Hello everyone, as you may know, Aesis recently discovered he was too cool for the U.S. and decided to spend half a year in Italy. In his wake the UCLA tournies were put on hiatus, UNTIL NOW.

AiB Tourney Page: http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=5718

DETAILS
(much of this is straight from the old UCLA thread)

Time:

9:30 - 10:30 Registration/Warm-Ups
10:30 - 11:00 Set up Bracket and Start Doubles. Singles starts when Doubles winds down.
Both tournaments will run at the SAME TIME.

Venue:
Los Angeles Tennis Center Clubhouse (@UCLA)

You might remember this room from before too, it's where the last tourney Aesis hosted was at.

Fees

Brawl Singles - $5
Brawl Doubles - $10 (5 per person)
Melee Singles - $5
Melee Doubles - $10 (5 per person)
Venue Fee - $5

If you bring a complete setup (TV + system + game) you get venue fee and entrance into ONE event waived (haha yea only one this time)

If you bring a TV alone you get venue fee waived. If you bring a system(w/game) alone you get venue fee waived as long as signed up to bring it beforehand. If you didn't sign up, you can still bring your system and if we are able to use it, you'll get venue fee waived.

Pot Distribution

Singles (60%, 30%, 10%)
Doubles (60%, 30%, 10%)

Contact Info

Phone: (510) 364-7519 (after 4pm please)
Email: gooberdude@ucla.edu

The Melee tournament will use [Aesis'] previous UCLA Rules
- You may ban neutrals (FD, PS, DL64, BF, YS, FoD)
- No Wobbling
- Mages' DQ Rule

Tournament Rules

General rules:
3 Stock

8 minute timer

Items are set to "off" and "none"

All sets with the possible exception of winner's finals, loser's finals, and the championship are best of 3 matches (best of 5 and above is recommended for any "finals" matches)

In the event of a dispute, controller ports will be selected by Rock-Paper-Scissors

No player may choose a stage they have already won on in that set unless agreed upon by both players.

In team matches, the ports will be determined in a 1221 fashion; whoever wins the RPS will choose first, then the opposing team will get their ports, and then the teammate of the RPS winner will get the last port.

If the timer runs out, the victor is determined first by stock and then by percentage.

Metaknight's Infinite Cape glitch is banned.

Dedede's standing infinite is banned.

You are responsible for your own controller and name tag. Any malfunctions or errors that occur are your responsibility, so bring an extra controller if possible and always check to make sure you're using the correct settings BEFORE a match is played. If a match is to be restarted due to controller functions, it must be agreed upon by both parties.

Any action that can prevent the game from continuing (i.e., freezing, disappearing characters, game reset, etc.) will result in a forfeit of that match for the player that initiated the action. You are responsible for knowing your own character, and must be wary about accidentally triggering one of these effects.
Stalling is banned.

Set format (In Order of Procedure):
1. Opponents choose their characters for the first match *
2. Opponents start the stage striking procedure
3. Each player may announce one stage to be banned for counterpicks of the set
4. The first game is played, using the stage chosen during step 2
5. The loser of the previous match announces the next match's stage from either the Starter Stage List or the Counter Stage List
6. The winner of the previous match chooses their character
7. The loser of the previous match chooses their character
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for all proceeding matches
*Double blind character selection may be called for the first match

Awesome, thanks for the help. Tell connor I say sorry haha, this is the only day we could get this quarter. I was hoping since this was a Sunday it wouldn't conflict with anything =/

Venue fee and wobbling rule are BS. Lower the venue fee. change the wobbling rule.
The venue fee is out of my hands (I have two fraternity staffs to deal with lol) and its a $1 dollar increase anyways to cover UCLA's fee increase. Maybe I should've made it clear that this is a fundraiser like the previous tournaments. The wobbling rule is carried over from previous UCLA tournies, but if the majority of melee players want it allowed, we can reconsider.

Also, the date isn't flexible as this is the only day we were able to reserve the room for this quarter. The only "rescheduling" we can do is to postpone another 2-3 months.

