Disappointed with certain characters’ movesets in Smash Ultimate? Then this thread’s the one one for you! Only two rules:

1. It can only be a pre-Ultimate fighter and their respective Echo (so none of Ultimate’s unique base game or DLC newcomers)
2. Avoid changing a character to the point of making a new one (meaning you can add new moves, but the character must at least remain somewhat intact)

Here we go!

Kirby
Air Forward+A: Giant Swing; Kirby does a front flip with his hammer (16%, OK knockback)
Air Up+A: Kirby sparkles with his Beam staff (13%, OK knockback)
Air Down+A: Beam Blast; Kirby points diagonally downwards while firing his Beam (14%, OK knockback)

Dash Attack: Wheel Dash; Kirby turns into a wheel and skids forwards at high speeds (9%, OK knockback)

Changed Smash Moves
Forward+A: Hammer Flip; Kirby’s old Side B (27%, medium knockback)
Up+A: Gazer Spiral; Kirby extends his yo-yo to make him go upwards (22%, medium knockback)
Down+A: Spark Attack; Kirby emits a plasma dome all around himself that can protect him from attacks (24%, medium knockback)

Changed Special Moves
B + Forwards : Burning; Kirby’s old dash attack (14%, OK knockback)
B + Down : Stone/Heavy Stone; Kirby can charge his Stone ability to grow in size and meteor smash targets (30%, far knockback)

Changed Final Smash: Robobot Drill; Kirby’s Robobot Armor dashes into the background, hitting up to four targets at a time (9%). The targets are then taken into a cutscene where the Robobot’s right arm turns into a drill, piercing the four targets on a meteor (55%, devastating knockback)

Victory Music: A more modern version of the Kirby series victory theme; same goes for King Dedede

Dark Samus
Jab: The first part is the same as Samus’s, but is then followed up by a flurry of bullets (3%-4% each, small knockback)

Air Back + A: Dark Samus fires Phazon bullets behind her (11%, OK knockback)

Updated Smash Moves
Forward+A: A Phazon tentacle sprouts out of Dark Samus’s chest and stabs the target (21%, medium knockback)
Down+A: Dark Samus slams her arm cannon onto the ground, and tentacles sprout out around her (19%, medium knockback); taken from Dark Samus’s Assist Trophy from Smash 4.

Grab: Samus’s grab, but with a Phazon tentacle.
Pummel: Dark Samus electrocutes the grabbed target (1%-2.3%)
Down+Throw: Dark Samus splits into two, and they both shoot the target with their arm cannons (14%, OK knockback)

Changed Special Moves
B : Phazon Charge Shot; the first stage is identical to Samus’s Charge Shot. However, the full charge has Dark Samus shoot three energy orbs above her, and they all float around the stage and explode on contact (10% each, OK knockback)
B + Forwards : Turbo Missile; one of Samus’s custom moves from Smash 4 (6% homing, small knockback; 11% super, OK knockback)
B + Up : Screw Rush; one of Samus’s custom moves from Smash 4 (16%, OK knockback)
B + Down : Phazon Bomb; Dark Samus splits into two, and the fake one explodes on contact, drenching unfortunate targets in Phazon (8%, small knockback)

Final Smash: Metroid Prime; Dark Samus takes the form of a Phazon tentacle monster that grabs two targets at a time. She coats the grabbed enemies in Phazon (50%) and slams them on the ground, afflicting any targets that weren’t grabbed (16%, devastating knockback for the grabbed ones; 20%, medium knockback for the stragglers)

Gimmick: Phazon; works similar to the Inklings’ Ink mechanic. But instead of dealing more and more damage with each attack, the damage slowly rises whenever a fighter is coated with Phazon. This mechanic is permanent on Dark Samus’s allies in her Classic Mode, which is all the more reason to protect them; if they get K.O.’d, your maximum difficulty raise is chopped in half.

One Person that I feel like deserves it for me is Sonic. He has no modern moves though they do deserve some love too.

