Sup guys, Thought Id get around to posting some of my matches

Big shout outs to Soul Train and Girthquake

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2Qbh5ra1QI (D3 v Falco)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0J9w--1Sa-E (D3 v Ness)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2V7jzWRkpo (D3 v Cpt. Falcon)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sAcnqHj1zQ (D3 v Yoshi)
Thanks for posting so many tourney vids, that's way more helpful than all the FG highlight reels, lol.

Btw, do you know you can just nair through pk thunder instead of trying to air dodge?

Some other things:

You should pummel, especially when they're above 70, imo. That extra damage could make your up air or nair kill, plus it refreshes moves!

I forget now whether it was you I saw doing this, but if they start jumping out of your jab to grab, just run up and up air when they jump.

Hold up/away and jump out of pk fire. Seemed like you started to do that eventually though.

When Ness is recovering, jump toward him to bair the second jump and air dodge, then punish the air dodge.

Thanks for the tips, ive been pummeling a lot more in the recent months especially when going for Down throw.

Wow, KobetheChef KobetheChef the commentators loved you in that match vs. Falcon.
"There are probably only two competitive level Dededes in the world, and Kobe is both of them"

I finally got round to uploading matches. Now I thought I played 5 matches against Jonathan, but apparently I only saved 4, maybe I only played 4 to begin with, I forgot. Also, please excuse the first match versus Jonathan's Falcon, the other three versus his ROB were a lot closer. Anyway, please break me apart with your commentary :)

The two major things I know I must learn is 1) grab moar and 2) get around ROB's spinny-thing ledge-setup.

Awesome matches. The Zero Suit one especially, it looked like the opponent didn't really know how to react to potential threats from Dedede, because it wasn't a bad player.

The one versus Cloud... basically sums up the problems I've been having. It's one thing to have a bad recovery, but being able to wholly charge Limit whenever Dedede recovers is annoying. Compared to Wario Waft the hitbox is massive, and you have to deal with that 3-4 times per match, Unlike once with Wario. His low-low end-lag which is comparable to Little Mac doesn't make punishing any easier either, but unlike Little Mac, Cloud isn't countered by platformed stages.

In short, the only way I can think of to deal with Cloud is getting him off-stage, but getting past sword or confirming a grab is hard on itself already.

A couple of sets I played at AGDQ that were recorded. I'll post a couple more once they're uploaded.

:4zelda::4sonic: vs :4dedede::4zelda::4dk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TXZ2ecAsCw (first match I use Dedede)
:4sonic::4shulk: vs :4rob::4dedede::4samus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JePQMbNgjhs (use Dedede in the middle two matches)

Props to the Sonic player, he's really good. Managed to squeeze out that first set I played against him, but he straight outplayed me the next two. Part of it was just me trying to make things entertaining for the little crowd we had, but the outcome would've been the same had I stuck with Dedede the whole time.

Any critique other than don't pick Dedede into ZSS? Lol. From CFL's weekly.

https://youtu.be/4h8wINLcKVk
Only two things. First, Zero suit was zoning and baiting you out, jumping around, expecting you to approach or grab. Don't take the bait. Just run away until ZZS takes the initiative and wait for her to do something stupid, and punish. I think this is the best (only) way to have a chance against defensive types like this.

Second, and this is not related specifically to this match, if you're above her, stuck in hitstun, depending on position either DI down and away from her or down and to her. Di down and away if she's diagonally down you, DI down and to her if she's straight below you. In the first case, her UpB might not sweetspot and if it does, gives you the best chance of survival. In the second case you'll avoid her sweetspot altogether, allowing you to punish with Bair.

Maybe, and this is a personal thing, I prefer to backthrow, because it does a guaranteed 13% and allows you to stay on the ground and give you the neutral, compared to Dthrow 6%. If you Dthrow, you have to follow up with the correct areal which depends on ZZS' DI and it puts you in the air, which makes you juggle food.

Not much else, the second match was better than the first, but you know the match-up is horrible.

