Asking for a friend, in this case the friend left school due to it, and the school didn't do enough to stop it. Is there some sort of action that could be taken?

Depends on the school. Can lead to a criminal investigation if it's serious enough. Best place to start would be the school charter or handbook which usually outlines specific penalties for rule breaking etc.

I mean to be fair no matter if its Sexual or not Harrasment at school is barely punished at all!

in my old nearly all guys school i was known as the Most bullied one even bullys admitted that yet there was barely anything done against that either!
so if its a lighter or less visible case of sexual harrasment like i dont know saying inapropriate things or grabbing the butt or something i dont think anything will be done sadly! Generally Schools only act if something Noticable has happend! (for example verbal bullying is overlooked but if it gets physical there might happen a lot of things!)

Also yeah my English is bad im sorry!

As a teacher, I would need more context. Was it student/student, teacher/student, etc?

That aside, I will say the school is probably doing things to combat the situation. It's just that things aren't always easily noticeable.

It also somewhat depends on what country you're in, or perhaps even the state/region in certain countries (the US springs to mind on that account.) Legislation and other legal matters will likely differ in different countries, so it might be a good idea to look at the leglislature of the country in question.

You teach? Nice what grade / subject. I was an English major but quickly decided against teaching here in Mississippi when during the interview I learned they don't teach "whole books" on the regular but rather excerpts I'm like uhhh thank you for time!

Normally a faculty member will speak to the parents but these days people can be very litigious especially when it involves children. But if hey knock it off doesn't work it could lead all the way to expulsion especially if one is a stalker type.

Middle school age.
Ah. If I had to guess, its due to the age here then.

It's incredibly hard to officially charge a middle schooler with a crime. The school probably can't do much.

Extremely late to the thread, but here is the thing. In lower grades like 7-9 it’s less likely to result in things like suspension and expulsion and more likely to result in phone calls home and being in different classes. Mostly the people there don’t really understand the weight of their words/actions and the schools know that. Once they get into the later years of HS it gets more severe to the point of legal repercussions and expulsions.
