Apparently besides the regular jump, there is tap jump and short hop. What are these and how do you do them?

Wrong section!

Go ask your question in the General Melee Forum.

Those are the forum's guidelines.

Well, you could have at least answered his question.

Tap jumping is using up on the control stick to jump.

Short hopping is... well, exactly what is sounds like. Hopping short. Just tap X or Y as lightly as possible.

BTW, this is ALSO in Brawl, you know.

Ok, and one more question. I heard that people use short hop more than regular jump. In the Brawl options mode, is there a way to make a normal jump a short hop? Like, you dont need to lightly tap it, you can just jump regularly and it will short hop?

You can find all your answers in this thread

ETA: Except for that one. The answer is no, it's just a context-sensitive action. There's no option to make it automatic.

lol. From what we know, there's no way to reduce sensitivity to buttons... so... no.

But eventually, if you do it enough with Melee and Brawl, most likely, you'll get used to it.

No short Hopping is simply the technique of..short hopping, in brawl there wont be any options to shorten the hop (unless the dojo reveals it for some loony reason).

Tab jumping might sound useless, but it CAN make certain moves far easier to pull off, so think before you disable it in Brawl.

Ex. With Sheik on Foutain of Dreams, and the enemy is on a platform above you. Without the jump tap, you have to hop, push the control stick direction and A in an instant, however, with tap jumping, you can tap jump, hold the stick up and push A.

Isn't that what the C-Stick is for? lol. Or maybe I misread your post.

What I meant was, the tap jump can be useful:
You can either hop, then attack the enemy above, or hit up on the control stick and hit A just a bit later. Sorry if this is confusing, but in practice, the second method is simpler (Especially useful because Sheik's short hop is, relatively, very difficult to pull off consistently.)
