Impa now basically counts as the Sheikah Champion as I always envisioned her. I even think she's just about the most likely and obvious first party newcomers right now! I haven't seen her fight yet in Hyrule Warriors 2, but we sort of know what to expect already right?

In a way, I think Impa will low-key be one of the main characters in Hyrule Warriors 2. Why? All the Champions will die, that's canon. Link will too, but be brought to the Shrine of Resurrection, Zelda will use the light magic to lock herself and Ganon in Hyrule Castle.

So who remains ???

That's right, IMPA! We literally see the part in the trailer where Link falls! I can't see that being the end of the game honestly. I think there will be an end game where Impa takes over the leadership role, and escort Link's unconscious body towards the Great Plateau. Probably even fight the final boss of Hyrule Warriors 2!

So this means , that Impa was yet again a key character behind the scenes of Breath of the Wild! This is truly reminiscent of what she did in Skyward Sword, but in reverse! We meet old Impa first, and then discover young Impa and what she did way later!

If nothing else, I could see her end up being a Echo to Ryu Habusa, which would make sense if there's to be a Echo Fighter outside of the franchise for Impa.

I'm confident Impa will make it now. :D
my thinking is the end game will be zelda taking on ganon

One thing for sure is, the game is going to end on a bittersweet note no matter what happens. Link was put into sleep for a reason.

Huh? If nintendo wants to rep the series there's no reason why Impa or another well liked character can't be in smash :p
Exactly, there is no reason why no new Zelda characters have been added since Brawl (in the loosest sense of "new", since Brawl just added a third version of Link), and it's driving Zelda fans nuts at this point.

It fell like that. There can be a new one if it's time. I think adding back young link was something, but still not enough :p. I'm more curious why they haven't added a new kirby character, but I've already talked about that XD

Am quite certain we'll see how the story starts the 26th. The thought is quite exciting even. I'm sure the story will be quite straightforward, but with heart breaking moments as the eventual fall of Link and the Champions. Some say BotW didn't have a good story, I disagree, but it left way too much for our imagination. This game and the sequel will answer all questions we had am sure.

Impa can't have anything but a great role in this game. She's the only big namesake that doesn't have her role set in stone as of yet. Link and the Champions will fall, and Zelda will lock herself into a 100 year seal in Hyrule Castle together with Calamity Ganon, who will use all this time to create himself a physical abomination of a body that's the final boss of Breath of the Wild. Impa will not fall, as we see her in Breath of the Wild, and she's probably responsible for bringing Link's body to the Shrine of Resurrection.

The fact she's kneeling before the King might also mean she's still somewhat a protector of Zelda. A role that both Link and Urbosa also seem to share , but who cares , if it fits it fits.

This will be Impa's 3rd playable role. Counting Cadence of Hyrule then of course, and not all the ports of the first Hyrule Warriors. This will give her a edge above all the Champions, and of course the fact she's a reappearing character throughout the franchise.

Ain't that the truth? We'd have had Toad, Dixie, Bandana Dee, etc by now otherwise.

Still, it's definitely not a BAD thing for more playable Impa. It helps make her more of a well known name amongst the Zelda cast and will hopefully elevate her up to the more memorable NPCs such as Midna, Skull Kid and Tingle.

This being Smash though, that alone doesn't guarantee playable status, but it will at least make her more of a Nintendo star and less easy to ignore.

I think besides Pig Ganon, Impa is easily the most deserving Zelda character to get into Smash that isn't in yet. She has been in the games since the very first one on the NES, has had a major role in almost all of her appearances being a guardian for Zelda for the most part, and she has been in more Zelda games than any other character excluding Link, Zelda, and Ganon of course. Though I want Pig Ganon and Skull Kid more, I think Impa is just as deserving or more to be in Smash as she is kind of like Zelda's Toad with both being in the games since the beginning, have had major roles, and both not being in Smash yet. I'm rooting for you Impa gang.

I'd say the biggest benefit Impa has is there is a series of games to pull from from for moveset and appearance even more than even the memorable one shot characters in Zelda history. The real question would be what kind of stage she'd have given the number of games she's been in.

Not for a Zelda character ? The main cast all haven't been playable that often.

Impa will now exheed playable appearances in games titled as Zelda games (simply excluding Smash) than Ganondorf, Sheik and Young Link strictly as the Hero of Time. All these are iconic to Ocarina of Time, but give Impa her Ocarina of Time self as alternative look, Link a Echo that's the Hero of Time, and Zelda her Ocarina of Time look as costume and you basically got the most important characters covered. I also want these alternative costumes badly, Zelda also definitely needs her BotW self as Echo. It's time.

Anyway, I think Impa makes a good chance based on her merit being a Zelda newcomer that is simply making the most sense.

If not, I don't even worry! A young BotW Impa was what I wanted for the character to give her a steady flow of roles, making her a mainstay able to double role easily as warrior captain and Zelda's attendant and bodyguard and a elderly sage also with ties to the Royal Family. She was once considered as the one to wield the Triforce of Power, and I think Age of Calamity is ultimate fan service because there was a huge outcry for a game exactly like this. Breath of the Wild sets this up amazingly. Am impressed that Nintendo does this, it makes me realize they listen to their fans and are willing to take risks. Make a spin off game "canon" with its second entry being a total prequel to a game that was their master piece and a total new direction for the franchise is a bold move indeed.

How did Japan react to Hyrule Warriors 2?

some time ago the dev team said that early in the series they had planned for impa to have the triforce of power before ultimately giving it to ganon
Interesting, I didn't know that.

...

So I guess we should forget about Impa in Smash because "people want no more Triforce-wielder"... :p

So, I hope you have some drinks ready, because the TGS presentation will last a while.

Time conversion for the KT events respectively say 8 AM EST (Ryza 2) and 9 AM EST (Age of Calamity), so next weekend will be good timing for those wanting to watch them overall.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

I think Sak would need to do research for that one. Kinda doubt he'd know such an obscure fact.

If Impa is a character in this second Fighters Pass, I expect her to be showcased the 26th.

Impa is once again the first recruitable character in Hyrule Warriors. This is great! She looks a bit too much like Paya for my taste, but I'll take it. Her moveset is very unique, and looks like a blast to play! Definitely maining her again :D

I also love the fighting mechanics of this game

Seems Impa uses Paya's model, but with longer hair and the hat. Her playstyle already looks the most interesting of all playable characters too. And she's a major character in the cutscenes. I'm sure she's the first character to be in line in terms of Zelda newcomers now. Was already sure about it, now even more.

Well, it's now a contest between two Koei Tecmo takes on Impa potentially becoming playable: the standard Hyrule Warriors version or the Age of Clam Chowder version

Meanwhile, BOTW Zelda becoming playable in Age of Mini-Guardians remains a potential obstacle that could easily be prioritized over both. The only reason Sak ignored BOTW Zelda was her being a researcher, now that excuse is gone.

Looks like we'll already hear about a new playable character tomorrow.

I do admit I was surprised at Impa's facial expressions at first and expected her to be more "mature" and "serious", but I like this change up.

You also must realize that Sakurai probably wouldn't want the Zelda cast to be filled with nothing but variations of the same 3 characters over and over again