Dthrow bair. If you buffer the turn around without taking any steps it covers both DI in and away or no DI. She was getting past Dthrow fair easily by psyching you up and DI'ing in. More damage more coverage and better conversions

Not a tournament vid, just a match I played with a friend of mine online. This was the first one I used Dedede that day (we go through a bunch of the cast to warm-up/try out odd characters/for fun, or at least I do) and even though I dropped a few combos I felt really on point. And that ending was just great.

I should probably stress he's not that bad, we're on a pretty similar skill level most of the time, it's just sometimes I body him or vice versa...it's just the way of the game.

While not as stylish as girthquake's video, I present to you the easiest link fight of all time (my guess is that this person was not a Link user at all, but it's the first time I do a two stock with only 4% damage which I did to myself).

Enjoy

In this time where Dedede seems to be in the dumps in the tiers and such....
Remember this....

He can crush his enemy (and that without taking any damage)

Sup guys, long time no see. Went to my first tournament rocking my classic Purple Deeds. Lost in winners round 2 to an amazing Bowser Jr (anyone got advice on the MU?), and worked my way up losers all the way to losers round 6. Not bad for my first outing but I can do a lot better for next time.

Here's the bracket (my tag is "ItalianStallion"): http://challonge.com/Feb16Smash4

Two vods! Thought I did pretty well but please gimme some pointers that'll help my game for the next tourney! Next DePaul tourney is in two weeks I think.

Thanks for posting these sets! Lots of fun to watch, not often we get to see the King win. Alright, so first, I absolutely loved the Dthrow->Gordo use! It worked perfectly against ROB, just be cautious that anyone with faster aerials can mash out and reflect the Gordo. Also really liked your SH Bair to jump, Nair punish mixup. Very few D3s know you don't have to land after SH Bair, and that the move itself can be a mixup. Then LOL DAT HAMMER KILL so glorious. This is why we play D3 yoo

Great defense overall. Really solid shielding you had there shut down a lot of their attempts to change momentum.

Honestly my main "critique" is that I'd love to see you playing...better players, who know how to pressure. Neither that ROB or Fox really knew how to play the matchup. Both were scared, repeatedly put themselves in bad places, and didn't react to you well. A good ROB can really camp and frustrate D3, this one used projectiles sparingly and often would blatantly misuse them. Several times you were above him and he'd...laser. Then you would fall down and punish. Then Fox can just sit outside Ftilt range and punish ANYTHING you do; this one...didn't do much other than fish for Utilts/Usmash. D3 is free to Fox's offense, and he just didn't make you feel that.

Besides that. ROB in particular kept recoverying waaaayy high, I would've liked to see you punish that (maybe jump up into him, airdodge his falling Nair, then you Nair to kill). Also you had conditioned both opponents to really be scared of the Ugordo edgeguard - that's when you can mix things up. Go for a ledge trump, or even a run to the edge->reverse Fsmash.

Also Girthquake Girthquake would kill me for not mentioning it: Dthrow->Bair->Bair->Bair->lol is the shiz. Try it out, it's great tool to condition them into your Dthrow->Gordo-ness.

Hah while they seemed like cool dudes, those commentators didn't know too much about D3 either. "Dedede has such good aerial mobility" lol k

Thanks a bunch for taking time to critique my matches!

And yeah D-Throw -> Gordo doesn't work against characters with a fast Nair, and most chars can jump out. I usually only really use it against heavies or people that don't realize they can Nair or jump out lol.

And yeah that Rob player is actually pretty good and last time we played he almost beat me, but i dunno maybe he forgot the matchup or something I dunno lol.

And that Fox player is actually one of our better Fox players, probably our second best or third best. Last time we played he did beat me, but a friend of mine that goes to my school mains Fox and we play kinda often so I guess I could say I've gotten pretty good at the matchup.

And yeah that bit about Dededes air mobility was pretty funny

I can also post some other vids of me playing because I usually play on stream a lot since I'm one of the main commentators for Chicago. So I could post some more recent vids against some of our Top 15 players where I win and lose if you want me to

Oh and also thanks for mentioning the shielding I actually kinda take pride in my power shields lol because my main practice partner is a Lucas/Toon Link player so I'll say I've kinda been forced to get good at power shielding if I ever wanted to punish that type of character lol

Nice games. One of the commentators in the first video notoriously sounds like Steve Buscemi.
