We need a homebrew app

This thread is just one of those "Oohh, somebody else should make THIS really cool program, because I lack the skills!" threads that will probably die soon, just warning you.

I'm sure all of us with desktops wired in one some completely different floor from your wii can say that they don't like the awkward trips back and forth to download the latest Geno stage or the latest version of Zero when you realize that you forgot to take your SD card out of your wii. Nor do they like sifting through dead threads to find the one they want to post in. Or just to find a somewhat interesting PSA character. Not to mention my computer decided to only read my SD card when it feels like it.

Now, we need something. Something that is both convenient and organized and eliminates the need to run back and forth. We need a homebrew app. By that, I mean something like the homebrew browser. That program that allows you to browse through homebrew by category and then downloads what you want straight into the right file locations. We need that, but for smash hacks.

Think about it. It would be the Smash browser or something like that. Simply upload your latest hacks; whether it be a stage hack, a texture hack, a PSA hack, a code, or a model hack; when you go to post it on Smashboards or KC:MM. Then it gets added to the database. You could add descriptions of the hack or additional codes/models that would be recquired to run it and where to find them.

On your wii, the program would connect to the internet to bring you an organized database of all the latest new Smash mods. Organized by PSA hack, Model hack, Custom Stage, Stage texture, Character texture, music, and other codes. Inside those categories they might be organized by character base, stage base, and so on. Then they could show up in alphabetical order or by rating (like the homebrew browser) and you could read descriptions of and download the latest versions, and they would be placed right in the correct files of the SD card and named correctly. How cool would that be?

Now, please DO NOT flame me for just suggesting a program that would take a whole bunch of work, more than alot of other people are willing to put in. I just thought that I might put that out there. It's sort of like self-updating PSA characters, almost. (Wait, that's a good idea.)

What do you think? Would it be possible? Would somebody even be willing to take on such a daunting task?

if people made stuff to meet every individual needs, this world would be full of spam.

I for one have to travel up and down the house to test stuff and browse stuff on the web, that's how we chose to layout ourselves, deal with it. Or go get a laptop if you're that lazy.

Try downloading in bulk and use the existing SD Explorer app to move stuff around, say you want to try multiple PSA hacks for the same character. You could set one up, and put the other ones in there, but with a different name. once you're done trying it, head back to HBC, boot up SD explorer and rename the name so that the game can load that one and do the same with the last.

Geese, sorry for apparently getting you angry. I never said I wasn't willing to walk up and down stairs (I do it all the time living in a 5 floor house, with my wii on the top and my computer on the bottom lol), I was merely putting an idea of mine out there. I was not demanding that somebody create it, either, just suggesting it and putting the idea up for grabs. Don't get angry at the guy who asks for a plane ticket and say that he's too lazy to just bike across the country.

Not to mention there are probably hundreds of people who would use this if it was ever created. It's a convenience, like the homebrew browser and thousands of other products. And who wouldn't like to update PSA characters and download hacks from their couches? :p

Seriously. <_<

Yes. You still have to go back and forth, but its still less work.

That and there would have to be a server to store all the .pac files for textures and PSA characters.

So even if a program was made, there would have to be a host for the hbc app. And it cant be one of those free ones because an app like this would use a **** ton of bandwidth the moment it gets popular.

There would have to be someone uploading textures and files on to the server as well unless someone decided to take the time to create mysql databases and code php and **** to create an uploader for the files and put them in the right place and what not. <_<

What we really need is a windbox application that turns every hitbox in the game into a windbox FOR US.

amirite?

That's why it's called an IDEA. It's just for people to read, consider, flame, and then maybe or maybe not bring into existence later on in life. I understand your obvious angryness, so get somebody to close this thread if you like. Or just don't post and let it die. No need to get pissy.

And for those not getting frustrated or angry, yay you for offering constructive criticism.

By what you've said, compiling every PSA character, BrawlBox edit of stage and character, even ISO changes, and TEXTURES, this would be a phenomenal amount of work. For me at least. =/

Something like this is just another thing someone will either randomly pick up on or not do at all. If you can't bare the *** to get what you want, too bad. PAL users want Brawl+ 5.0, MAC users want PSA and BrawlBox. No one's picked up on doing those.

Not to sound like an *** or anything, but yeah.

i might have sounded angry, but really i was being straight up about it.

Also, comparing 2-5 flights of stairs to travelling long distances is absurd
