What makes a Fighting game character good?

Frame data, mobility, damage output, KO potential, character matchups, even tournament results comprise a good character. Some apparently notorious examples include :metaknight:, :4cloud:, Devil Jin (Tekken 5), Jin (Tekken 3 & Tekken 4), etc. I could go on but y'all get the point.

Having good options and access to those options. In other words, having good moves that are fast or have good range, having kill opions, and having great movement options. Most characters that have these traits are consistently good in smash games (sheik, marth, fox) where, on the other hand, characters that lack these options are consistently mediocre (zelda, ganondorf).

Of course, it varies from game to game. They're good if they possess better traits than most of the roster. They need useful moves, and to be able to get in damage.
