What characters' inclusion would surprise you in Brawl?

I think it would be quite difficult but still possible to do so. I mean, we've had really old and classic characters (Ice Climbers, Game+Watch) and now we've got 3rd party characters (Snake, Sonic).

As far as I know, the current character inclusion rules are this:
* They could not have originated in a cartoon/movie/ect
* They have to have appeared on at least one Nintendo counsel
* They can can be 3rd party at latest (ie, no 4th or 5th party)

There's only two ways that I think we'll be truly surprised by a character's inclusion, nowadays:
> A character unique to game play that was created in a movie spin-off video game.
-- For example, in the Emperor's New Grove video game there was a rather annoying kid who consistently popped up as a mini-boss (think Paper Mario's Jr. Troopa). He was very prominent in the game but never appeared in the movie. Theoretically, a character like that could appear, but it's innumerably unlikely.
> A character from an unreleased game
-- Now this would be something I'd like to see. Not only would it be the least expected character ever in a Smash Bros game, but it could be an extremely dynamic promotion. This is especially Brawl was used as the means of the character's announcement.

Heh, that would be a surprise. If the Ancient Minister was an agent for the real leader of them all and he/she/it becomes playable... No one would expect that.

I think the only, and really the 'only' cartoon-originated character that could break the inclusion rules would be Captain N.
Highly unlikely for him to get an appearance but you have your WTF character right there

Mike Jones (from StarTropics) and Stanley the Bugman have some serious WTF-ness as well and I'd be happy to see either of them included. (I actually played StarTropics and Donkey Kong 3 )

Alexandra Roivas... she's obscure yes but she's actually obscure without being WTF... As much as I enjoyed Eternal Dark, she just doesn't have the "WTF" factor...

Ayumi Tachibana is simply WTF for being Japanese schoolgirlish.

Btw, anyone ever played Tetrisphere for the N64? WHEELS!
Wheels or Rocket in Brawl would make my day At least they have more moveset potential than the L-block.

As for 3rd party characters... Pac-Man, even if everyone knows him, is a WTF character...
Final Fantasy's Black Mage or Ninja.
Or, while going back to Namco, Klonoa!

There's plenty of choice for unexpected characters and I'm sure Sakurai will pull some very interesting ones off ^-^ (just look at Ice Climbers, Game & Watch and Pokemon Trainer)

And while having a dedicated fanbase in the SWF community, Geno is pretty WTF to the rest of the people of play Smash Bros, which I'd say increases his chances even more so. (Dedicated hardcore fan support + WTF factor to casual gamers = win)

And of course, Link's Uncle...

Tell you the truth, I've already been surprised by PKMN Trainer and Lucas.

Pokemon Trainer was enough to sate my desire for a surprise (I believe I may have actually said "double-yoo-tee-eff" when I saw his update).

Since then, I basically accept any character as possible (within Sakurai's guidelines, of course).

. . . But I think I may spit-take if I see another third party character. You can't top Sonic.

I think Marina from Mischief Makers would be totally epic. I only knew one other person that had the game. I only got it because I played it at his house and fell in love, before that I had never heard of it. I feel like that would be a major surprise for everyone, especially for the 99% of people who have never hear of her or played Mischief Makers.

ZSS and Pit were shockers for me.

Aside from the blatantly horrible options, I think the most surprising characters are the odd supporting characters. The one that could show up, but would still be very surprising, is Nabarl from FE1/FE3/FE11. He's not an important character to the story, he was a pretty good unit, but the thing that pushes him is being Sakurai's favorite FE character. I believe he said this when someone asked him something about liking Sigurd more than Marth, I'm unsure of how exactly it came up. Ice Climbers was one of his child-hood favorite games, and Dr. Mario was in for his music, I think it's possible.

Marina actually has a decent bit of support on the boards for *some* sort of inclusion at the very least. She certainly does have a bit of a "WTF" Factor in my opinion, and I'd love to see her in game.

I was always pulling for ROB, since I was a fan before even MKDS came out (I still have a physical ROB for NES).
