Would we be open to it? Would we be anticipating as much?

I think we'd be skeptical of this even working and anticipation would be very mixed.

That's an interesting question.

I think we'd still be looking forward to it. There wouldn't be a competitive community yet, just like there wasn't for Melee, so we wouldn't have any hype and likely wouldn't have Smash Boards. But it'd still be the Wii's only real killer app, and there'd still be the Dojo hyping it to the hardcore gamers. And, come on, it's a Nintendo crossover fighting game!

There'd still undoubtedly be a lot of comments about Nintendo trying to dumb down fighting games >_>

I think people would still like it because sonic and mario are in it together, people have been wanting to see them fight for years. Not to mention solid snake is in it. However I think there would be less anticipation for it then there is now

confirmed. Sending supplies.
- Free online play
- Epic cast of memorable characters
- Said cast duking it out
- A bajillion different modes and options
- Familiar stages with fitting music
- Simpler controls than your average fighting game (instead of like 5 button combos for 1 move...)
- Best graphics on the Wii

Yeah, I'd tap that...

I would have the same views as when I heard about SSB64... which was..

"HOLY CRAP!! A FIGHTING GAME WITH NINTENDO CHARACTERS!!??! THATS FUXING AWESOME!!!!"

...really, I think any true Nintendo fan would anticipate this game. they get to fight as there favorite Nintendo characters, which is a fantasy for most fans. of course we would be less excited then we are now, but thats because we don't know we're going to like it, or what to expect from the fighting system; but most fans would welcome it with open arms and legs...

Plus people would be less anal about updates like 'You Must Recover' because they wouldn't have the faintest clue on how the overall mechanics of Smash work.

It would be far more hyped in gamerelated media, that's for sure. I think I would've been quite hyped too, but I think that I would've read the reviews before buying it.

Well it's not, so quit- wait, you're trying to cover up the fact that you don't know about the first two.

That's exactly what my reaction was as a 9 year old, but without the expletives. Melee was released only 2 years after the original, so coming right off of Smash 64, I was extremely excited. Now, 7 years later, we're getting another one, and my excitement is unreal right now. It's probably not at the same level as the original, but it's even higher than what it was with Melee. If this was the first game, I don't think people would be picking it apart and speculating/complaining as much as they are, but they would be extremely excited instead. I wonder how successful the Gamecube would have been without Melee though, because it's the reason why I bought one.

I don't think there would be as much hype and anticipation. It'll be like, "Cool, we got a bunch of Nintendo characters fighting each other. Let's check it out." I don't think the original Smash was supposed to reach this height of popularity...

Think about seeing the original SSB commercial and the excitement that overwhelmed you so long ago. There would be just as much hype as then because we would finnally be able to see which nintendo character whupps the most butt.