His Normal moves/ Smash attacks are fine
Air Attacks:
Fair : It should be like SSF2 where it spikes or be used as a combo tool

Down Air: Stomp (Gens) kinda similar to what he has now, but it looks more like it

Specials

Mostly the Side special: The Boost from the modern games: It's empty at first, but you have to attack the opponent in order to refill it. It doesn't have high knockback and it's mostly used for Avoiding attacks and a recovery tool. If it's empty it'll do an failure animation

Taunts: BRING BACK BRAWLS TAUNTS ;w;

Victory Theme: Idc really the one we have is alright

Just give Mario his hammer, please :v
Maybe in his forward smash and foward air, similar to the icies.

Also, give Ness the "victory sign" pose he does whenever he gets photographed (Taunt or Victory animation) and give Lucas the Osohe Dance like in project M (you know the one), that's all i really ask for... oh and give them their old victory theme back, the new one is poopoo.

Sonic:

Design changed to Classic. Sonic is now silent, but makes sounds from the Classic games. Due to his design being Classic he's harder to hit but has shorter range.

Nair now has Insta-Shield aesthetics.

Side B is a modern element, the Boost - works similar to how it does in the Boost era games, with a charging meter. Doesn't have as much maximum charge as the source material through.

Homing Attack is instant and Sonic strikes a pose at the end.

Down B becomes the Drop Dash in the air. The Spin Dash functions like the Spin Charge (Sonic's canon Down B), while the Drop Dash functions more like the Spin Dash (Sonic's canon Side B)

Fair is the same as PM and now has fire aesthetics. Bair has been changed to resemble his canon Fair and also has fire aesthetics, Uair has electric and Dair has water.

Victory jingle changed to the one from Sonic 1/2

Dtilt is the removed half of his Smash 3DS/Wii U dash attack and can be done out of a dash without pressing a button by simply holding down

Alts are completely redone

Intro now has him pop up from the Classic Sonic crest

His running to thumbs-up taunt now has him run past a signpost

Breakdancing taunt is changed to his victory animation from Sonic Mania, through the breakdancing victory screen stays.

Dr. Mario
Redesign: Dr. Mario now wears his coat on his waist, with both sleeves tied together.

Forward+A: Dr. Mario sticks his stethoscope out, with electricity coming out of it (7%, small knockback)

Air+A: Dr. Mario briefly spins bandages around him (9%, OK knockback)

Air Back + A: Dr. Mario spills a potion behind him (11%, OK knockback)

Air Up + A: Spray Medicine; Dr. Mario holds a potion above him that sprays like a fountain (13%, OK knockback)

Dash Attack: Clipboard Bash; Dr. Mario skids forwards and uses a giant clipboard as a shield that knocks back targets and reduces projectile damage (12%, OK knockback)

Smash Moves

Forward+A: Dr. Mario’s old Side B, but now it electrocutes targets (17%, OK knockback) and nullifies projectiles instead of reflecting them.

Grab: Dr. Mario traps the target in a capsule; most throws have the capsule shoot out the target like a cannon.

Pummel: The capsule squeezes the target (1%)

Forwards+Throw: The capsule shoots the target forward (10%, OK knockback)

Down+Throw: Dr. Mario tips over the capsule by mistake, and it explodes (17%, OK knockback; .8% recoil)

Back+Throw: The capsule shoots the target behind Dr. Mario (10%, OK knockback

Up+Throw: The capsule shoots the opponent upwards (11%, OK knockback)

Special Moves

B : Pill Bopper; pressing B normally has this function just like Mario’s Fireball, but with the Megavitamins. However, charging B has Dr. Mario throw out 3 Megavitamins at once (6% each, small knockback)

