One of the more underappreciated characters whose name occasionaly pops up in discussions on this board (about 5, actually), Vyse is a teenage pirate weilding dual cutlasses. He first appeared in Skies of Arcadia for Dreamcast, which was remade into Skies of Arcadia: Legends for the Gamecube, licensed by Sega, developed by Overworks (merged into Sega WOW).

From Wikipedia:
Vyse: 17 year old boy, Blue Rogue (Air Pirate that only attacks armed vessels larger than their own ships, in particular those of the Valuan Armada). Vyse has a highly upbeat personality and refuses to give up. Vyse fights with twin cutlasses, one primarily used in offence and one for extra defense. Vyse's magic is relatively weak compared to that of Aika and Fina, but his physical attacks are the second strongest in the game (after Drachma's). His super-moves often become a staple in boss battles.

B: Cutlass Fury: Kinda like a mix between Final Cutter and Dancing Blade. see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhN4ZNitvYc

Smash B: (Long-Range Attack): Vyse Swings his sword horizontally, and a flaming crescent shoots out.

UP B: Rain of Swords: Vyse jumps and shoots little electric things down.

Down B: Skull Sheild: The ghost of a dead pirate defends and counterattacks for vyse. Like Marth.

Special: Pirates' Wrath. This is hard to describe. Uh, he sends lightning into one person, and the flies and does some weird slashy stuff. think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRWDw6UDfGM, but a little toned down.

OR

Prophecy: basically, the moon crashes into the stage.

Stage Entrance: Jumps out of a pirate ship.

It's great; he comes with a symbol, some songs, an alternate costume, and victory poses.

Here's another video if you want. its just a slideshow.

Yes, Sonic is a much, MUCh better Sega rep, but I can dream...

Vyse was badass in that game, and I think he would be an excellent character. Skies is such an underappricated game especially for the RPG- starved GC.

Edit: I never beat Vyze so I ended the game with the title "Fallen Pirate". :(

yeah, one time, my rep was so low i wasnt even allowed to fight him.

but anyways, one positive reply is good. anyone else have any thoughts?

honestly, if vyse wasnt so virtually unknown, he might've had half a chance for brawl.

I like the character but im not so excited by your moveset. That game was great, and if you are a Gamecube owning RPG fan you pretty much have to have it cause its one of the only two good ones on it. But still his moves could use some work. Especially the up-b. If he jumps and then rains down with an attack then it would be pretty useless for recovery.

yeah, i know, but i just typed this thing up in a few minutes. you've played the game; what i had in mind was him just jumping up high and swords falling down. it sounded better on paper. if you have something, then by all means, share it.

I would prefer Sonic and Super Monkey Ball guy over him
well, no crap. Sonic is the most logical choice for Sega. but as Supa implied, if sonic/monkeyball guy wasnt there, Vyse would be the next most logical choice (that I know of).

Besides, this is a Vyse thread. not a Sonic or Monkeyball thread.

At least one character from SoAL need to be in Brawl, vyse is the logical choice, but imo I'd rather see Drachma or Vigoro rather then Vyse simply because they don't use swords (Drachma has his mutli-function metal arm thing going on , and Vigor has the giant portable cannon).

Either way, Vyse for Brawl!

Greatest game ever. Sadly, though, as far as sega characters go, Sonic's got the best chance. Too bad, though...I'd love pulling a full power Blue Rogues attack off on someone.

"Blue rogues, attack!"
"I do what I'm paid to."
"Ruff ruff ruff!"
"I never miss!"
"Duuuuh...."*gulp, belch*
"Ba-bammm!"
"Haaah! Yae yae yae!"
"The rejuvinator's ready to go!"
"...a fine blade..."
"You boys look hungry~"
"Now, witness my power!"
*Flashy sound effects and explodies, followed by healing circle*

Annoys me greatly that Prophecy is stronger. And that, further into the game, boss fights become less of an actual fight and more of a "survive until you get full SP for Prophecy".

....bonus points if you can name the character each of those quotes is from.

<_< Yeah, all that's from memory. Prolly got the order screwed up, and posted two different chars that have the same job on the airship and thus couldn't be in the same Blue Rogues attack, but I havn't played through in a few months. >_> One of the best RPGs to date, IMHO.

The great thing is, Vyse isn't the normal sword user. Up until this point, all the sword users have used one double-edged sword. Vyse uses two single-edged swords. Makes him different.

Also:

"Blue rogues, attack!" Vyse
"I do what I'm paid to." Lawrence
"Ruff ruff ruff!" Pow
"I never miss!" Tikitaka
"Duuuuh...."*gulp, belch* Robinson (or don?)
"Ba-bammm!" Izmael
"Haaah! Yae yae yae!" Kirala
"The rejuvinator's ready to go!" Hans
"...a fine blade..." Ryu-kan
"You boys look hungry~" Urala
"Now, witness my power!" Ilchymis

I play this game too much. I need a life.

Lives are for people without internets. There's no such thing as too much SoA:L. Needs a sequel, or perhaps a prequel, though. I wouldn't mind seeing the rains of destruction firsthand, or how the lands ended up in the sky. (Lands of Arcadia?)

If there was a sequel, it better be light-hearted. Nothing to do with the moon people coming back to destroy the world. Maybe some gang of evil pirates running wild. Think about it: no levels (you know they were bad), lots of exploring, wouldn't ruin the mood of the first game by doing the same "destroy the world" thing twice.

I think we all know that. It's just that Vyse is so much more deserving since he's actually a cool character from a cool game. Sonic games are fine, I guess, but they're no Skies.

I never really noticed level problems, actually. As long as you never run from random battles (Which improves your swashbuckling rating, as well as exp), I wouldn't see any real problems with enemy levels vs your own. Random battles go by pretty fast, once you get that 8 starting spirit for Aika's Lamda Burst, too...Usually get that around the end of South Ocean/Ita'xica. Then you upgrade to Omega Psyclone (For me, usually around Yafutoma) and pop the Will robe on Aika and you can pretty much kill most random enemy groups. Most bosses have strategies that you use regardless of level, usually revolving around building up SP for Prophecy.

Sadly, Overworks (the company that developed Skies) folded into Sega WOW, which then was consumed into Sega "prime". By this reasoning, it would stand to reason that Sega would rather choose a more popular franchise than a solo-game character. So Vyse, unfortunately, will be MIA from Brawl. Same goes for a sequel to Skies.

His chances aren't great, but myself personally being a huge Skies fan I'd love to see it. I'd also probably pick Drachma.

Yeah, but seeing as how a Skies rep is extremely unlikely anyways, the spot would have to go to Vyse, being the main character and all.

Also, thank you for using the search feature.

teh rumors!

another SoA2 rumor has happened! prepare for the worst, hope for the best!

This and this!

and when i say 'hope for the best,' I mean an SoA game, not Vyse in Brawl. It's probably too late for him at this point.

I have no clue who this guy is, but Smash Bros is lacking in the Gay Pirate department. Where do the supporters sign up?
Vyse ends up hooking up with two different girls...at the same time.

But I digress. Think Vyse could make it in as a support trophy? I could totally see him blowing everyone across the screen with a Pirate's Wrath.

(And what's this about a Skies sequel? Send me a link, please?)

I would have liked Vyse for Brawl. That would be nice if they included him in, why couldn't they just include both Sonic and Vyse from Sega? Maybe too expensive because perhaps only Snake and Sonic are the only two 3rd party people they'll get.
