you know them, they are the people who currently play SSB 64, and when brawl comes out they will play SSBM, when you are talking to them about the new features in brawl, they will say things like "SSBM is more balanced" or "i like SSBM way better" even if SSBM is less balanced. i know afew people like this and isnt it annoying as hell??? btw these are the same people that play Counter-Strike 1.6, i mean its like "they released the sequel, so play it"

Just ignore people like that. If you enjoy that game, that's all that matters.

I was looking forward to online with anyone but im kinda pissed off that you cant pick how many people you wanna play with and to pick stock matches with a longer time limit.

I hope when playing with friends, you can pick stock and stuff at least if not online will be really bad and pointless.

People shun sequels for many reasons. I hate the types that just hate a sequel just because its a sequel. I think there are some reasonable concerns around Brawl and how it will stack up but I've got high hopes for it. We'll adapt no matter what. Let people feel how they want. We're close to the release of the game (in NA at least) so let time talk.

I think if a sequel gets to a 3rd + installment, people automatically think it'll be a rushed, disappointment. People mostly get into past games because " the vintage games are cool".

I'll admit, I love to play SSB 64 from time to time for nostalgic purposes, and to play on Saffron city. Melee beats it hands down in terms of play value though.

You shouldn't just move onto the sequel just because it exists. Lets take the Street Fighter series;

Street Fighter 2 plays nothing like Street Fighter 3. You cannot really expect all people to leave Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo for Street Fighter 3 Third Strike just because it is a newer street fighter game. The games are very different and appeal to different tastes... there are still a lot of people who think Street Fighter 2 was better.

The same can be said for a game like Bloody Roar. Even though Bloody Roar 4 is out, there is no reason to give up Bloody Roar Primal Fury just to play 4 because its newer. Sometime the older titles are actually all around better for peoples taste. And to me, Primal Fury was vastly superior to 4. It had better character balance, more unique character, better defense tactics, and an overall deeper system.

Also Sonic Battle is often considered a sequel to Sonic Battle simply because it is a Sonic fighting game. But that doesn't mean I am gonna give up the deeper gameplay in Sonic the Fighters for the shallow and less fun gameplay that is found in Sonic Battle.

If Brawl ends up not being as good as Melee than I will stick to melee. But I don't see that happening ^^;

You don't play the sequel simply because it's there. >_>
This.

Mario Party games are a great example of this. The older games were so much better than the crap they keep spitting out now. There are so many ****ty sequels compared to the originals that your argument has almost no validity.

Yeah, it's good to play a game when it comes out, but if it sucks compared to the game before it, why not go back and play the better game? Never mind that...that might be too smart...

Depends on the game. A lot of people would rather play SF2 over SF3. Or Naruto GNT4 over Naruto GNT EX2.

Some people prefer characters or a style of gameplay from a previous game over the changes done in a sequel.

Repeat: Just because a sequel exists doesn't mean I HAVE to like it.
Logic of this thread is flawed because it assumes all sequels dominate its processors, this is not the case with every game.

Uhm, the point of playing the sequal to the Mario Party series, is because the old games get boring with the same stages and the samemini-games. A new Mario Party means all new stages and all new mini-games, and normaly better graphics, which means there is no real reason to say they suck. If you enjoy playing Mario Party with your freinds, you will enjoy the latest Mario Party game.

Also, anyone who says that they will play Melee instead of Brawl if Brawl is somehow worse is kidding themselves. Everyone is gona play Brawl and so will you, sure you might play Melee every once in a while just like we play Smash 64 every once in a while. Get real lol.

move sequels are a different story, its always that 1 is good, 2 is pretty good still, 3 is significantly worse:

Spiderman
X-Men
The Matrix

to name afew where this is true...

The second Matrix movie is worse than the third.

But I do agree with your view when it comes to Smash Bros. Just because there are no wavedashes and some of the advanced tactics doesn't mean Brawl will be worse than Melee. Those kind of people just can't handle casual players.

Yeah; that's the exact same thing that happens with Zelda games.

You used to get people telling you that you're not a fan of Zelda if you prefer Ocarina of Time to A Link to the Past, but now they say you're not a fan if you prefer Twilight Princess to OoT. Kinda annoying, isn't it?

I think you guys missed the OP's original message. he/she meant that he/she hated people who refuse to play the game for the sole fact that it is a sequal. not because of its playability or quality.

and yes, I hate the fact someone wont give a game a chance just because it is a sequal.

yea, the video game industry is always moving forward, so you have to be open minded and not get too set in your ways. the reason i think this could happen is because people played smash 64 for 2 years before changing to melee, but people have been playing melee for SIX YEARS, so i think for some people they will have a hard time making the switch. and yes of course a ton of people are going to get it that sunday and play it like crasy, i know i will.

They say melee is better cause they don't want to see the fact that they just don't have the money for Wii and Brawl.

or the fact that there is no*cough*wave*cough*dashing*cough**cough*. but I dont think someone would refuse to play the sequal if they cant afford it... and I dont think that anyone would say that for that sole purpose unless they had quite a backing to it, and in the case of brawl and melee, I doubt that would be the case.

I think Brawl will rule compared to Melee. It has many new modes, more quality in older modes, an actually decent adventure mode, new characters, new stages, a stage builder in case you don't like existing stages, more collectables, and online mode.

Now tell me how Melee still rules over Brawl just because Brawl has a character you don't like or because an exploit like wavedash has been removed. (That came from a wavedash user, so don't complain.)

dude i do have the wii but i only think that brawl might not be that good is because of the gameplay
seriously did you ever see any of the e-for-all videos
the game is so flippin' slow compared to melee
and a lot of the music sucks (well it doesn't really suck it just doesn't seem to fit the mood)
the stages suck (i am so sick of all these stages that have stage hazards)
i have to be honest but if they get rid of captain falcon then this game will deffinitely not be as good as melee
whatever though
even with all these faults brawl will still be an awesome game but it will probably never be better or even as good as melee (excpet for graphics)

oh this is kinda random but i just saw ghost rider yesterday and it is really not that good a movie

Brawl isn't Melee 2.0.

I'm glad you shared your opinion on how you felt, but those aren't faults. It's how Sakurai wanted the game to be made. He knows what he is doing.

Chill man, you don't even know that you can't. Sakurai isn't stupid, there's like a 98.6% that you won't be able to play 1 vs 1 stock matches with random people