B + Forwards : Science Lab; Dr. Mario throws one of four potions

  • -Fever; Explodes in a huge area upon contact (19%, medium knockback) and leaves a small area in flames that can damage fighters, even Dr. Mario
  • -Chill; Freezes targets upon contact (15%, OK knockback) and leaves a slippery, icy trail on the floor if it misses a target
  • -Spark; Leaves a medium orb of electricity for 3 seconds that hits multiple times (20%, medium knockback)
  • -Weird; Inflicts a random negative effect on the target (reverse controls, bury, turn Tiny, reduce stats, etc.)
B + Up : Ol’ One-Two; one of Dr. Mario’s custom moves from Smash 4; less powerful, but has about as much height as the Super Jump custom (13%, OK knockback)

B + Down : Bandage Spin; a variation of the Dr. Tornado where Dr. Mario stays in place, even in midair, spinning with bandages around him that reduce damage taken from projectiles (16%, OK knockback)

Final Smash: Virus Buster; Dr. Mario sends out an army of Mii doctors that run straight forward, hitting up to seven targets at a time (7%). The trapped targets are then taken into a cutscene where they are stacked on piles of Viruses in a Dr. Mario game, and the Mii doctors throw Megavitamins onto the board and eliminate the Viruses, along with the fighters (61%, devastating knockback)

New Taunts:

-Dr. Mario spins around and punches the air

-Dr. Mario pulls on his sleeves

New Victory Poses

-Dr. Mario spins around a few times, and then raises his fist in the air

-Dr. Mario wipes his hands off, and then pulls out Megavitamins (this is an existing victory pose, but the part where Dr. Mario throws Megavitamins is cut out)

Retained from the two:

-Dr. Mario rolls a Megavitamin on his shoulder and catches it (Taunt)

-Dr. Mario thrusts his stethoscope multiple times (Victory Pose)

Victory Music: An orchestral version of the Dr. Mario victory theme

Kirby Hat: The Doctor Kirby outfit from Planet Robobot

Ganondorf:

This video explains it all.

K. Rool:

I would adjust his Blunderbuss to shoot spike and reverse smoke balls like how it does in his DKC2 boss fight. Pressing down, up, or right, right when you activate the Blunderbuss will give you the normal ball, spike ball, or reverse smoke ball.

Banjo & Kazooie:

Change the Neutral Special in where instead of shooting just normal eggs it can shoot all the different egg types from Tooie. You would see a Monado Arts type menu in where you get to choose which egg type you want before shooting.

Neutral B: Peanut Popgun Barrage.
Instead of shooting just with one, Diddy now uses both guns and fires a ton of peanuts in front of him. Damage is higher the closer you are to your opponent. Easily traps enemies in, and does relatively high damage.

Up B: Rocket Barrel Jet
Works more like R.O.B.'s, you're also able to cancel this into an aerial attack. When attacked, the barrel still crashes but Diddy can make an escape from it by jumping from it on time. You can use neutral B while doing this attack as well.

:ultdk:

Side B: Barrel Trap
DK traps his opponents in a barrel. Is able to throw the barrel as a projectile as well. If there's no opponent around, DK just spawns a barrel on the stage. Can not be spammed.

:ultyoshi:

Neutral B: Egg Lay
Same as before, but can now also eat up items like Wario can with Neutral B, and is also able to create egg projectiles with this, which Yoshi will hold in his hand as a throwable item. Yoshi can eat most non energy projectiles, and spawn items and make eggs out of them.

:ultcharizard:

Up B: Fly
Same as before but way higher launch distance, and allows Charizard to actually fly for a period of time. While flying, you can use aerial attacks, and also Neutral B and Side B, and even grabs that allow Charizard to use Seismic Toss, basically exactly the animation of U Throw, but with added power based on how high you fly. You can cancel this into jumps as well.

Neutral B: Flamethrower
The same, but stronger, more damage on full strength, and even shield breaking properties. Deals double the damage it does now. Also, when Charizard has high Rage, does even more damage.

Side B: Dragon Rush / Flare Blitz
The regular attack is Dragon Rush, but when pressing B again, it becomes Flare Blitz.

