Yes, it was extremely difficult to figure out "FAIR TO FAIR" with Marth and "UAIR TO UAIR" with Falcon and "ANYTHING TO ANYTHING" with Sheik, pal. These are simple things that link. Nothing links in Brawl. This isn't rocket science.

It is immediately apparent that things don't work that should.
Scar, my falcon brother, can I ask you to stop condemning Brawl for awhile? I promise you I will find something in this game so that I can do sexy combos from 0 to death. I have the power of a TRUE hero and I CANNOT be stopped. Believe in me Scar :)

Have you seen the ancient vids, oh newcomer to the competitive scene? Stuff like Azen vs Anden from ye days of olde shows little in terms of combos. Compared to them, M2K is relatively new, and he still invented many combos. This is only going off of Melee. I know that GG combos didn't just appear to people in visions and then just suddenly work.

It's apparent that Melee combos don't work in Brawl, and that's about it.

I'm not reading WoT plank, but dashdancing is in. I use it constantly, and just because you can't tech chase, doesn't mean it's not useful.
Until people stop saying things like this, I will keep being an ***. Brawl is fine, whatever, dashdancing is not useful in the same way it was in Melee, it is in fact less useful. Comparing things in Brawl to Melee and implying that things are in fact equally competitive hurts my heart, my eyes, and my brain. I will continue to call out and strike at such posts.

Edit: And as I was typing, another such post has presented itself.

It's apparent that Melee combos don't work in Brawl, and that's about it.
First off, yes people are still inventing new combos in Melee but there was always a strong combo base, since I played as like a complete scrub and didn't know how to L-Cancel. I could still stomp people with Ganon and then stomp them again when they were in stun.

In Brawl, Ganon is even slower right? It's even harder to get a hit. But if I miraculously DO stomp someone with him, guess what happens? I GET HIT. I get hit out of my own move which is ridiculously powerful and hard to hit with. THAT IS STUPID, sir. That is stupid.

falcons over-b. obvious juggle starter does not lead to combos because of the new floatier physics
EXACTLY. An obvious juggle starter, something whose sole purpose should be to lead into ANYTHING!!! It doesn't do anything at any %. Wtf.

And Spam I will not stop because...

I still think I have to agree with Scar.
Pretty much.

New Metagame.

LOL. New dashdance is useless.

No long MvC2 style combos.

All about 2-3 hit combos now. Get used to it.

Game engine prevents long combos. Oh well.

BTW I like Brawl. Ike and Marth yaoi FTW. lol. j/k j/k.

Anyway, characters with good canned strings will beast. *looks at Ike and Marth.

But yeah limiting the combo system wasn't a good move competitively. Almost as dumb as inputting random tripping. Good **** Sakurai.

****ing moron.

Why can't you tech chase? Predict where they will go and punish. Simple, no?

Also I can undertand why people may say that melee lacked depth in some areas. Take spacing for example and the "depth" of approaching.

When playing Marth spacing isn't too much of an issue simply because of how easy it is to adjust thanks to wavedashing, retreating aerials, and his long dash dance. So I don't have to commit myself to an action since as soon as I land or rush I can continue to control alot of space and not worry too much about getting punished. I have alot of freedom. This adds depth, but negates it as well cuz it regulates approaching to nothing more then just sapmming safe shuffles and dash dancing. Melee rewards reaction/prediction and abusing safe moves. Not so much knowing the basics of fighting games like footsies, spacing, zoning, etc.

In brawl spacing is everything and you also have to know which of your attacks are good for what situation. Mobility is reduced so you have to alwyas stya on your toes and be aware of whatever limited options you may have to adjust spacing.

BTW I think Melee is superior to Brawl competitively. Just thought I would reiterate.

But Brawl is cool.

hey

dmbrandon

when everyone else gets brawl and ur back to being a nobody again (not trying to say you're a somebody now, don't flatter yourself) are you going to fall back into obscurity or keep posting?
lolz@you plank. If you're gonna talk crap, perhaps you should win a few tourns, ya?

And what other games are you even close to competitive at? I don't even remember talking to you. You're just upset that you played melee so long, and now that is going to end.

I don't see why you'd be mad though, considering (from what I've heard) you suck at melee too!

Scar is right to hate on Brawl. And until I see something to the change my mind, I'll join in the hating.

Melee is so much fun because it enables players to freely infuse their own style into the character they play with.

Taking out L-cancelling, and increasing knockback on moves, removing hitstuns, making it impossible to edgeguard, ridiculously floaty physics: these are things that the creators of Brawl purposefully put in to limit the players from making another novice-to-pro gap. They obviously don't WANT people comboing other players.

Have fun with the linear world of Brawl. Please come back to Melee when you get bored.

