What genre is Brawl?

It's got a tourney mode, so I'm calling it competative.

It's got a Home-run mode, so I'm calling it a Sports game.

Seriously, it's a fighting game and a platformer, but it's still chock full of other things, like Event Matches, Break the Targets, etc.

Lets see, its quite the mix. Fighter, platformer, action, adventure, and a party game. If you think of Samus, its a shooter too. Well, thats something, huh? I'll go for action, though.

If you add Link into the equation, it makes for a really sweet Zelda 2 concept too. ;>

Nintendo consider it an Action game.

That's very true, as it says so on the official site.

Nintendo also uses HELL in an E game, but then edits it out of the same song in a T game. They don't know what they're doing half the time.

That's true as well, but it's called an action game because there is more to it then running around and beating the crap of whatever character you're facing.

there are already several threads on this topic.

anyway....

if this was the first Smash game, everybody would consider it a platformer, then discover it had awesome multiplayer in which you fought. (example 1: is vietiful joe red hot rumble wasnt its own game, just the multiplayer of viewtiful joe, viewtiful joe would still be called a platformer. example 2: halo is a shooter, not a party game. if h3 was the first halo game with a story, it would have been called a party game)

Action isnt a genre, it's basically being called that because if it said Platformer/Fighter it would seem like a random combination.

It's a fun party game, whether or not YOU have friends to invite over.
