ThunderCats is an American media franchise starting with the 1985 animated series by Japanese studio Pacific Animation Corporation and co-produced by Rankin-Bass Animated Entertainment, currently under the ownership of Warner Bros. The series follows the adventures of a group of cat-like humanoid aliens who fled their doomed homeworld of Thundera and crash-land on the planet of Third Earth, making it their home. The Thundercats must adjust to their new home and it’s inhabitants while opposing the forces of the Mutants under the command of a mummified sorcerer-lich named Mumm-Ra.
Who is Lion-O?
Lion-O is the leader of the Thundercats. Originally a young prince, circumstances upon their retreat from their homeworld caused his body to age to any adult while still retaining the mind of a child. Initially only in charge through nobility, he spends the series maturing into a more responsible leader, taking his role more seriously. The weapon he’s been granted is the legendary mystic Sword of Omens. Embedded in the hilt is the Eye of Thundera, the source of the ThunderCats' power.
Why Lion-O?
Thundercats is a beloved 80’s series with a large following and is well-remembered enough that it has received two remakes/reboots (admittedly on opposite spectrums of critical response). Lion-O himself has many abilities that would led well into creating his moveset and would be a perfect ambassador of 80’s animation for WB. Plus, don’t tell me you don’t wanna fight against WB’s finest with that kickass theme song in the background.
How would Lion-O fight?
Lion-O is a skilled swordfighter with a considerable about of strength. The Sword of Omens is capable of many abilities.
-The blade can extend and retract being in the form of a dagger when resting, and a full-length Longsword form when at full strength and power
-It is highly reflective
-It can shoot blasts of energy with varying abilities and degrees of strength, capable of stunning, electrocuting, blasting through and apart targets/structures with explosive force, and vaporizing various targets.
-allows Lion-O to see across great distances with its power of "Sight Beyond Sight". Perhaps a potential counter ability.
-generating force fields, manipulating temperature to create intense heat or flames, freezing targets in ice, manipulating it’s own energy into constructs, like creating bridges of energy and even pole vaults. It can levitate and fly and do anything you expect a magic weapon from the 80’s can do
-The Eye of Thundera can also call upon the other Thundercats if needed
He also possesses his Claw Shield, a gauntlet that can be used as a shield and can launch grappling lines from its claws.
