Things that make melee boring and annoy me

Azen won TG6, and also won 2 MLG events in a row (this is the period I would say qualified Azen as the best, though however brief), unseating Ken for a longer period than any other player until he basically retired and Mango took over. Ken was clearly #1 in the post TG era up until the two MLG events (IIRC New York playoffs &...Orlando? god its been so long). Recipherus up until TG5 as was already mentioned. PC Chris could also be briefly put in the conversation but he never had two national wins in a row. Also M2K would be in the conversation for 2007 but he was also never that consistent. In terms of consistency: Reciph for about a 1-1.5 years> Ken for about 2-2.5 years > (maybe for a few months) Azen > (maybe for about 6 months-1 year) M2K > Mango from early 2008 to present.

An interesting take, but Azen never actually beat Ken during that span, and I think the only one of those that Ken actually lost was TG6. Am I wrong on that?

Given those facts, Ken's stretch of dominance before (including the prior FC and MLG tournaments to TG6) and after (every tournament he attended until MLG New York, right?), I'd be hard pressed to promote Azen to best at that time.

My opinion would be:
beginning to mid-2003: Reciph
early-2003 to mid-2006: Ken
early-2006 to late 2007: PC
mid-2007 to Brawl/Mango: M2K

I'm including some overlap on purpose. I don't think the case for Azen is particularly convincing to me, but it's all opinion. Ken faded late 2006. M2K started winning tournaments in summer 2007, right?

Azen beat Ken at MLG New York. Ken lost the final regular season event (forget which one, but he placed 5th, Azen placed 1st) then he lost the playoffs (losing to Azen, he also placed 7th here). Then he took third at the finals (PC chris 1st/KDJ 2nd).

yea azen was soo inconsistent when it came to showing up for stuff. hiatus'ing kinda takes away from any kind of clear cut dominance. It all becomes speculation and anticipation.

The case is the same with KDJ I feel. He was a phenomenal player and probly the guy who was the single most ahead of his time (b4 mango) but kinda was faltered by long breaks on the mainstream.

lol what has this threads topic become ?

My biggest complaint is that everyone I have friendlied at apex so far has spent the majority of the matches running away and camping. I get so ****ing bored.
Hey, I resent that. I spent the entirety of our matches trying to figure out how to approach you.

...I was making people at APEX cream themselves in friendlies by doing things that *literally* nobody has ever done before. However, I did absolutely none of that stuff in tournament.

The problem is that flashiness < efficiency, so in tournaments I (and others undoubtedly) choose to go with strats that have higher odds of winning despite how ugly they might be. Right now Axe's Pika is probably the most entertaining AND effective thing out there, because he consistently lands beautiful tech-chases that lead into momentum control with platforms, and he actually uses his flashy platform cancels to regain stage position in an intelligent way. Most tricks though are just highly situational gimmicks and 99% of the time something else is more effective.

^Approach first, figure out what you did wrong later. Otherwise you'll just be running away the entire match (like Cactuar said).

Are you referring to me or to Wobbles? I'll assume me, because your post doesn't really apply to Wobbles'.

No, I eventually figured out how to approach, but then he'd change what he was doing and I'd have to figure it out again midmatch. There was no reason for me to run away because my playstyle is generally aggressive. Plus, I play falco. I just wanna hit him so i can combo him. I couldn't really run away because he was controlling space so well.

I don't really do any of my smash learning outside of matches.

Ya, I realize a big part of why I feel like no one approaches me is as a response to my own playstyle, which emphasizes stage control and pressuring people into attacking me when they are at extreme disadvantages.

But you're so cute, who wouldn't want to approach you?

So YOU'RE the problem, Cactuar. Hmmm.

Armada insisted to me that the way he got so good was by playing you. "Cactuar is best," he said.

Mew2King: i am sorry if you think it`s boring to play against me =(.

i don`t wanna be like that because i hate boring matches but playing more aggressive than i do with Peach and still winning it`s impossible.

I still trying to find new things to do in tournaments (i guess i have showed that many times before) and be a player how is fun to play against and a fun player to watch.

It`s hard to doing all at the same time.

And you play more deffens than i do :p

But don`t compare my gamestyle with Hbox that makes me sad :p

Wobbles: Cactuar is best.

armada i know its not your fault obviously i just dont like running and lasering like my 06 strategy was but that seems to be the most effective way against a lot of today's top players. It's the nature of smash I guess *Shrug*. Hbox's style is a lot more boring but as a person I obviously like him a lot so I feel bad when I say that stuff even though it's how I really feel but it is how I feel. Wobbling and repetitive camping just feels so boring to me. I play gay too I just find it boring when others do as well but I guess I'm being a hypocrite

well, you use a move with low range and priority to beat out your opponent's attacks because they're bad at aiming them and you can make them look bad?

it's kinda like racking up damage using only fthrow. best used against jigglypuff players IMO
