I want to expect better of you, but I know not to
I don't really like that idea, you should be trying to mix up what you do without just never using a single move. I mean, think about Falco without lasers at all or Jigglypuff without Rest, that's just dumb <_<. Thumbs down.
I disagree. After playing Cactus's Falco at Smashpocalypse, I spent the next week or two playing without lasers and I found it to be a very useful exercise in breaking down when lasers are a hindrance and when they are a blessing to my game. You'd be surprised what you can learn for this sort of practice.

o_O Link is AMAZING on jungle japes, his best non neutral imo
He can run away and throw projectiles, yes, but other characters are much better than him at doing that on Japes. Using the hookshot to recover is a pain in the *** and if you get edgehogged you might get hit by the Klap Trap before you jump and get gay killed. I'd MUCH rather camp on a stage like Corneria or Poke Floats with Link because the chance of messing up your recovery is exponentially lower and it's easier to get kills on either stage with the low ceiling and the stage doesn't secretly go off 10 miles off each side after the platforms.

EDIT: Wesley, you don't have to play without lasers to know when it's a good or bad time to not use them is my point.

well, the klap trap screws up almost every character's recovery = /

the side platforms are perfectly sized for dsmashes and up-b, and the middle platform is well sized for setting up uair and dair. the ceiling is very high, but against characters that kill up like fox it's a good choice.

not to mention all the hookshot and platform tricksies he has :chuckle:

has anyone put more thought into when this thing is gonna happen? or if it's gonna be before or after brawl comes out?

I actually disagree with you there. Just my opinion.
So TSA, who can make it to the next ESTICLE? The date is still being discussed, but does January 5th sound good? Please respond in the CT thread: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=79080
I want to go to the next ESTICLE...
I'm a bit confused, so I have a question.

What are these TSA meetings, and when is the next one taking place?
Only TSA NJ has to go to TSA meetings, but other branches are encouraged to hold their own. Like when I hang out at Cactuar's for an hour / week.

So why would you want to pick that stage? Jiggs and Peach do well there, I don't see why you'd want to go there with Link.

There is also nearly no room on the side platforms, with that logic nearly every character in the game is good on Japes because their dsmashes take up the majority of the side platforms. I prefer smaller platforms for setting up uairs because you can jump and cover the entire platform with it. The high ceiling is about the ONLY good thing about fighting Fox on Japes, he can easily run away and completely outcamp you on that stage+has many more options for recovering.

not to mention all the hookshot and platform tricksies he has :chuckle:
You still haven't addressed how sweetspotting the ledge with the hookshot is VERY irritating and about as easy as doing it on Battlefield.

You can't win if you use Falco and don't use lasers. It's a huge waste of time to do that. If you play smart, you should be able to judge when to shoot a laser and when not to without having to play for an extended period of time without shooting lasers.

well yeah, JJ has like the highest ceiling in the game, wouldn't go there to counterpick jiggs or peach... <_<

but how does fox have more options? he can't go low, he can just go high and sweetspot by going down into it or go up at an angle and hope they don't get hit. or try something weird and go for one of the other edges. plus fox can't camp at all on JJ, just stand in the middle and throw stuff, his lasers can't hit you and he's forced to approach

for the hookshot - you should be used to battlefield's sweetspot by now, so i don't see what the big deal would be...

pm me or IM me, doing this in the TSA thread feels awkward >_< lol

Edit: All characters except Mewtwo, who is so awesome that God gave him two fsmashes.

Two points and then I'm done with this argument.

1. You can win without lasers. (in some matchups at least... not Samus... :( )

2. You'd be surprised what you learn, don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

Whoever move locks something that is fundamental to the character is just foolish.

You should never lock peaches float cancelling, Sheiks needles, Falco's shine or lasers etc.

You don't lock something that makes a character far far worse or makes them unplayable. That's just dumb and won't net you any results. You lock a move that will require you to think outside the box once it's gone.

Do you think I'm some kind of a moron Kashif?

Anyway, there are other rules we can do. I thought of one when I was at work.

Forced Edgeguard - This is a great way to work on edgeguarding. Basically you force yourself to only get your kills through edgeguarding. Have great edgeguarding skills is vital to becoming a monster in this game, so this rule will really help with that aspect of our game.

Also, if you don't want to practice other characters that is your choice. But I do think all of these rules will help us alot.

Also I wanted to talk about how we would impose these rules. Would we go by set-up? Say for example we have 5 set-ups. Every set-up will have a different rule that must be played on it. Or we could do time slots. Every hour we change the rule and everyone must abide by that rule. Of course it doesn't have to hourly.

If we went by set-ups then one set-up would be a free rule set-up. Just choose which rule you wanna go by when you start a match.

Also I have another rule.

Strat Session - Wanna practice against a specific character's strats? Ok, then set-up a time match with 10 mins or more. Then pick your characters and go to a neutral stage. Have your opponent use that strat against you that you need practice against. Maybe it's a combo or a certain approach that gives you trouble. Anyway, practice getting around it and talk about ways to beat what they are doing. That's all your doing. No actual playing. This is great because it gets straight to the heart of the matter of w/e is giving you trouble and lets you practice how to beat it. This is the most direct way of overcoming weaknesses in character match-ups.

We should also learn how to use super scopes and homerun bats in the heat of battle. You'll never know when there might a tournament that will have these items on xP

I just offered you people mega cheap hotel stay right in the middle of a line drawn between NYC and Philly, and you didn't even acknowledge it.

Awesome.

Hell, my dad could even make it free if it's not for too long.

NO.

Well, actually, it's up to WoZ. I certainly wouldn't mind if Tunes people came here. The only condition I have for WoZ using the hotel I live at is that I get to play with TSA. >_>;

Uh... Sheik dittos, right?

I really hate doing MMs, even with people I know I'll beat(not saying you're someone I know I'll beat, I'm saying that it's not a confidence thing), but I'll do it if you insist. $5, best of 5.

I'd do a Di contest, and a MM with either inui or sensei 5$ 2 outta 3, or any TSA member, expect m2k. xD I'd also probably come on Sunday if this happened, unless Saturday there was no tournament.

Sorry, Eggm. TSA people only. This is our training regime, after all.

You could join TSA and be part of it all. However, this isn't open to the public, and I will ask people who weren't invited to leave.
