thunder going through plateforms

Maybe this is a common knowledge to pika mains, so sorry if this has been asked many times before.
7:52's thunder went through BF's top plateform, is this normal? any in depth mechanic explanation?

Thunder can travel through platforms if they are close enough to the Cloud. If you go onto Battlefield and Thunder under the left/right platforms, you will find Thunder hits the platform. On the top platform Thunder passes through it.

This can also be applied to get people away from the ledge if they are waiting at the ledge for you. Because of the way Thunder travels, you can put yourself under the stage and your opponent and pop a jump Thunder. The Thunder will hit Pikachu and pop you up a bit and the part above the stage will hit your opponent.
