Finally recorded some footage of Amsah's Ivysaur for people who are interested.

Last stock of the second match (7:14 or so) he tries to end my career...

Why did you let the two foxes take you to YS first match ? It sounds like the worst possible neutral for that matchup (randall screws us up, walls help his recovery, the side platforms are at his usmash height, low ceiling, no room to breathe, etc...), but I suck a lot at the Fox matchup so there may be something I missed.

I don't think that the match-up is too unbalanced on that stage. It's like the melee Marth v. Fox match-up on Yoshi's Story. Enough ridiculousness on both sides that you just get a fast balanced match. You can control the side platforms well enough, and the fact that they're right above the ledge itself helps edge-guarding control. Unlike say, Battlefield where there is some dead space between the side platforms and the ledges.

I'd probably rank the neutrals vs. Fox as follows:
Ivysaur Favoured:
Fountain Of Dreams
Smashville

Neutral:
Yoshi's Story
Battlefield

Fox Favoured:
Dreamland 64
Pokemon Stadium 2
Final Destination

For counterpicks:

Ivysaur Favoured:
Green Hill Zone
Yoshi's Island

Neutral:
Wario Ware
Lylat Cruise
Skyloft

Fox Favoured:
Skyworld
Pokemon Stadium

But honestly, none of the advantages are too game-changing. Except maybe Green Hill Zone and Final Destination.

I was able to go to civil war this past weekend getting 9th in singles. I have a lot of trouble with fox/falco's. Any suggestions?

Hey, I've neglected PM for a month or so to focus on Melee, but after accomplishing some personal goals I'm ready to shake the rust off.

Here's a bracket set from last month v. PP. WARNING, severe audio clipping, TURN DOWN YOUR VOLUME.

http://youtu.be/l5ilBRB4Wyw

I'm not looking for matchup-specific advice (though it's not unwelcome), more just general stuff, options I neglect, situations I fail to read, follow-up potential I don't recognize... Thanks in advance.

at 2:00, when you short hop into him after that dtilt he didn't tech, you can use dair to pop yourself out of get-up attack range. So he'll see the attack, try and hit you, and you can follow up. I do this all the time, it works amazingly well and sets up a really good followup for any tech options they may have. Also, nair off the ledge is often safer than fair, especially if you can get some invincibility off the ledge. Does more damage and if you hit them it will keep you safe all the way to the ground.

I mean either that or it will just straight up hit them, and then you get that followup. It's (mostly) foolproof.

Another dair trick, if you shorthop and hold down while you dair (hold down and a) you'll do a really short jump, the dair popup won't come out, and when you land it's completely lagless. so you can shield pressure dair -> ftilt from the other side and things like that. Go try it out it's awesome.

I do that one as a cross up on shield, it works very well so long as they don't have a good backwards grab (m2...).

Been experimenting with WL forward into ftilt and WL back into ftilt/dtilt. They are very very good.

Happy Easter!!

Playing a few rounds with a friend.

I'd love some feed back, I can't seem to figure out how to come back from the ledge with a character that can out space Ivy.

Don't be afraid to stall a bit on the ledge if the opponent is already positioned into a ledge guarding spot. He's playing the patient game, and you have to obey to his rhythm.
By the end of it, it seems like you were either going for a fair then regrab the ledge, or a fair to cover your approach. Both of which he could beat with a bair because it's so slow he can react to it. Try to mix it up : we've got nair which can hit before the invincibility wears off, an analogous waveland that will get you onstage pretty quickly, and a bunch of ledge options, though I wouldn't advise using them above 100%. Our <100% ledge attack is brilliant in example, and I don't think I've seen you use it.

By the way, since you dislike being on the ledge, try not to go to the ledge during your opponent's respawn. I've seen you do it very often and it always got you in trouble. try to lure him into going to the ledge himself and gain stage control from the get go, it will be very helpful.
You can also CP stages like Smashville if you want to avoid being on the ledge altogether. I know it's not always an option, but these stages allow you to recover high, and that should help you.

