Edit: I've based my list from what I've experienced and what I've seen in tournaments. To me Ganon is more likely to win a major tourney than Doc, and I think records show that.

* yes I think Falco is better than Fox now SLIGHTLY in singles for winning a tournament with normal current rules and stage lists.
* I truely believe Doc is better than Ganon because of his down and up throw chain grabbing and amazing gimping and camping vs the remaining character. He has better matchups. I think Mango just sucks against Ganon.

I pretty much base my list off how likely I think these characters are to win major tourneys today.

I think Falco is the best in singles, but the three of them (Fox, Jigglypuff, and Falco) are a hard mix for me to call. I genuinely want to say Sheik is third but I can't really make a good argument other than "she beats low tiers".

It's interesting that everyone apparently thinks Peach > CF, I thought this would be a big point of contention given that Peach hasn't done well in national tournaments for a while. I had CF > Peach but I'd like to hear others' take on this before I put up my list.

For me, it's a mix of matchups and player placings.

I genuinely think she's better against Sheik, Falco, and Jigglypuff. Not sure about Fox. She's worse against Marth, clearly, but nobody plays Marth. She's also worse against Ganon, I think, but the trade is that she almost auto-wins against Ice Climbers. Overall, I think her matchups are more presentable and she has fewer characters she needs to avoid to succeed in a tournament setting, even if campy Fox is gay as balls.

Armada's placings now and Cort's placings near the end of the 07 era (4rth at SCC and *pound* 3) are also more impressive than anything that Falcon has really done in terms of going distance in a big tournament (IMO). Other than Isai eons ago, we haven't really had a Falcon in contention for top 5 in the world (IMO). It's late, though, so if I'm missing someone please tell me.

I think there were 3 Falcons in the top 8 at Genesis weren't there? And SS wasn't one of them. At P4, Armada got 4th, after losing to SS who got 9th, and Hax/Darkrain both got 13th. The next highest Peach after Armada was Vidjo at 25th. These results to me indicate that CF > Peach. Armada alone, despite how good he isn't, can't make up for the lack of Peach's performance below him.

Well Vwins got 13th or 9th at Genesis I think? He's probably another great peach that does well in national tournaments. But I mean he still got outplaced by a few falcons. So I mean Peach better than Falcon as a character or the other way around.. I think it's really really too tight to tell imo.

I disagree that Armada alone's performance can't make as big an impact as you're suggesting... hasn't Chu carried Ice Climbers for like 6 years?

Carrying someone above Ganondorf/Samus/Doc is different than carrying someone above Captain Falcon.

I dont understand how Samus and Doc can be above Ganon. I mean don't the Ganons anywhere outplace all the time both these characters?

A character potential might be there but until I see actual results then that should not matter.

@Kage, I think it's wrong to compare ganon vs Samus/Doc in the way you're doing. You have to consider the fact that the best Ganons are in completely different areas than the best Docs/Samuses. The two never really get to meet to produce telling tournament results.

There was pound, but that was just 1 tournament, and way off the WC home turf, which is always a factor. And there really weren't any docs or samuses worth mentioning at the time of Genesis.

To say that Ganons produce better results is a poor assumption to have, when Samuses and Docs on the WC are beating people like SS, Zhu, Lucky on a weekly basis. Then there's mango, but no one really beats mango, except for Kage those 2 times I guess :/

I'm just choosing my list on personal opinion. I'm not really basing it on tournament performances for the most part. LoL. I think there's too many factors involved in a tournament setting to use results as the end all way of ranking characters on a tier list.

Where he stops trying and caring, so when he loses, everyone makes excuses for him, and he remains at legendary unbeatable status for the rest of his life.

To this day, Isai is still considered to be the best Falcon in the world, jokingly or not, and it's mainly cuz of his retirement strategy LoL

But really, mango is at a level beyond everyone, no one even comes close, not armada/amsah/hbox. No one. And he's getting bored with it all.

LOL I'm glad to see I'm not the only one thinking so.. However I think part of people's admiration is also due to Isai's status of unbeatable in SSB64. He's basically the Mango of SSB64. As a matter of fact I've seen Mango lose more often in Melee than Isai in SSB64, so I guess Mango is the Isai of Melee instead.

Sorry I haven't had the time to tally the results and I probably won't be able to do it this week so I leave it open until next monday or something like this.

In the meantime we should find a solution for the non-viable part. We could leave it as it is now, we could split the category in 2 or more groups and leave characters orderless (well, in alphabetical order) or we could do something different, I don't care.
Just make a proposal if you don't like it the way it is at the moment.

Is there any reason we need to end the tally so soon? I kind of feel like for all the clamoring for a tier list, the discussion has been rather sparse. Anyway, my list is:
