    • Jumps around chucking lances at opponents; can be K.O.'d
    • Arthur's armor keeps him from being launched far, but strong enough attacks break it and he's more vulnerable
    • If left alone long enough, he upgrades to Holy Armor and gains super armor
  • Solaire of Astora
    • Throws lightning spears at his enemies; can be K.O.'d
  • Shovel Knight

My ideal Smash game is called Super Smash Bros. Eternal. It's an Ultimate sequel that buffs the roster to 100 total characters, and then tosses in just a few more as DLC. I'm not finished with this yet, so I'll come back to this later for some updates...

  • There is no limit to how many alternate costumes each character has, but everyone still has at least eight, one for each player slot.
  • Every character has a special "Reward Tree," in which the player can unlock new things by constantly playing as the character and/or clearing specific challenges with them. These Trees unlock things such as alternate costumes, Mii costumes, songs, and even stage skins. The final reward for each character is a special Golden Alternate Costume. Use this to flex on your friends!
  • Just like in Ultimate, every stage has a default form, a Battlefield form, and a Final Destination form. However, this game introduces Stage Skins, which can alter the stage to resemble a different location and/or feature new hazards. Because of this, there are technically no stages that share layouts.
  • Assist Trophy characters/Poke Ball Pokemon have been upgraded to follow a similar system to Fraymakers. Assist characters are attached to a meter that fills as you deal/receive damage. Once full, you can press a button to summon your Assist, who serves a simplified function before disappearing. While more complicated and/or powerful Assists are still available from items, these simpler Assists are actually designed to be tournament legal.

  1. Mario
  2. Donkey Kong
  3. Link (Still uses his BotW design by default, but Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and Ocarina of Time designs are available through costumes)
  4. Samus (Has her Fusion Suit, Dread Suit, and Justin Bailey as alternate costumes)
  5. Yoshi
  6. Kirby
  7. Fox
  8. Pikachu (Chase appears as its Trainer in the background)

I actually have a WIP doc dedicated to this topic so I have a rough idea of how this would look like.

Dream Roster 6.png

Luigi, Samus, Ganondorf have largely new movesets. Luigi is based on Luigi's Mansion, Samus is based on Dread, and Ganondorf is based on his boss fights
Dark Samus has new Smash attacks based on her assist trophy

Bowser, DK, Diddy, K. Rool, Samus (+ ZSS) all have their voices from their respective game series

Special Smash
Training - Moved to the Smash category.
ADVENTURE MODE
Not World of Light, but rather a Metroidvania-style beat em up platformer. Think of it like Smash Run but with a much larger map, single player (unless you decide to play in co-op), and with some battles against unlockable fighters and bosses. The areas are based on series represented in Smash. There are few cutscenes but story is de-emphasized in favor of gameplay
Classic Mode - Some of the routes are changed to accommodate for the new characters introduced since, and some are completely revamped. In addition. the bonus minigame is now different for every fighter, being either Board the Platforms, Break the Target, or Race to the Finish

  • For Glory
With Friends
Online Tourney
Smash Run - Same gist as the regular Smash Run, but online
Spectate
Shared Content
Spirits - De-emphasized for this game. Honestly, with this being an "ideal" Smash game I'm thinking of switching back to trophies since I like them way more as collectibles.
  • Spirit Board
  • Collection
Sounds
Replays
  • Video Editor
Records
  • Stats
  • Milestones
  • Battle Data
  • Smash Tags
  • Past Opponents
Challenges
Tips
Movies - also includes all newcomer trailers
Shop
Mii Fighters
Stage Builder
amiibo

Might add more to this in the future. DLC is currently not planned but two fighter passes with 5 characters each are something I would consider

If I were in charge of Smash, I would ensure no game has any cut characters and limit each third party franchise to one rep, although any company can have as many characters as they can per franchise.

001). Mario
002). Donkey Kong
003). Link
004). Samus
005). Yoshi
006). Kirby
007). Fox
008). Pikachu
009). Luigi
010). Captain Falcon
011). Ness
012). Mewtwo (replaced Jigglypuff, who will rather instead appear as a Poke Ball Pokemon)

013). Peach
014). Bowser
015). Ice Climbers
016). Zelda
017). Sheik
018). Olimar (replaced Dr. Mario, promotes Pikmin as a recent GameCube release)
019). Scizor (replaced Pichu as the Gen 2 rep)
020). Falco
021). Marth
022). Ganondorf
023). Skull Kid (replaced Young Link)
024). Wario (thrown in to take Mewtwo's slot as he was added in 64)
025). Roy
026). Mr. Game & Watch

027). Meta Knight
028). Pit
029). Wolf Link (Link transformation)
030). Zero Suit Samus
031). Little Mac (thrown in to take Wario's slot as he was added in Melee)
032). Snake
033). Ike
034). Pokemon Trainer (fights by himself)
035). Charizard
036). Sceptile
037). Diddy Kong

039). Sonic
040). King Dedede
041). Louie (takes Olimar's spot as the second Pikmin rep)
042). Lucario
043). Villager
044). R.O.B.
045). Midna (replaced Toon Link)
046). Wolf

049). Alph (separated from Olimar, Pikmin 3 promotion)
050). Wonder Red (Wonderful 101 promotion)
051). Zoroark
052). Greninja
053). Rosalina
054). Waddle Dee (Triple Deluxe promotion)
055). Barista (thrown in to take Little Mac's spot (as the Rhythm Heaven rep) as he was added in Brawl)
056). Mii Brawler
057). Mii Swordfighter
058). Mii Gunner
059). King Hippo
060). Palutena
061). Pac-Man
062). Chrom
063). Shulk
064). Bowser Jr.
065). Duck Hunt
066). Dark Pit (not as a Pit echo)

