To be honest, when I first saw Lucas, I didn't pay much attention and thought he was Ness. I just assumed since they had ZSS, they could have hatless Ness. I then looked at the name, and had to look him up. I've never gotten a chance to play the Mother/Earthbound games.
On topic:
Favorites: Sonic, Snake, Pit, PT, Diddy
Least Favorite: Zero Suit Samus and Lucas (Never really like Ness either)
So far I have nothing against any of the new characters really. They're all deserving and would seem fun to play as.
Is that why Kojima himself was the one who requested him to be in Smash Bros. since Melee? It's like you're saying Bowser and Samus are similar enough to be in the game. If Snake hadn't been the first third party character announced, I'd've been way more excited about him than I ever was of Sonic (which is REALLY saying something).
Regardless, they're both two of my favorite newcomers, because they've always been two of my favorite game characters (along with Metaknight, since he was always my favorite Kirby character).

im still wondering why people are hating on Ike so much. He's got blue hair, how can you not like that.
Fav: Still has to be pokemon trainer, cant wait to use the final smash, triple finish (SUPER EFFECTIVE!)

Snake: this guy has no right to be in brawl he is a sony icon Simon Belmont would have been a much better choice.
Sonic: Mediocre games and annoying personality is a bad combination.
ZSS: you need an item to play as her nuff said.
Lucas: luigified ness.
PT: generic character very lame.
Metaknight: easy to use and overpowered just like sheik.
King Dedede: three characters from a boring series like kirby is a waste of time.

My Personal Favorites are in order:
SONIC: Because of his shear awsomeness and cool rock music.
PIT: Metaknights new combo rival. He's got a freaking blade that can turn into a bow. (Take that Link.)
POKEMON Trainer: He is three characters in one. Plus he has CHARIZARD.
METAKNIGHT: I loved picking him in kirby air ride, and he's a god of combos.
And sadly I anounce the ones I don't like.
Diddy Kong: My first impression was "about time!" when I first saw him, but then I saw some gameplay vids, and I couldn't like him. He's just not what I expected. (Kong Fist)
Wario: His final smash boosted my hopes on him, but I only don't like him because he's not cool. I'm still going to main him. (I gotta go poty)
DeDeDe: I've never liked dedede, but his appearance in the Dojo raised his overall appeall. He's fat he's strong, he's going to be average. He's going to have the exact same popularity as Ganon had in Melee.
I don't hate any of the newcomers. But I would like to see alot more. BTW the inclusion of Sonic makes me want to race Captain Falcon vs Sonic.

- King Dedede: I've always been a big fan of the Kirby franchise. The King will definately be one of my mains, next to Bowser, of course. *Thumbs Up*
- Lucas: I don't know what it is about him, but his style has a certain appeal that I can't ignore. He's sort of like a combination of Ness and Mewtwo, and I liked both in Melee. *Thumbs Up*
- Pit: He's just a cool character. I'll probably never give him much use, but he looks to be a popular addition to the roster. *Thumbs Up*
Least Favorites (but still cool, none-the-less):
- Snake: I don't care that he's in the game. I think he's a great addition. I'm just not a particularly huge fan of Metal Gear.
- Wario: Pretty much the same as above. While I like his style, he's not the kind of character I'm really interested in.
- Zero Suit Samus: Way to potentially mess up one of the better characters, Sakurai . . . I understand what you were trying to do here, and all I can say is that you're a dirty, dirty man.
Indifferent (or undecided):
- Metaknight: I was really excited to see him make the cut, but after realizing that everyone including my aunt Sally would be playing as him, I've become really apathetic toward his inclusion.
- Sonic: While I loved playing Sonic games back in the long-lost days of yore, his recent endeavors on next-gen consoles have been mediocre at best. The only place Sonic is moving fast is down the toilet.
- Diddy Kong: Nothing much to say here. I'll hardly even notice he's there.
- Pokemon Trainer: This character seems to be really cool, but seeing him in action is definately going to make or break the likelihood of my playing as him. More info is needed.
- Ike: I like heavy-hitting, slower characters, so he might be right up my alley; however, I love Bowser and King Dedede too much to really give him a chance to fill their niche. Again, more info (and some play time) is needed.

i was actually really excited for Wario, i really wanted him in. then they made him Wario Ware Wario and not platformer Wario. that ruined everything for me. =(

Metaknight. Dude, he's just awesome. He looks sweet, his sword looks sweet, and he looks really fun to play as.
Least...has got to be Wario. He looks the least cool, and is well, kind of weird. Not that I don't like weird, Wario is just kind of in his own category...

On topic: My favorite is Ike, I'm going to end up using him a lot, he just looks awesome(ps: we don't know whats happening with him, it was just a demo after all ;p). I like Meta Knight too, pure awesome. I just love everyone ;p.
