The wild ride starts once again!
Welcome to the official Patch Notes thread for v1.2.0 of Ultimate.
This thread is only for cataloguing confirmed changes. For reporting and discussing changes use the patch discussion thread: https://smashboards.com/threads/v1-2-0-patch-discussion-thread.465466/

If there's anything that we might have missed and have evidence of, you can either post it in the Patch Discussion Thread and tag shrooby shrooby or Gunla Gunla , or PM us with direct reports and evidence of unconfirmed changes (that are not in this post or discussed).

Global changes:
  • You can no longer z-drop items out of hitstun.
  • You no longer suffer the x0.85 shorthop aerial damage multiplier when doing shorthop > land > fullhop > aerial.

These are the characters that are noted to have changes in Nintendo's patch notes. (While we are adding changes, the formatting will be weird. Please bear with us.)
Character | Last (PST) | Changes
:ultdk:Donkey Kong | 9:47 PM | No gameplay changes reported.

:ultgreninja:Greninja | 8:34 PM | Fixed a visual glitch with Greninja's screen KO.

:ultisabelle:Isabelle | 9:46 PM | Added invulnerability to the final hit of Final Smash, making it no longer interruptible.
:ultkirby:Kirby | 7:28 PM | After copying Pac-Man's Bonus Fruit, Key will no longer be discarded when it is recycled.
:ultlink:Link | 7:47 PM | Invisible Bomb glitch has been removed (global change in bomb behavior; because Link is most directly affected by this it is listed here).
:ultluigi:Luigi | 4:00 PM | No gameplay changes reported.
:ultolimar:Olimar | 8:11 PM | No gameplay changes reported, suggesting removal of the Pikmin Freeze and Corrin Pin glitches.
:ultpacman:Pac-Man | 6:56 PM | Key will no longer be discarded when it is recycled.
:ulttoonlink:Toon Link | 8:00 AM | Invisible Bomb glitch has been removed (due to the way Toon Link uses bombs, the glitch could not normally be reproduced).
:ultvillager:Villager | 9:47 PM | Added invulnerability to the final hit of Final Smash, making it no longer interruptible.
:ultyounglink:Young Link | 8:00 AM | Invisible Bomb glitch has been removed (due to the way Young Link uses bombs, the glitch could not normally be reproduced).

An update:

As some of you may have noticed, there's much less for this patch as a whole. The majority of catalogued changes are mainly bugfixes, and many character Discords have reported no gameplay differences for a good chunk of the cast. It seems likely that the majority of the changes that are not known at this point are just bugfixes, if not all of them (alternatively, there may be changes to less competitively oriented features like final smashes or visuals that we're not aware of at this time).

Because a handful of these changes do affect gameplay (namely Pac-Man & Z-dropping out of hitstun), it is likely Nintendo just classified these as balance changes. We will still be attempting to figure out what has changed regarding fighters, but just be aware that it may be slower because some of these characters were not known to have major bugs or issues with their programming.

It's not terribly surprising given the recency of the patch compared to launch, but ultimately we're happy that this is more of a first run as we adjust back into doing these routine cycles (it's been some time since 1.1.6 Wii U!), and we look forward to working with you all in the future.
