Besides, his name is shown to be Red in Gold/Silver.
