I think the problem lies in plasma. I have heard that melee looks horrible on a plasma screen that's too big and I read here somewhere last year that huge tv's create a very slight command lag between your controller and your character, but I think you should be ok as long as you don't get like a 60-80 inch screen and because Brawl is supporting widescreen. The widescreen issue could be what's wrong with melee

I'd go for around 36-40 inch LCDs, since LCD's are more suited for digital images. Besides, wouldn't you like to say your television has liquid in it, rather than saying your tv has hot gas in it?

P.S: Try to post in the right section next time...

It depends the kind of quality you want. If you want to play it at the typical 4:3 at 480i, then any old CRT tv would work, but if you want to play at widescreen 16:9 at 480p you have to be more careful what you buy. I haven't seen many HDTVs designed with fast paced gaming in mind. If you have to get a HDTV, then a DLP or LCD TV with options to turn off signal conversion and other things that would make the game lag might work, but it wont be nearly as good as a nice monitor.

The best solution for playing the game in widescreen 480p would be a good monitor with low latency (2-3ms). The monitor will also need a component input to get the Wii signal, or you could use something that converts the Wii component signal to one the monitor can handle.

Uggh... You asked about a tv, not for a good fit for Brawl, and you're supposed to discuss BRAWL, not a tv fit for Brawl.
Still can't help, though.

sorry if i upset anyone i seem to upset this guy
I'm not upset, but you put this in the wrong place. Just pointing that out so you don't get (eventually) banned.
Just curious: who is Ryan Drummond?
And also, I rarely get upset... unless you say something like "Mii for Brawl", or " ZOMG Naruto's in Brawl".

I guess you best bet for quality/response time would be a TV with as low response time as possible (4ms or something) with a native resolution of 480p, connected to the Wii via component cables.

Someone may need to correct me on that though, since I don't know a whole lot about TVs
