This weekend, it’s all or nothing with AONGaming’s finest winter event: Scorpius! January 6th marks AON’s foray into a 1-day regional series for Super Smash Bros. Melee, and they’ve set their sights high with a prize pool of $500 and top East Coast talent. Here’s everything you need to know about the must-see Long Island event of the weekend.

Scorpius is directly aiming to prepare its players for the looming Genesis 5. As such, they planned to use UCF. Since it has just been announced that G5 will not be using UCF, it is currently unknown how this will affect Scorpius, but the event page claims that UCF will be the default. Non-standard controllers with no macros, such as the b0xx, will be legal despite the lack of UCF. The event will feature Melee singles, doubles, crews, and an amateur bracket.

Many heavy-hitters will be out in force. Including SSBMRank 2017 inductees Brian “Kaeon” Somaiah, Sloth Esports’ Rosario “Darktooth” Fuschetto, and Cody “iBDW” Schwab, will be in attendance alongside the SSBMRank veterans Anthony “Slox” Detres and Alex “Captain Smuckers” Cottrell. Other notable players include Jake “42nd” Cohen, Leighton “BIG KID” Ivy, and Ben “vortex” Geoghean, notable for taking a set from Weston "Westballz" Dennis 2-0 at The Big House 7. Colin “Legend” Doucet, ranked 97th on the newly published SSBMRank 2017; Andrew “Tranimal” Tran; and a handful of others will be joining the fray from Canada!
