Welcome to the official Patch Notes thread for v10.1.0 of Ultimate.


Due to a lack of significant quantifiable balance changes (IE: frame data, minimal knockback angle changes), simply use the Competitive Character Impressions Thread for discussion of this patch (which has been ongoing!) unless evidence of the contrary via unlisted changes arrives. Changes will still be listed below regardless.

What Nintendo's official patch notes terms mean:

  • "Attack speed" - Startup
  • "Power" / "Attack power" - Damage
  • "Attack range" - Hitbox size
  • "Launch distance" - Base knockback (BKB) and/or Knockback growth (KBG)*
  • "Launch angle" - Knockback angle
  • "Undamaged launch distance" - Base knockback (BKB)
  • "Vulnerability" - Endlag / First active frame (FAF)
  • "Vulnerability when Landing" - Landing lag
  • "Landing time" - Aerial auto-cancel window
  • "Time until launched opponents can move" - Hitstun
  • "Hitstun time" - Hitlag
  • "Hitstun Shuffle Distance" - SDI multiplier
  • "Super armor" - Damage-based armor or knockback-based armor
  • "invincibility" - invulnerability frames
  • "Hit detection" - Active frames
  • "Easier to hit multiple times" - Made hits of a multi-hit move link more reliably

*Nintendo does not always specify if both BKB and KBG have been changed or just one of them when using the term "launch distance."

Changes marked in italics are changes that were not mentioned in Nintendo's official patch notes in any capacity.

    • Forward Smash:
      • Made hits link more reliably
      • Decreased SDI multiplier for the first and second hits
  • :ultfox:Fox
    • Forward Air:
      • Made hits link more reliably
      • Increased hitbox size of first to fourth attacks
    • Down Air:
      • Made hits link more reliably
      • Increased hitbox size of all attacks
  • :ultluigi:Luigi
    • Dash Attack: Made hits link more reliably
  • :ultgunner:Mii Gunner
    • Up Throw:
      • Adjusted knockback angle
      • Increased hitbox size of shot fired after the throw
  • :ultolimar:Olimar
    • Up Special:
      • After throwing a Pikmin with a side smash attack or side special, if there are other Pikmin nearby when using up special, an air attack using a Pikmin will occur.
  • :ultpichu:Pichu
    • Forward Smash: Increased hitbox size of final attack
  • :ultrosalina:Rosalina & Luma
    • Forward Air:
      • Made hits link more reliably
      • Decreased hitbox size above skirt hemline, and made it easier to continue with later attacks.
      • Increased hitbox size of final attack
  • :ultsephiroth:Sephiroth
    • The reunion is at hand...
  • :ulttoonlink:Toon Link
    • Up Special: Made hits link more reliably when used in the air
  • :ultyounglink:Young Link
    • Up Special: Made hits link more reliably when used in the air
  • :ultzelda:Zelda
    • Forward Smash:
      • Made hits link more reliably
      • Increased hitbox size of final attack
