*Sniiiiiiiiiiiiiff* Take a wiff of that. Nothing like the smell of more Dojo updates to get ya going. If you remember a while back Sakurai announced that some Melee Stages will be in Brawl and todays update is expanding on that with some screens of old stages with new characters.

<strong>YOSHI’S ISLAND</strong>

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107a-l.jpg" alt="Sadly, it's unlikely you can go in the pipes." />
<!--more-->
Yoshi’s Island is one that many people have mixed feelings. I myself like the stage, except for the steep edge on the right side that you can just walk (or roll) off the edge and die. Anyway, it’s back complete with the spinny hit box things.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107b-l.jpg" alt="You call that a mallet? THIS is a mallet!" />

<strong>THE GREAT FOX</strong>

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107c-l.jpg" alt="On the gooood ship, The Great Fox, it's like a gooood trip to a candy shop..." />

The Great Fox has returned to Corneria and makes this the ships third smash game, it’s first being in Smash 64, though with the background of Sector Z.

As usual it’s a fairly flat stage, just watch out for the Arwings.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107d-l.jpg" alt="Headbutting lasers is not recommended." />

<strong>ONETT</strong>

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107e-l.jpg" alt="Doctor Mario has retired since Melee and now works in the local Drug Store" />

Onett makes a return, which is bound to reignite the Lucas/Ness debate again. Anyway, the town’s trademark buildings are all there, and as usual the speeding cars of the townspeople make a return.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107f-l.jpg" alt="Shame Wario ran into a wall trying to escape." />

<strong>BRINSTAR</strong>

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107g-l.jpg" alt="The new game 'Melting melting magma!'" />

Brinstar is back, bringing the sulphuric smells it’s well known for, along with the acid it’s disliked for. It rises as before so watch out.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107h-l.jpg" alt="Where's Waldo!" />

<strong>RAINBOW RIDE</strong>

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107i-l.jpg" alt="Ironically, you do not ride any rainbows" />

Lastly we have Rainbow Ride, one of the few Scrolling Stages to be used competatively. As per usual, you start on the boat which then sinks, and sends you climbing around the rest of the stage.

<img src="/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/stage21_080107j-l.jpg" alt="Wrong way Kirby....." />

This is already more “retro” stages then were in Melee, and the re’s no hinst as to wether these are all the stages, or if there’s more in store!

I said this before but...

For heaven's sake....Brinstar?? Onett??

He could have picked up the more decent ones, like FD, Fountain of Dreams, Peach's Castle, Great Bay , n64 kirby stage , Yoshi's story. THESE are the ones that need to come back.:dizzy::dizzy:

But Nooooooo, we get Brinstar and freakin Onett! :mad::mad::mad: (I love the music though )

None of the stages are personal faves but what is interesting is where PT stands in Brinstar, seemingly clear of the hazards.

What is it exactly that the Pokemon Trainer in the second Brinstar picture is standing on?

It doesn't look like he's standing on the brain-like thing; it looks too low and more horizontal. But I don't see any corresponding platform in the first Brinstar picture.

Perhaps this might confirm the mobile platform idea? If so, they made it blend in with the stages more than I had expected.

Too lazy to rewrite to I'll paste from the other Melee Stage topic.

I'm suprised he didn't reveal Pokemon Stadium 1, considering we've got #2. It was practically a given yet he reveals these other 5 instead. Just found it odd. Also Corneria and Brinstar are back, again, heh. They're like Smash Staples I guess, except now Metroid gets 2 lava stages... whoopee. :p

Fountain of Dreams better be back, too. >.>

Not the best selection of stages. I think the best stages that were in Melee were stages like Final D, Dreamland, Pokemon Stadium, Yoshi's Story, etc. Still, I like Corneria so I'm glad that's back, but some of these stages like Brinstar, Rainbow "Ride" (even though it's not Ride, it's Cruise), and Onett aren't very good stages at all. Good for nastalgia I guess.

All in all I guess this qualifies as a kinda "big" update so we can't be positive yet, but this still leaves the door open to getting a wave of big updates from now until the release date.

