Hello people, I've been using Mewtwo since launch in friendlies, however I began using them in tournaments the other day. Only one match was recorded, however it should be apparent that I'm overlooking some options and general errors so any advice is appreciated - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUqCCoxDohM . I ended up coming 9/138.
Your Mewtwo is pretty decent! Great to see another Mewtwo in Aus in tournament. My only advice would be to hold SB just a little bit longer and wait for a moment to hit with it rather than hitting Yoshi's shield. Also, try mixing up your options after you escape egg lay. I find that works well.

I've been neglecting this thread lately, sorry fam!

Real quick lemme post Blue vs. Apple grand finals @ Smash & Clash in PA! That second set was just incredible.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=jpXCZK50wqg

I'mma check out Rich Brown & Feelicks now.

Yo @Feelicks that was a beautiful 2-stock, baby! Really smooth. That ping-pong was tense, I wasn't sure who'd win. Man, I gotta say though, Zelda landed those lightning kicks and I was shocked at how weak they are. This definitely isn't Melee. Anyway, seems to me you were tracking with your opponent really well. I mean, you 2-stocked 'em. Generally, I learn the most from losses, not wins. Wonderful video, though, thanks for posting it.

Looking for a little feedback on this for glory match vs Toon Link:
https://youtu.be/EK60G1T1oLM

I feel like he was really playing safe, and I couldn't really get in to hit him with anything. Any advice on what I should be doing with this matchup?

First off, you are playing extremely impatiently. You are not watching Toon Link to see if the move you are going to use will connect.

Toon Link is very short. That means you can't do rising Fair against him unless he jumps first.

Throwing out an Fsmash for no reason is always a horrible idea. Fsmash is pretty laggy and isn't that strong (Sakurai please buff). If you're trying to read a roll and punish, and you want to use a smash attack, try Dsmash instead, since it has less lag.

Mewtwo can walk and run pretty fast (but so can Toon Link, admittedly); try to roll less and follow your opponent more.

I don't think you reflected a single projectile. You need to make Toon Link think twice about spamming them. Your projectile, fully charged, is better than anything he has.

Spacing. Dtilt has a couple hitboxes. Practice a bit and try to hit the right hitbox to ensure a combo, and learn what can hit small characters and what can't.

Remember to air dodge.

Thought I'd drop some matches from a tournament the other night. Fair warning, after watching them again I played pretty defensively, and there's quite a few things I could have done better as an aggressor. I have a lot of unfamiliarity with match ups and it makes me super nervous because I can die at like 60% to something random (which happens a lot lol.) Matchup footage of Bayo and Corrin if you're interested.

Feel free to leave advice. I have a couple notes for myself but it's always nice hearing an outside perspective.

So, I'll pick through these one at a time.

First off, I hate fighting Yoshi because there are so few decent Yoshis. It's hard to get practice in that matchup. It's also hard for me to give advice because I don't have a rock-solid grasp on Yoshi play.

Confusion can grab Yoshi out of the egg roll attack. Keep that in mind if a Yoshi is trying to pressure your shield with the rollout.

You definitely adapted and started using smart neutral movement in the second half. Props, man. Yoshi has such radical lateral air control... I'm not sure I could think of a better way to fight him than how you zoned him out. Even when he hit you with eggs, he couldn't follow up at all.

New video!

This one is rather technical, but still a good watch...hopefully...

Also, the music is weird because I am doing a little experiment. I will make sure there are sound effects and voices in the next vid. I just didn't want to re-upload the videos. I used a video of just the music from a match so that there will be the same music through ought the same video. But couldn't remove the music from the original videos without removing all sound.

Very fascinating to see the Megaman vs Mewtwo match-up. Both of you were playing very deliberately, and it certainly was a test of patience for both of you. I'm honestly amazed at your performance, here. You did fabulously. Your usage of Shadow Ball and air dodge were on-point, and you did well to reflect what you could and avoid what you could.

It's good that after you got screwed by Leaf Shield the first time, you adapted and found a way to deal with it.

He almost had you with Greninja (I'm believing more each day that it might be one of Mewtwo's worst match-ups, ironically). Even so, you brought that back wonderfully in the second half.

Maybe it's just that I'm tired, but it's hard to point out many flaws in how you handled yourself. I'm quite proud of you.

And **** me your main commentator is absolutely infuriating.

Well, it's clear he wasn't quite sure what to do with Bayonetta per se, but... holy moley, Swoops, your combo game is insane. You're getting away with stuff that I've never even seen Blue or Mew² get away with. Like, be proud, man. That was impressive.

Swoops, can't believe I didn't come across you sooner. Diggin the Mewtwo. I have a question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Raoo_bF8Y 13:55

How did you do the running dtilt? It seems different from the pivot Dtilt. I didn't know mewtwo could do that. Anyone who knows the answer, help appreciated!
Pretty awesome to see you here. Have to say you're one of my inspirations. Your movement with Mewtwo is flawless.

I think I know what he does. It's like d-tilting in the opposite direction OoS except running. To perform that you shield in a direction, then very slighlty press down left/right on the control stick and Mewtwo will turn around while standing and d-tilt in the opposite direction.

This one it's just running into it and possibly pivot d-tilting.

I'm assuming it would be :GCR::GCDL::GCD:+:GCA: I could be totally wrong, but that's how I'd try to execute it anyway. Hope this is of some help! (Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong lol.)