And while I'm in this thread, vidjos !Infinity and Beyond 5 - Texas
Denti vs Zero (Pit)
Denti vs Sethlon (Roy)
Denti vs Shokio (Roy)
Denti vs Abstract Logic (Diddy)

Ok there is something definitely odd with the last few Ivysaur matches posted. 3 different users at 3 different tournaments and they're all showing what appears to be Ivy 2.6.

Are people using newer builds of 3.02 which I'm not aware of? Where Ivy has been reverted back to 2.6? I can't be the only who notices this.

Edit: My eyes could be playing tricks on me due to videos being sped up a bit when moved over to youtube. Sorry disregard.

Yeah sorry you're just wrong. The timing and distances are clearly 3.02.

I need work on teams. I really don't know what I should be doing.

Myself and VaNz vs. Boss and DP (Winner's Finals) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yU5H5GpzuWk
Myself and VaNz vs. Mango and Naka (Loser's Finals) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iocJ4DXO3Jk

As for singles, here are the matches I got. Let me know if anyone has any critique. I definitely need it vs. Zelda, and although I don't have myself vs. VaNz in Loser's Semi's, I lost pretty convincingly vs. his ZSS. So yeah.

Myself vs. STN (Winner's Round 3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVhxTXDxisU
Myself vs. JMoan (Winner's Quarters) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V6wF62x2H08
Myself vs. Zhime (Winner's Semi's) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0hNwL4vpDw (Please ignore me playing Fox. LOL)

Thanks in advance. :3

^ no feedback for you, because you're better than me pl0x

Couple weeks old videos of my Ivysaur getting severely bopped :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2dN_8mkkxI Winners semis - Trek vs Alpha Dash (Link)
alternate title -> look at those fancy perfect shields and how they almost compensate for me running into rangs every three seconds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slgbZ7uiEU8 Losers Quarters - Trek vs Shub (Mario)
alternate title -> trek gets edgeguarded by fireballs and doesn't afraid of anything

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKeE-ZnkGuA Losers semis - TreK vs Charby (Marth)
alternate title -> tutorial on how to get hit by Marth's fsmash much more than you should

I'll post some more videos of me when they are online, but I mostly used DK on stream this week end.
As you may figure by watching these replays, especially the Marth one, I need critique and ideas on how to improve my game. I need them badly xD

Is Denti the only majorly skilled Ivy playing at recorded tournaments?

Denti vs:

Problem0
(Link) Winners
AeroLink (Link) Winners
Oracle (R.O.B) Winners
Lunchables (Toon Link) Winners Finals
Sethlon (Roy) Grand Finals

Seems like he's getting better though. But if Oracle had been playing Lucas, he probably would have sent him to losers.

Alright so :
-vs falco : you had a hard time dealing woth lasers at the beginning of the match, but then the falco kinda stopped using them so I wouldn't know how well youwould have adapted. You got a ridiculous amount of grabs, props for that, but you kept on dthrowing him. dthrow is good, it forces a tech chase and stuff, but uthrow can be used to chain grab at low % and set up bairs and upBs at kill %, so yeah it's also pretty amazing and you should use it
-vs wolf : you missed pretty much all of your platform tech chases on wario ware. You should either delay whatever move you're going to use, or use a more easy followup like full hop nair.
-vs link : at several points, you went for an up B at a percentage where it wouldn't kill, resulting in sub optimal combos (and, because it's a 20ish frames move, it also resulted in a higher proportion of dropped combos. On shield break, you should do one of two things : either a charged up smash, if the opponent is above 60%, or a sweetspot dair, which is our move with the most hitstun. You went for a grab and dropped the combo immediately, which is a shame :C
On another note, when asking for critique you should provide videos of you losing, they're much more useful.

Yay for our defensive character that gets so easily outcamped :V

Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it.
