What about in cases where there's stuff to like but the gameplay just doesn't work. Theoretically Dark Souls would have significantly more appeal because it's a game where you can build your character in whatever way you want and venture through a world rich with lore. That first part is highly appealing but if the gameplay is as hard as it is, it becomes frustrating. People want to enjoy something but can't and wish they should, buy buying it anyway it's basically saying "Hey, this is fine"

There's a big difference between

"I'll play on easy mode because I want the experience to be stress free and I want to learn" and "I literally could not give two ****s about the gameplay."

Is usually why I advocate for easy modes. If I don't like the gameplay then usually I do just watch let's plays.