Spam, notice I have nothing to say to Marcel. He's right, I mean these things are all true. I have to get used to 2 and 3 hit combos if I want to play Brawl. The game engine really doesn't allow for long awesome combos.

Marcel, I agree. Sucks to be a Falcon main but Brawl is a cool game in its own rights. I just hoped that Brawl would have worked harder on Melee's strengths, and maybe even gotten rid of those safe approaches that are spammable and silly.

I live in MD/VA with chillin/azen/chu so it's hard to win tournaments, but i've won like four.

Also, I've only played melee since early 06, so it really hasn't been that long.

Also, I was on the USA national team in starcraft.

Get buttraped.

DAAAAMN. Couldn't have said it better myself. Except I did say all that already, but who's counting.

The other thing is that HONESTLY I don't want to fight over Melee vs Brawl, it feels like I'm arguing casual vs competitive with you guys. Spammer, Inui, DM, realize that you guys are all sort of like arguing with me while everyone else in the Smash world is saying, "Well wait, what's wrong with what Scar's saying?"

I'm not saying anything unfair, only stating facts.

Spam is hoping that eventually he learns how to combo in Brawl, to which I respond (a) there's no guarantee and (b) you shouldn't have to learn how to do simple combos.

Inui is saying Velocity isn't good (wtf??) and that Melee used to lack combos, to which SlikVik brilliantly pointed out that Falcon's fB SHOULD combo, and obvious things like throw>moves don't work in Brawl.

DM isn't really saying anything besides "I play other fighting games and Brawl is cool." To which Plank ripped on him.

Let's not fight, you guys just admit that you are all wrong.

You CAN combo in brawl, and it can go past "2-3 hits". It isn't like the **** in scars vid but you can definately do some decent cool ****.

Seriously, I don't know how to describe it unless you play not to sound like dmbrandon or anything. Edgeguarding isn't so much on stage anymore which hurts some characters I guess but meh.

But again I don't see why you can't just play melee anyway regardless of what happens to brawl -_-.

If you don't like it that much then don;t play it. Worst comes to worst people get bored and play melee again. I am not gonna lie melee is obviously deeper than brawl at this point and it will probably stay that way and maybe it won't but I just have fun with the game so I am not gonna go on some dumb rant on how it takes more thinking to play brawl or w/e.

Bottom line is while Scar makes some good points and I can see where he is coming from, I just disagree with him because I played the game and have fun with it, and I think it can still become competitive. I don't have a solid opinion on melee vs brawl and won't until the future but I think it is a little presumptuous to say brawl flat out has little to no potential when its not even out in America yet.

I love that it's taken this long to come up. Certainly! I will play Brawl to have fun SINCE IT IS FUN!!! But if I want to really enjoy myself I'm going to play Melee. And that's fine by me.

Also, you really can't combo in Brawl. Whatever combo you think works, try to do it vs a level 9 computer. You can't. If you can then put it online and I'll play whatever character you were and do that combo over and over in competitive play.

Whenever I think of Guilty Gear it makes me angry about Brawl TBH.

In Guilty Gear when glitches are found and players let the developers know about, you know what they do.

They tweak the glitch and then put it in the manual. They talk to pro player son how to make the next game better. They remove broken combos and tweak them so they are less broken, but they don't remove the ****ing combo.

Oh, yeah and they know how to balance their games.

The worst match-up in Guilty Gear is 60/40. Even a god-like vampire (Slayer) can be put against the ropes by a former crack head ninja (Chipp)

That game is art. It is perfection. The culmination of old school fighting game concepts like spacing and poking as well as new school ones like Instant air dash rush downs. Not to mention the combos are insane and EVERYONE has good combos in Guilty Gear.

So when I see brawl and instantly recognize the metagame as more traditional, I look over at Guilty Gear and say to myself.

Holy ****ing **** Guilty Gear ***** Brawl in the *** with no condom and gives it AIDS.

I like Brawl. But I will not delude myself. As a smash game Melee puts it away. As a traditional fighter it can't compete with the likes of Guilty Gear or Third Strike.

Looks fun, but I'm not brainwashed.

I don't have brawl so I can't unfortunately yet, but you really have it? If you're dissatisfied i'll gladly have it :p.

I only felt a need to respond because for some reason I felt grouped in with the "mindless brawl groupies" and felt a bit offended, lol.

Also I think I said that before but w/e lol.

EDIT: What EL said is why I think nintendo should stop being ignorant of the competitive community since it seems to also be why marth is ridiculous yet again >_>. If they tweak moves and physics and such then noone else really cares anyway since casual players just go yay new smash but competitive players are (obviously) more passionate about the subject.

Is this all true? That's incredible.

Honestly, we all know that everyone at Nintendo and HAL labs sat there and said... "Now how do we remove this wavedash? And this L-Cancelling... we cant people to be able to sheild quickly after aerials, but this is just something people can use to give them an advantage... and what is this running back and forth? Also, tapping A rapidly is too difficult. Just hold it now."

