What happened to Smash 4's online tournaments

Dumb question but is the feature gone or am i just being stupid

Honestly, no one who joins a tournament participates in it so everyone just kinda ends up getting 1st place without playing any matches

I remember they announced that it'd be discontinued in like 2016 or something

If I remember correctly it was removed at the same time MiiVerse was taken down. I had a few fun experiences on those tournaments though...

I miss the regular tournaments option where there were legit brackets. The other ones were lame, but those "regular tourneys" as I believe they were called were awesome and I really miss them
