Alright guys. It's time we got a new guide going. Deflowered has helped us a lot throughout the year and a half it's been up, but it's time we worked on something new, with our metagame changing as much as it is. I'd like to run the project, with help from those Olimars that can help. If Fino would like to make it, that would be fine as well. But I don't know if he'd want to put forth the work for it, lol. Especially with how much Deflowered took to make.

So what I'd need from others in making this isn't that complicated. Sections that we're going to need covered is the main thing. Simpler things, juggling methods, recovery options, differences between the five pikmin, line management. Stuff like that. I want to cover everything that doesn't have a thread dedicated to it (such as stage discussion or matchups). And I want to make sure I don't miss anything.

The next thing is filling these categories in. Making sure that I'm able to put in as much information and advice into these, in a way in where it doesn't just come from me, but comes from the whole community. Because I want it to be a community guide. I'll probably make a thread about it soon, with that thread dedicated to the creation of this guide. I don't plan on it being done really soon, because I want it to be as good as possible. I won't be here forever, so I want to be able to give something like this to the community to help Olimar's metagame before I leave.

YES! FINALLY! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAY TO ARRIVE :D

I may not hold the title of world's greatest (or even my state's greatest) Olimar, but I know enough about him to help write a competent guide. I like the writing format that you suggested, and the important thing is getting all the topics covered - how about we start making a bullet list of things that need to be addressed?

  • Pros/Cons
  • In Depth Move Description
  • Camping
  • USOOS (I know this is part of move description, but we need to shout this from the mountaintops)
  • Common Combos and Strings
  • Recovery, recovery, recovery!
  • Include links to the threads like "Colors For Every Occasion"

That's all I can think of atm

I'd be willing to help. From experience, it'd be great to get input on things people want to write and then hold them to writing that section. Take that section, post it on a separate thread where the community can critique and add to it (since that's the easiest thing for lazy people such as myself, dabuz, rich, etc) to get a variety of input.

I don't really know though, also some other sections
Stage control
Ledge-to stage options
Landing options
Olimar's role in doubles

EDIT: **** the knicks

Yeah, I really, really liked the Pikachu guide. Going to make a list of what categories we'll need soon.

Edit:

-Background Summary of Olimar and Pikmin
-Why choose Olimar?
-Strengths and Weaknesses
-Qualities of different pikmin
-Move analysis

-Defensive Options
-Camping Tools
-Stage Control
-Whistling
-Landing Options
-Situations to avoid
-How to get away

-Offensive Options
-Approaching Methods
-Getting the Kill
-Gimping and Edge Guarding

-Combos and Strings
-Juggling
-Tech Chasing
-Baiting and Punishing

-Recovering
-DI and using your jump
-Tools to help
-Getting from the Ledge to the Stage
-At Respawn

-Advance Techniques (uhh)
-Up Smash Out of Shield
-Instant Return
-Tarzaning (...yeah seriously)
-Anything else..? XD

Parts being considered:
-Playing with items: It isn't exactly matchup specific too much, because there are a few matchups where knowing how to use items is really, really important (Diddy, Rob, ZSS). This would be in the Defensive Options Section.
-Olimar in Doubles: I'm fine with this, but I would need at least one other Olimar to assist me with it. I'm not the best doubles player, so it would be hard for me to write a section on it and it be well informative.

Think of anything else?

Getting a banana chucked at my face. WHISTLE!!
That is an awesome idea!
-I think there should at least be the major info on pikmin types/colors in the guide, as well as the links to other threads with them in there.
-When we do the AT section, get some videos of them if there are any.
-The combo section should be grouped by types of combos, dthrow combos, nair combos etc.
this is epic, i hope to contribute what I have figured out so far.

Where do we mention watching your line?

We should mention ways to get out of a techchase considering how Oli is so prone to it.

A list of Oli players whose videos are good examples.

I suppose we should put all of our ATs in the guide just for reference.

Usmash OoS, jumpcanceled if you have tap jump off

Instant Return

Reverse JC Usmash

That Weruop Tech that Shuffles pikmin to the end of the line

Platform canceling.

Pikmin silent pluck off the platform thing.

Oh, pluck canceling. Forgot about that. Reverse JC Usmash wil be listed if we get a good understanding of how applicable it is, lol. None of us really.. do it. Rosa Parks definitely should be added. In fact, there should be a whole section on line management. Don't know how I forgot that. Platform Canceling I'm not sure if it should be listed. But if someone wants to do a writeup for it, that would be fine, I suppose.

Hilt, if I get a copy of Brawl anytime soon I don't mind doing Hitbubbles.

In fact, that's going to be one of my projects I want to complete. Hitbubbles for every character. Although it's a ton of work for me, as I need to take pictures of every frame since I can't simply record and make a .gif

Since Snake and Pit are done, idk about Sheik, I can do Lolimar's first because Richbrown is my hero.

How will our hitboxes get done?
If we do get hitbubbles, I'll probably be the one to do it.
Hilt, if I get a copy of Brawl anytime soon I don't mind doing Hitbubbles.
I'm talking to Bionic and will probably do them. But if you'd like to, feel free.
If you know PSA or have completed a hitbubble character before, they're really easy.

Either way, I have half of them completed (the non-pikmin ones), but doing the rest of the attacks would be REALLY time-consuming lol. Which is how I started writing a how-to for Hilt and then somehow became distracted with college. :urg:

Bionic, let me know when you're able to help me out, just send me a message on AIM. Or I'll send you one next time we're both on. I'd like to get this taken care of :)

Apparently hurt-bubbles are being made now. That would be a lot faster and almost equally as useful imo.

Stuff on that got halted; it turns out Dantarion's program misnamed hurtboxes for Smash Ball Aura points. We know it's able to be edited (see Dant's vid), I still have to open Tabuu and find which "Unknown" one it is. :p

There's lag. The move takes eight frames (on most stages). You still have to go through all eight of those frames before you're able to do anything. It just looks like there isn't any lag becasue eight frames is such a small amount. Watch some of my videos, Fino's, or Brood's. You'll see us doing this during dashes all the time, haha. It's not anything new.

I might be updating this (since Draco's not here to do so) and messing around with the stickies in the next day or so to make it a bit easier to see new topics.

EDIT: Okay, unstuck a few things and added some topics to this directory.
I'll be doing a few more things sometime soon to clean up a little more.
