I have been playing Smash Bros for a while now and I still don't get the concept of "DI" what exactly is it and how do you perform it with Dark Pit and Pit? Thanks in advance!

DI is Directional Influence. Whenever you get hit by a move, DI dictates the direction in which you go and is usually used to keep you alive longer or get out of combos. How you DI is the same with every character but where you should DI changes depending on the trajectory of every move in the entire game and the situation.

DI is a bit complicated to explain and is a really visual concept so here is a video that does a good job at breaking it down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIdyVK1aDtg
There are also a lot of other videos that explain DI so just search it up on youtube to get the gist of it!