Lol, learn to play Brawl Ganondorf, dude.

He can d-air you as he's moving up, land without lag, and then hit you with an aerial. OHSNAPZ A TWO HIT COMBO FOR HUGE DAMAGE JUST LIKE IN MELEE. He can even do double down airs with no lag in Brawl. Aerial moves cancel earlier in Brawl, which makes up for the lack of l-cancels. Keep that in mind, good sir, and you shall find more chances to combo.

Look, I'm sorry that you're relatively new to Melee and not kinda tired of it like I am. I'm sorry that your character got nerfed massively. I'm sorry that you thoroughly enjoy combos and now it's harder to combo and almost impossible to get long combo strings in.

I know I'm not an overly technical Melee player. I know that I'm not as good as I used to be compared to the rest of the scene. I used to be 10th in the tristate and 3rd in NJ at one point, and now I can't possibly achieve that. I enjoy using characters like Ganondorf in Melee that have short combos and just play with spacing, tricking, and giant attacks.

I can see why you don't like Brawl and why I love it.

As for your large group of comments, I prefer to go with my own opinion and trust what my closer friends, namely Kashif and Steve, say about Brawl being good for tournaments.

 Whatever, when I break the physics it'll just be that much more satisfactory . I have nothing more to argue. Brawl's been out for little more than 2 weeks.

Thread update#2: Emblem Lord is also ****** this thread. Lol at dmbrandon comparing himself to plank. DCscribz and woz aren't delusional. RyanK is not a mindless brawl noob and is good at smash. I just watched Scars combo vid and 10 females randomly showed up at my door. Its that good

As for the first part, sure, great, doesn't change the fact that Ganon can be hit after he dairs someone and lands.

Second part, that's FINE. It's going to be good for tournaments, hell it may even be BETTER for tournaments! Since it's not as competitive people will always have a chance to win and place high. Also, it's easier to pick up, and early tournaments will probably have staggering attendance. I'm happy for everyone who loves Brawl. I just don't.

Then don't suck at the game and don't land right away. D-air higher up, or d-air out of shield or just from the ground in general, and then don't lag. This is like saying "Ganon's d-air lags if you miss your l-cancel" except just not lagging in Brawl is even easier than l-cancelling that move.

You won't be saying there's no good combos as I combo you well with my precious little Pit. :)

LOL @ us coming to a resolution and you telling me I suck at Brawl. First off, everyone sucks at Brawl. Second, honestly if you're arguing that it's reasonable for someone to be punished for SUCCESSFULLY hitting a move, then I sincerely hope you never design a game for income. You will lose a lot of money.

No, I'm not saying anyone sucks. I'm saying that you should just do the move properly and then not get punished.

You can get punished in Melee for successfully hitting too.

In Brawl, instead of l-cancels, just use the less time for an aerial to cancel itself in order to not lag, and then combo from that. I do it with Ganondorf already in Brawl.

I don't think I suck at Brawl. Kashif certainly doesn't. Wes, Dire, Brandon, Ether, and numerous others certainly do not suck.

Riding off the coattails of successful games and thanks to a very good marketing strategy. Not due to a good game.

Your post says "then don't suck at the game." And no, it's stupid that if I'm on my way down and you leave yourself vulnerable that I shouldn't do a move and hit you. THAT'S STUPID, everyone agrees with me and no one agrees with you.

p.s. When are you punished in Melee for hitting people??? Even if you miss an l-cancel, I can't imagine Ganon getting hit ever for landing an aerial.

Now I can truly understand why traditional fighting gamers had animosity towards the smash community in the past and some still do.

They see SSBM as this party game that is only popular cuz of Nintendo characters and how it overshadows thier games in the competitive scene. They think about how it isn't fair. How thier games are great and should have a chance in the lime light.

Now Brawl is doing the same thing to melee. And that 95% of the competitive community who really were just scrubs who cared nothing for melee as a fighter and didn't understand fighters on a high level will move onto Brawl and see it as superior to melee as melee is swept aside even though it is the better game.

Isn't that what they call irony?

What a bitter taste it has.

I'm involved in the competitive scene for other fighters, so that can't possible mean me, Marcel.

Only at super low percents will Ganon's d-air leave you open after landing if you're going down as you hit. If you're coming down on your opponent, d-airing them is usually a bad option unless they're also in the air. Just move to the side a bit and use u-air or b-air, or just air dodge on your way down. Just...play the game smarter instead of just attacking.

Yes, if you don't l-cancel some of his stuff at lower damage, you can get hit.

i think i can beat u in brawl and i played it like 3 times
Put some money on that, kid. Like lots of people, you're underrating me because I'm not popular, and I played like doodoo the one tournament we were both at.