Heres a match me and Metros had a few days ago, I thought it was worth uploading as a good Mewtwo ditto that didnt involve lots of shadow ball camping.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUoJEVx1bSA

Metros is mint, I was blue

One thing I wanted to point out specifically, and why confusion is one of the best moves in the game, is what happens here
https://youtu.be/SUoJEVx1bSA?t=50

Mewtwos ability to float over platforms with confusion allows him to escape frame traps on it (COUGH*ABADANGO*COUGH) extremely effectively. On the other hand, usmash and full charge shadow ball are extremely powerful at trapping peoples landings on platforms. Mewtwos platform game is really strong...

Thanks for the kind words, I'm sure if you were a little less tired you could start spotting the flaws ;). I think my main issues right now are match up knowledge and I tend to get a little too defensive. I'd like to get more aggressive in the beginning of matches, but my conversions aren't really on point yet so I don't always feel it's worth the risk. (For example, I'm pretty sure at mid percents M2 should be able to loop SH NAir, fastfall > utilt > footstool > SB lock > rinse repeat, but it's pretty tough)

Megaman is a pretty interesting match up. I think because I geared more towards patience it worked out really well. Confusion reflects multiple projectiles (ie lemons,) and NAir seems to straight up eat up lemons AND get you in for free if you get the timing right. If you get too crowded by lemons, SHAD to get behind Megaman seems to put him in an unfavorable position, I kinda learned that in the second match on FD and you can see me use it more. Honestly it seems like it might be kind of a tough match up for MM.

Sad to hear your thought on our commentator Dallas (JK Rowling) :(, although I appreciate the critique. A lot of us here in AZ find him absolutely hilarious, BUT we do think he probably has some stuff to work on presentation wise.

RichBrown RichBrown

Yo! Thanks Rich, good stuff to hear especially from you with all the work you're doing in SoCal. Keep it up :). AZ will be over to SoCal before you know it, so I'll be down for more dittos.

@ 13:55 I'm 99.5% sure that was raw foxtrot, perfect pivot DTilt. His raw foxtrot is soooo good.

Lol I was about to say, I ended up muting it.

Swoops, your gameplay is worthy of commentators who have more insight into matches besides "Nice [attack]".

FCSB to eat through Megamans projectiles on landing is just too good. Feels like that alone puts the matchup in Mewtwos favour since MM has god-awful landing options vs it.

I wonder if he thought that mewtwo had a favorable matchup vs sheik, or if he chose mewtwo for a different reason. He actually could have won that if he didn't sd.
He likes to SD as Mewtwo. That is why he lost to SH's Fox.

Nice to see some Scottish rep! :)

Those sets were really good. Particularly how you remained patient when you had to be as opposed to recklessly charging in, and making sure Yaka kept his distance with Shadow Ball. Awesome work, would love to have a match with you some time :D
That ain't me man :p

KillerJawz is a London player, probably one of the best of the UK.

Would anyone care to look into the applications of this for M2?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qjZEgqLbseE&feature=youtu.be
Could be a useful tool when combined with d-tilt/jab OOS (particularly jab because it would allow you to get close and start a string). I sometimes use something similar to power shield an expected dash attack at the start of a match so i can punish with a turn around d-tilt and start a low percent string. Because of M2's big hurtbox it probably can't be used for too long and I find shield health to be important in most MUs.

I am a Mewtwo main and have won and/or placed high in a few tournaments. (Mostly Nor Cal) Moving to Oregon.
I don't have any videos yet of recent tourneys, but do have one of my first streamed Mewtwo matches. (pre-1.1.3) patch. From months back.

I play way different now, but its an ok streamed fight from the early days.

GGWP dude. Hope to see more of you in the future! Is there a YouTube channel for Oregon? I'd love to see what that region's players are like.

Paradise vs Ryo. Another look at the Corrin/Mewtwo MU, for any interested.

EDIT: Also gonna ask here if anybody knows what some great Mewtwo videos and strategies are in 1.1.4 since I asked in the Social Thread to no avail. I know Mewtwo is a secondary to me but I'd like to at least try to get better without just giving up on him. Anybody??

Check out Blue, Mewsquared, Killerjawz and RichBrown. I have a section on that somewhere, though I might have forgotten to put it in the guide. KillerJawz has his own Youtube, and you probably know how to find Blue and Mewsquared. Rich Brown attends Fire and Dice.

I actually am looking for competetive players in Southern Oregon. ( I know north and mid have a lot) so any Tournies in South Oregon would be great to find.

I posted these in the other thread, but here are Mew²'s matches for Winner's Semis, Winner's Finals, Loser's Finals, and Grand Finals. Aside from all the amazing play, the hype, the reads, gimps, and all the rest, it manages to get pretty emotional at the very end. Bravo to Mew² and Will, both.

DKWill has a seriously nasty Donkey Kong. Mew^2 lost to his DK, Blue lost to Vex's DK. What is the DK matchup like for Mewtwo?

Not amazing. It is in Mewtwo's favor except for the whole dying at 50 thing.
Yikes. Sounds rough. I'll be sure to focus more on Donkey Kong in training. DKWill has beaten stellar players for both of my mains :(

Le Troof might have won if only he hadn't slipped up and SD'd.

I usually play the MU very safe. Don't use too many moves that can be Shieldgrabbed until 70% and wall him out as much as possible. With DK, you can go from very defensive to outright offensive in a second. He has a lot of very punishable moves, and Mewtwo in advantaged state is scary.

New vid!

Also, Glitch VODS are up, meaning we get to see Voids top level M2!

PEACE7 PEACE7 The main things I noticed were...

1: You didn't get that many Dtilt combos off

2: You don't really utilize many AT's except for Wave SB. No Phasing, PP, LC.

I would strongly suggest to everyone, to walk with Mewtwo. You have your times when you run, when you jump, but walking gives full use of Dtilt and Utilt, while still moving rather fast.
