Now I know the obvious answer would be a fighting game, but think about it.

With the SSE we can add adventure, action, and platformer.

It also has some RPG elements to adventure mode, and it has a good deal of strategy in its gameplay too.

thoughts?

Masahiro, Sora and Nintendo are marking it down as an action game. So it's an action game as of now and will probably stay like that.

I don't think it actually has RPG elements. It just has an adventure story. "Action" isn't really a genre, and "Platformer" is a subcategory of the Adventure genre.

So the SE Adventure mode is Platformer, and the Multiplayer mode is Fighting. And that's your answer.

are you kidding me? it's obviously a Music game....

seriously though, I would say Platform-Fighter. A fighter, with platforming elements and controls similarities.

A competative fighting game. If anyone says "party game" I will eat you and your parents.

If it was marketed as a competitive fighting game, it would only be marketed at a very small group of individuals and wouldn't have so many options, customizations and etc.

Lets see, its quite the mix. Fighter, platformer, action, adventure, and a party game. If you think of Samus, its a shooter too. Well, thats something, huh? I'll go for action, though.

I've always like the term "platform fighter" myself.

But that's the great thing about Nintendo, few of their games fall into a convenient category.

Fighter.

I know all the elemnts thrown into Brawl, but it's still a fighter. It's not like a fighting game hasn't had a storyline and platforms before.

Every good game has strategy in it's gameplay, that doesn't somehow change it's genre.

It's a fighting game.

let's just call it "variety" or something

it can be a fighting game, it can be a party game, it can be an action game =/

I agree with the person a few posts up. It's in the "Smash Bros" genre.

I'd say it would probably be something like "Fighting, Adventure" since "platformer" is actually a subgenre.

As far as genre goes, it doesn't even matter.

But one thing I will tell you that it's NOT: a button masher.

Any assmonkey that tells you it's a button masher, kick them in the crotch.

I was being sarcastic... kinda.. I really don't know, I just felt like typing something. Nothing personal.
Ha ha, s'ok :p

This is spam so uuhhh...

Yeah, action game sums it up accurately if you don't want to define it as a "fighting" game.

It's a fighting game, just because it doesn't follow the same rules that Street Fighter set down doesn't mean it's not a fighter.

Fighting game...

Super Mario 64 DS, for example, is an adventure game though it has a puzzle section. So you should pay attention to what you're saying! lol