This is also the same day as the quiznos tourney. With Connor and Quiznos conflicting with this, its going to be a toss up.

when you say fundraiser, do you mean:

A. Raising money for a charitable cause.
B. Trying to make a profit specifically for your own gain
C. Other (explain please).

no, unban wobbling.
and taking a cut of the pot actually seems like a better idea than a venue fee.

You need to compete with connor's and quizno's to make melee and brawl peeps come, respectively. Otherwise, you're out priced.

for his frat only way they can actually get a venue
saying its a fundraiser
that is the venue fee
im guessing it raised cause the venue is more expensive
the pot always remained unaffected
iono what the frat used the the leftover venue money for tho

Absolutely (B), I am running this tournament specifically for my own gain and all the money will be wired directly to my Cayman Island bank account. In related news the venue fee has been increased and now corresponds to character used. Metaknight/Snake - $1000, everyone else - $999.99.

lol no, the money is going to the fraternities. In the case of my frat (the pre-med one), we use our fundraised money both for our activities (volunteering, health education, gas to get to those places) and we donate money directly to our donation partner, Children's Miracle Network. I'm not the fundraising chair in my frat (just the smash chair lol) so I'm afraid I can't give you a more detailed breakdown, but I'll ask during our next meeting to be sure.

w/e. I'm just saying, that given the choice between an event with a venue fee less than $6 (like Connor's) and this, most would choose the former.

imo people are getting way too worked up over little things. $6 venue fee? is it such a big deal that it's an extra dollar? wobbling banned? guess what, wobbling has been banned at all the other UCLA tournaments, why bring it up now?

I don't know, it's just the principle, you know? $5 is kind of the standard venue fee most people will accept. Anything over that, and the venue had better be freaking amazing in order to justify it. And I 've seen people skip tournaments that they felt were rippoffs because of the venue fee. In short, the community wants to know that you're doing something extra for the community and not just being greedy/ the venue owner isn't just being greedy. This is done to discourage greedy venue owners. But that's just my opinion. :p

How about this, we lower the venue fee back to $5 and take ~5%/10% out of the pots to make up for the UCLA cut? I originally thought taking money out of the pot was worse than raising the venue fee which is why I didn't suggest it, but if you guys rather do it that way, I have no problem. It'll actually probably easier for us since $6 is sort of an odd number and we'd be fumbling for change all the time haha.

It's worse for the people who win. Better for everyone else. Kinda like socialism! :chuckle:

Have you been to any of the UCLA tournies held in the second floor lounge? I went as a player and I thought it was a pretty sweet venue, but maybe that's just me. We are going to have a projector and PA system set up if that changes your mind at all. I don't know what the quiznos venues are like but the one on the 15th seems to be charging $6 too (4 for singles + 2 for doubles) and they're only doing brawl anyways.

lol I can't drive to this anyway, so I'd have to get a ride from someone in SB who also wants to drive to this, thus, you can't count on my presence here, so I'll just kick back and see who else plans to come to this.

Quiznos venue is pretty terrible.

The UCLA ones are legit. Don't take away from the pot. Keep it $6 venue.

ooh unnecessary debate. wobbling is dumb, but you should allow it.
it's funny.

If wobbling is allowed I'm gonna make it my goal to get every one of my kills by wobbling.

EDIT: If at all possible i think this should be moved. Connor and Quizno's has been in the works for a while. Even back 1 week would help everyone out I think. Either that or make it Saturday?

I would definitely move it if I could, the conflicting tournaments thing is unfortunate =/

I don't know for sure but I'm hoping the Quiznos date is more flexible since it seems like they only decided on doing it on the 15th instead of the 22nd two days ago (from the thread on AiB).

might go to this instead of connor's cause

1. connor's is about twice as far
2.
If you bring a complete setup (TV + system + game) you get venue fee and entrance into two events waived

If you bring a TV or system+game alone you get venue fee waived
how hard is it to bring a ****ing cube?
3. ucla venues are much better than a smelly garage, no offense connor
4. food places are right down stairs, whereas at connor's you have to drive or walk really far and then all you can eat is a sucky kfc (not saying all kfc's suck, just this one) or mcdonald's
5. ????
6. Profit!

but yeah, still trying to decide, but probably this one

connor should push his forward to the 16th so we can have two tournies in one weekend like the good ol' days