067). Ryu (would replace Mewtwo's DLC according to the "no cuts" rule)
068). Inkling (Splatoon promotion)
069). Ridley (meaning the Ridley boss stage would have to be scrapped if he were eventually to be added as a playable)
070). King K. Rool
071). Elma (Xenoblade Chronicles X promotion)
072). Cloud
073). Azura (Fire Emblem Fates promotion instead of Corrin)
074). Bayonetta

075). Spring Man (ARMS promotion instead of Min Min, since he would've made more sense considering he's the ARMS mascot and was initially planned)
076). Daisy (not as a Peach echo)
077). Dark Samus (not as a Samus echo)
078). Celica (takes Chrom's spot for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia promotion)
079). Rex
080). Pyra (transformation character with Mythra)
081). Mythra (transformation character with Pyra)
082). Simon
083). Bomberman (replaces Richter as the additional Konami rep)

085). Isabelle
086). Jill Valentine
087). Eevee (Kanto Switch remake promotion)
088). Waluigi (would be represented as a Wario character because it wouldn't feel right to have him separated from Wario)
089). Crash

090). Joker
091). Hero
092). Terry
093). Byleth
094). Banjo & Kazooie

095). Akira (takes Min Min's slot as Spring Man should have been in the base roster to begin with, Astral Chain promotion)
096). Steve
097). Rayman (replaces Sephiroth's DLC according to "third party franchises limited to one character" rule)
098). Heihachi (replaces Kazyua's DLC since Heihachi is technically the Tekken mascot)
099). Ayumi Tachibana (Famicom Detective Club promotion)
100). Sora

My wants in Smash generally concern stuff that's under the hood, or more about how the game plays than its presentation. There's some other stuff too, but a lot of my enjoyment comes from playstyles more than the characters themselves, so that's where I'm coming from.

I'd like to see a an abundance of moves that have unique functionality compared to others of their type. I like Roy and Chrom's jab, for an example, since it serves as a combo starter in a game where almost every jab is a get-off-me tool. Ganon's Up-smash in Smash 4 is another good one. It had a long start-up, but very little lag afterward, which made it especially threatening in neutral and gave you a good setup for mindgames. An extension of this idea would be to allow some multi-input moves to be cancelled again. Marth dancing blade 1 combos were the coolest thing to me, and it wouldn't upset me if each of the Marth clones had their own unique cancels to give the move more flair across the board (assuming they all returned). Basically, I want characters to feel meaningfully different to play even if they are visually similar. I want the sentiment "X character is just Y but better" to be gone.

Systematically, I'd want a game where many playstyles work well. I don't know what that would take, but I don't think we're quite there yet. It might come down to more conscious design choices about how each character can deal with different situations (projectiles, gimping, anti-airs, etc.).
It would be nice if there was a more custom version of the hazards toggle. Each stage gets to be toggled in whatever way, platforms and proper hazards are separate options, and transforming/random stages allow multiple versions of the stage when hazards are off. I'd make it so you select the stage and then a submenu asks which version you want.

And always bring back Big Blue.
Biggest thing here is a more robust stage builder. Let switches be unattached to the objects they modify. Let me put multiple objects on the same track. Give an option so flat platforms can act like normal flat platforms in terms of collision. Those three things would open up the builder so much.

Subspace 2 would be really nice, and I really want a proper return of boss mode. Probably half my time in Brawl saw spent in those two modes.
I'd like character costumes to be a more regular thing, and a color editor would be nice. If we get really extra, a custom weapon choice like Soul Calibur would be neat. For instance, Cloud would be able to equip the nail bat or Ultima Weapon.
First thing is that I'd revamp the Fire Emblem squad a bit. Corrin's gone (sorry Corrin players) and replaced with either Azura or Takumi. Lyn gets Roy's spot, and either Lucina gets a revamped moveset or a heavy armor unit (like Edelgard or the Black Knight) takes her spot. As much as I love Chrom, he doesn't really have a great spot unless he gets in as a semi-clone of Lucina, and I really want that heavy armor unit. Plus, we're talking 10-ish unique FE characters if I include everybody, and that seems like a lot. Even for one of my favorite series. I just want the roster to better represent how diverse characters are in the actual games, and this is how I'd do it.

Give Zelda a little something. Same for Kirby. Keep going with Xenoblade. And since this is my ideal smash game, a Bravely Default character.

Let's see! Take everything ultimate has and add the following...

Characters:
Pokemon Gym Leader: Swaps between 3 pokemon like PT but modeled after Giovanni or Cynthia
Ring-Fit Trainer (laugh/cringe all your want!)
Zagreus from Hades
King Boo
Impa
Skull Kid
Krystal

Adjust Echo fighters
Give echos a little more diversity like chrom

Character skin DLC:
Alt colors as well as alt models such as Link's different tunics, Mario character sports clothes, etc

Stages:
All Past stages left out from 64, Melee, Brawl, and smash4 I'd also love to be able to fight at past BF and FD incarnations
Bowser's Castle (why this hasn't been made to it's own stage, I have no idea)

Online:
Obviously better functioning
Drop gsp and add a real ranking mode!

For my big-time smash nerd nostalgia:
Every character in the game gets their own unique break the targets like from melee
Bring back Trophies!

and finally...

Subspace Emissary sequel with the entire cast and with 2 hours of high-def cinematic cutscenes!

Just remove spotdodge cancel, please god remove spotdodge canceling. I would also remove a lot of clones, they bloat the game roster.
