Sonic was definitely my guy back in the day. I used to play him against my brothers all the time and they would even call my usage of him to be "cheap". It's pretty funny looking back on that because Sonic isn't even that great in Brawl.
I main luigi, samus, mario, but I do have a pocket mk just to teach other people the mu. Not everyone plays mk lol and most people that did back in 2008-2014 were pretty bad. Then there were a few ics because it is hard to do the grab under pressure. I know because I was there at the tournaments.
Also the game is still alive.
These are brawl tournaments in 2018 not including 8 locals that were hosted in missouri and 5 other events like the brawl side event at big house. 2017 had if not the same amount of tournaments.

Upcoming tournaments are Garelaf 13, Vivaldi smash in norway, and then Smash con will be having brawl as well.

I actually used to main MK but my GameCube controller broke and i dont have another one or a classic controller (pro), so i use wiimote and nunchuck and its not that comfortable to play MK with it.
Ah I see. Yeah makes sense.

Brawl Zero Suit Samus was the bee's knees. She had throwable items at the start of a match, a Smash attack that hit in two directions, a side B that functioned like a better forward smash, and an Up-B that dragged you down from the air that could combo into itself. She was a pretty unorthodox character at the time compared to the rest of the roster, and I preferred her playstyle in Brawl compared to Smash 4 and Ultimate.

No i swear its hard to play him with the wiimote and nunchuck, especially with the wiimote sideways

Some others like UltimateRazr/GrimTurtle made it work. I used to sacrifice the D-pad/1 and 2 button taunts for things like Smash attacks/an extra grab button for Z-air shenanigans.

Brawl Diddy was a broken, beautiful, obnoxious mess and I love him and he remains one of my favorite characters in any Smash period.

Meta Knight because how fun he is to play in Brawl, him flying around all over the stage.
I also had a lot of fun with playing Lucario and Diddy Kong in Brawl.

Meta Knight was the only character I ever wanted in Smash, and he got in the game. Brawl>Ultimate>Smash 4 in terms of how much fun each meta Knight is. I don't plan to play Brawl, but since Wolf and Snake are in Ultimate, I have no reason to try to main them in Brawl. Meta Knight has to be the main. If I couldn't use Meta Knight I'd either have to go Wolf or Lucario because I love playing them a lot, and they feel like they play a lot differently in Brawl as well.

Oh yeah, Pokemon Trainer with Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard was a lot of fun to play for me, despite the battle fatigue.

I like Bowser and Meta Knight quite a bit.
Polarizing, I know. Bowser's my Smash main through thick and thin, and Meta Knight...it's not even that he's really good, he's just really, really fun.

I never played Brawl competitively (or any Smash game competitively) but since he was my main in Melee, I mained Ganondorf in Brawl.
I don't own Brawl, but a good friend of mine does and we would play Brawl a lot before he got a Switch and moved to Ultimate.
In parties, we used a rotation system where the winner would keep playing until he lost. It backfired because I was punching everyone else out big time, kicking their butts, biting their heads off, spitting in their eyes and making them wet their pants. Ok, that's an exaggeration, but I was always winning and they had to tell me to stop playing so other people could play too.
Still one of my most treasured Smash-related memories.

The two characters I mained were King Dedede and Ganondorf. I think that is one part, my liking for powerful characters who have the means and ends to punish mistakes well; and one part, my soft spot for characters that are looked down upon or underrated, at least by the company I had at the time. I can actually recall that as an interesting trend of mine-- the tendency toward characters in games besides Smash Bros. that were disliked by others.

Lucario. I didn't have Brawl to play on my own, and I stunk at it. But with Lucario, my strategy of running away the whole match would sometimes pay off thanks to aura 
And I think I'd stick with him if I played Brawl seriously. It's a shame that he got less fun with each subsequent game that came out.

My Brawl main is Link even though this iteration of him is probably his worse version in all of the series. In terms of the basics, he's been my comfort pick since I started using him back in Melee.

duel mained falco and marth but my friends knew me as that low tier guy cause i was pretty good with a ton of low tiers - puff,falcon,zelda,ganon.

I used so many characters at a time when I didn't take this game seriously. Ness, Wario, Wolf, G&W, Toon Link, Luigi, and Dedede all come to mind.
Today, I main Toon Link and feel happy as heck to be doing so. I also secondary Falco because he is a blast and can deal with MK.
