I only care about MAIN characters, and I'm gonna name a few I suppot (non-japan) over lousy Lizard ripoffs.

among soooo many others deserve a heck lot better than 3rd rate trash made popular cause of the ignorance of the masses.

Since when being a lead character automatically makes you more deserving than the sidekicks like Falco, Diddy Kong, Midna or the villains like K. Rool or Ganondorf? What a terrible logic, specially when your examples are Chibi Robo, Tamagon and Lolo.

Yeah and he comes from a series that's been represented in Smash since the very beginning, which had a game that wasn't Japan only.

Oh and btw... Sakurai isn't some N64 generation kid like most people here. He's lived longer than even me. And he pointed out not being excited at popular characters at all.-

I studied Sakurai's journal (translated by Pwnagepanda) over and over.

And while Sukapon might not make the cut because of some kinda graphical conflict (beats me why he doesn't look at Rayman for reference), Sakurai DID focus on Takamaru.
What do I have to back HIM up? Well, just a few clues here and there. Like say... the most "popular" sword users becoming ATs (Samurai Goroh and Lyn)

I by no means enjoy their becoming ATs. The only logical way to me of predicting newcomers it to look at the priorities. And so far I've done great. (My biggest prediction was Pokemon Trainer, so I reckon I'm not that off).

I don't think it's any near from being stupid. Chibi Robo is a fresh Nintendo Franchise. Perhaps as small as the Earthbound franchise back in SSB 64. It's only natural it still isn't popular...

Nintendo WILL want to hype other lesser famous games too. Why overrate the overrated?

What makes more sense to you.. Adding up tons of popular characters for the sake of ONE game? Or adding characters from multiple games to advertise THEM instead?

Saleswise.. I'd go with the second choice.

Well if you add too many characters just for the sake of sales, you lose the essence of Brawl. It's there to battle Nintendo's All-Stars and those characters or franchises that have had a significant impact on the company, which is why there is obviously that requirement for 3rd parties to be from Nintendo. The only two characters you desire I would agree with are Takamaru (for nostalgia) and Stafy (due to the fact that his franchise is pretty major in Japan). Actually, the Earthbound argument doesn't work since the Mother series has been around since its first game on the Famicom. I also agree with people on here that some of the major series need their major characters, because they've been more important to Nintendo gaming. It all comes down to what characters you're arguing about.

To comment on an earlier post, I sort of wish Banjo had been added in Melee so they could use that as a way to add him into Brawl.

It's not ridiculous... It's sales. O_o And don't forget all those DS exclusive games..

Japan is crazy about the DS, I heard 1/4 of the Tokyo population owns a DS. So don't be surprised to see characters from DS games making it in over another character from said franchise.

Sakurai already admitted to having problems creating a Balloon Fighter character, so if anything he will be an AT. As much as I would love Mach Rider in, his chances aren't as great as I used to think, though he would be a WTF character to a lot of people. I don't think they'll really advertise American characters from Star Tropics which is a dead franchise, or Elite Beat Agents, which is essentially Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, but the American version. As for third parties, there are plenty of more characters that would make more sense than Cloud, but I understand where your main points/ideas are coming from.

Two days ago, StarTropics was rated as a soon to come VC title, so advertising it could make some sense. And Elite Beat Agents, was so popular (even among Japanese) thay they actually imported it!

I believe Sakurai once stated that he was very interested in Mach Rider... and he went through the trouble of CGIing him into a trophy in Melee.. so I wouldn't rule him out just yet... (specially because he also has a song in SSBM).

Don't forget Balloon Fighter was meant for Melee, but Time constraints killed a LOT of possible newcomers back then... This now, is BRAWL. They've had plenty of time to fix any mechanics issues (With the new havoc engine) and spare time to throw in stuff like spectator mode among others.


Well.. that's my rant for tonight.

Plus, what's the point in promoting a game solely for Japan if it didn't even make a big impact here? Reviving the franchise shouldn't involve wasting a spot in the roster on such a minor character.