I think it's safe to say this isn't all of the returning stages. Pokemon Stadium (1) is almost certainly returning, and surely some of the fan favorites like Fountain of Dreams will return. Although, in the case of Final Destination, I'm sure that stage will get a facelift similar to Battlefield.

Don't you guys get it... The best stages are BEING REDESIGNED... These were kept the same not because they were the best, but because they were the medium...

Of course we'll get FD, but it will look a whole lot better! These updates are for the stages that look the same.

Rainbow "Ride" (even though it's not Ride, it's Cruise)
Wrong.

It was Rainbow Ride in SM64. The literal translation from japanese to english says Rainbow Cruise, which is why it was called that in melee, but when SM64 came to america, they changed it to Rainbow Ride, probably for the alliteration.

So, actually, Melee was wrong. I noticed it when melee came out, and I'm glad they fixed it.

I never owned Melee, so it's good that I'll be able to try some of these. I bet these stages are much better graphically than their Melee counterparts. I remember Sakurai saying that they tried to keep Hyrule Temple as close as possible to the original, so they must have had to make the stages by scratch again or had to modify them somehow.

Yay! Updates!
I'd rather have seen Fourside return instead of Onett though...
And rather Yoshi's Story instead of Yoshi's Island...
Other than that, I like the choices!

I'm going to try and be a prophet here :p My guess is that every franchise will have one returning stage...
And then I predict there to be some from SSB64 (Please Saffron City! Please!) too!

Anyway, great to see the updates coming back again!

Awesome update! I'm probably the only one that liked Onett. I always liked pausing and use the camera to move around the stage to look around the town, they have everything. XD

Corneria is back too, one of my favorite stages from Melee.

He's got a point.
Though, I don't think all of them will be redesigned, for example, what about Pokemon Stadium I? PSII's design is already given and is practicly the same, yet PSI is not shown in this update, that leaves us with 2 options then, 2 more returning stages updates, or 1 more and PSI is out.

What I think Sakurai is doing is trying to represent as many major games as possible with the Stages. I mean we got...

Battlefield: Super Smash Bros.
Battleship Halberd: Kirby Super Star
Bridge of Eldin: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Brinstar: Metroid/Super Metroid/Metroid: Zero Mission
Castle Siege: Fire Emblem Generic
Corneria: Starfox 64
Delfino Plaza: Super Mario Sunshine
Frigate Orpheon: Metroid Prime
Lylat Cruise: Starfox Assault & Starfox Command
Mario Circuit: Mario Kart
New Pork City: MOTHER 3
Norfair: Metroid/Super Metroid/Metroid: Zero Mission
Onett: Earthbound
Pokémon Stadium 2: Pokémon Generic
PictoChat: Nintendo DS
Rainbow Ride: Super Mario 64
Rumble Falls: Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Shadow Moses Island: Metal Gear Solid
Skyworld: Kid Icarus
Smashville: Animal Crossing
The Summit: Ice Climber
Hyrule Temple: The Legend of Zelda Generic
WarioWare: WarioWare, Inc.
Yoshi's Island (Melee): Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island (Brawl): Yoshi's Island & Yoshi's Island DS

And this could extend to future arenas that could be guessed. Either way, if one of the arenas you liked from the first two games don't appear, you can always try to recreate it in Stage Builder. =D

corneria is back, it was my favorite stage in melee... and we now have 25 stages confirmed for brawl, probably all of them will be starting stages.. since melee had 29 total, i can't wait to see how many brawl will have...

I'm really glad to see Onett back. It was the best stage in Melee atmosphere-wise, I think.

I believe TEmple represents Zelda II...

Anyways, I'm sure there will more past stages. Notice how Sakurai says he already revealed more than one past stage.

FoD will be back. It's from Kirby x"D.

Woah, did you play smash64 at all?
And from what i can tell these stages have had no graphical updates.

I think there will be more. He never said that was it so I assume there will be more. Also, I believe Ness is back now, because they wouldn't torture people's souls by putting up Onett without bringing him back.

Sakurai must really have it in for us... there are a few I'm glad to see back, but why oh why must he return godawful stages like Yoshi's Island and broken stages like Onnett and Temple?
