he probably had it in his head that he wasn't going to beat hbox
and felt like there was nothing left to learn from playing him
and/or doesn't care to try any more
so he said he forfeited to focus on brawl because that's what he tells himself

basically he's becoming a loser

Yea, basically he set his priorities. Brawl had more money, so he decided not to stress over BOTH games when the melée pay out wasn't worth the worry. A smart move.
