Why can't anyone see that the "breaking rules" thing is just a different way of meaning "breaking the habit"?
In most cultures the very same story comes forth. It's a very simple story, not too complicated. Basically it's about a peaceful world being invaded by a dark force, disturbing the serenity of the once beautiful world. Only one or a few heroes can turn back everything to the old ways.
It's a story we've seen a dozen of times, even in Mario games. So basically the story isn't that hard.

Obviously Mario broke the rules by reviving Kirby and refusing to fight. The subspace thingys get pissed, and try to kick your ***. It doesn't sound complicated, really. =/
In this world, trophies fight.
They know nothing but fighting. Fighting is the sole reason for their existence.
Being turned back into a trophy, being unable to fight, is much like death.
Those are the rules of this world.

I don't think that's the story.
Sakurai's last sentence makes that very obvious: When someone... OR SOMETHING... breaks the rules..
I don't know what the thing is Sakurai means though... maybe that flaoting commander thing isn't human or alien-like...

The Subspace Army is probably defying the laws of the Smash world by turning Smash fighters against each other. Just look at Wario and Bowser.