:ultmewtwo:

Down B: Barrier
Mewtwo creates a Barrier in front of him that's giving him extra armour on his attacks. It's like Palutena's reflect shield, but more for physical attacks and moves with Mewtwo. Can't be spammed. On full strength, it withstands 30% damage. Mewtwo's weight also increases a little when the Barrier is up.

Side B: Psychic
Confusion, but powered up into an actual command grab. Double the range of Confusion, Mewtwo grabs the opponent with psychic energy, and is able to throw them at double the strength of regular throws. Also reflects projectiles like Confusion did. You can also throw your enemies into each other. Can be used in the air as well for aerial throws.

Extra mid-air jumps or hovering
Either Ridley has five jumps total like Kirby, Jigglypuff, Meta Knight, and King Dedede, or Ridley should be able to hover like Peach. During this animation, Ridley's wings will flap to match a realistic appearance of a flying organism, such as a bird or bat.

Plasma Breath
Holding the B button isn't required. All that is required is that when the player wants to release Plasma Breath as it currently appears, the player only needs to tap the B button again. The B button can be fully charged, and when fully charged, Ridley will be able to launch a plasma ball about the size of Kafrizz.

Space Pirate Rush
This ability should allow Ridley to become intangible. He can have the appearance of side-stepping any oncoming attack, including projectiles that fully automatic. I feel Ridley has a bit too much cool down and unless he's going to drop like Captain Falcon when he misses, I don't see any reason for Ridley to appear confused for missing.

Down aerial
Ridley's d-air doesn't cause any earthquake or produce any shock wave. I think this should be added.

Skewer
This attack is practically useless. I think the hitbox at the tip should be increased. I also think that the tail should have an active hitbox overall. When Ridley performs this attack in the air, it should mimic is tail whip attack as seen in the Metroid series. When he's on the ground, his tail should drive into the ground and come out of the ground to strike the nearest target. Its ability to connect would be independent of the player's aiming skill like Palutena's Autoreticle. It could even strike an opponent who's hanging on the ledge.

Continued...

:ultmewtwo:

F Tilt : Psycho Cut
Instead of a tail swipe, Mewtwo swipes his arms forward similary to F Air and it causes a psychic cutting energy similar to a sword attack in front of Mewtwo. This move has good range, and it's good for edgeguarding.

F Air: same attack but now disjointed

His Smash attacks are also now bigger and stronger, and have super armour even.

Grab also has an invisible hit box now, way in front of Mewtwo, giving him a "ghost grab" of sorts, this is because of him being a Psychic. The animation of this grab looks similar to Confusion. It's a ranged grab with a similar speed go regular grabs.

:ultbanjokazooie: - let side B do... something, anything, after you run out of feathers.
:ultpokemontrainer:- change switch pokemon to shield b and allow that to also be used in the air.
:ultcharizard:- bring back rock smash
:ultsquirtle:- give him protect (for a few frames immune to everything, but the more you use it the more likely it is to fail always guaranteed to work the first time though.)
:ultivysaur:- solar beam
:ultdoc:- give him a FS that isn't a reskin of Mario's

Maybe for :ultbanjokazooie:, a weak shoulder charge that travels slightly less distance than Wonderwing?

For the Robins, I don't like how Smash focused so much on magic so that even the sword is a (improperly used) Levin Sword, so I thought up giving them two more swords. It could be random which one they pull, but who wants that? Alternatively, they could give up Nosferatu, which, no big loss.

Anyway, as for what they do:

Levin sword: Made a bit slower, but it gains extra range. Perhaps the forward smash also has a ranged element where it summons lightning at a distance, but the sword itself isn't that strong. Middle of the road durability wise.

Silver sword: The most durable and does more damage than the Levin sword's weak hits. It basically just functions as a normal sword. Maybe even using the bronze up smash.

Brave sword: The most fragile of the three, but it is very fast with very little lag on any move that uses it and side and down smash have two slashes and the up smash is a multihit (maybe with a few more rotations).
