I was thinking of ways monsters could be worked into a Monster Hunter moveset where they could be "summoned" by either a Hunter or Palico. Maybe by using a some kind of metered special to lay down bait, then after a few seconds a monster appears and goes toward the bait, damaging anyone in the way. They wouldn't be playable, but at least the player would be able to generally influence where the monster attacks.
