Using N64 Controller for Melee

Hi, I've been playing SSB on the N64 for maybe the past 10 years or so, but a couple friends of mine started playing SSBM again (Emulator).

I'm wondering if I can use my N64 (plugged into my USB slot) to play with them. I'm extremely comfortable with the N64 controller. I've even rebound the R on the gamecube controller to the Z on the N64 (So L-cancel is just like Z-canceling). This is also how I've been wavedashing.

I'm mostly worried about the fact that the L and R buttons are analog as well as normal buttons on the gamecube controllers. N64 controllers don't have that, they're just buttons.

Would I be at any great disadvantage? I am so much more able on the N64 controller, and relearning the gamecube controller again is a bit frustrating.

Any thoughts? Has anyone tried it?

you kind of lose out on c stick input since you need atleast one of those buttons to jump. you lose a shield button which personally i use both, 1 to shield and 1 to wavedash out of shield, and personally i think gcc analog is miles better. it is probably better to just use gamecube controller, when i play normal smash it isnt very hard for me to switch between the two controllers as the layout is still very similar
