The official APEX 2011/2012 Planning Thread - Dates listed for Melee regionals

In the many years I have been here in this community I have never felt stronger about an idea as I do for this. Apex 2012 will be the biggest event of the smash world and I need all of your help.

What we are planning is something that would involve the entire community. That all begins with the heads of the community ( US ). Let me show you what I want to do first then ask of you what I need.

Imagine a “Road to Apex “where we would have 3-4 Tournaments for each game (Brawl and Melee). These tournaments would be in a different region all under a unified Apex Ruleset ( which will be redone for both games once we begin the project ). The events would span the months leading into the event and begin on the WC and move towards the EC. Each of these events would have a winner of Singles and a winner of Doubles. Those winners would benefit by having first seed in pools This would help to create hype for events and Apex itself. Imagine if we really put this together and made the experience amazing.
Now imagine Apex…hundreds of people, sponsors, and all of us working together. We can have a year-round event that makes our community grow in more ways than one. For this to happen we need to work together and really push this. This is why I came here…for your help.


With the BBR/MBR I need you guys to help me with this event. I would like first to ask for TOs that are here to help volunteer from each region.

So far we need these regions

Brawl

· EC : Alex Strife
· WC : GC Guy
· MW : The Real Inferno
· South : UTD Zac

Melee

· EC : Alex Strife
· WC : wwjasond
· MW : Vro
· South : Hbox


With that out of the way I am now calling for those willing to help out with the event. There are a few positions that I need help to fill in order to really get things going.

These positions are:

· Public Relations Manager
o This person is in charge of the outlook of the tournament. Everything related to the tournament will be publicized by this person. Their job also is to help obtain sponsors and provide a great experience for all those attending the tournament.

Position filled by VANZ

· Side Events Coordinator
o This person is in charge of the side events of Apex. Those will include P:M, B+, B-, and SSB64. The goal is to run these events properly and efficiently.

Position filled by Jcesaer

· Art Director
[FONT=&quot]o [/FONT]Along with Crismas, this person helps to design the website, AIB skin, and all things art related like Sigs and Vids for Apex.

Position Filled by MetalMusicMan

Content Director
o The Job here is to create content for AIB. This includes interviews, tournament breakdowns, and other content for view on AIB.

Position filled by Rich Brown

These people will be interviewed by me and I will approve once I consult with AZ on whether or not they are capable. This will only be posted in the SBR ( BBR + MBR ) because I want us to be a major part of this event and I trust you all. For reference you will be paid for these positions and/or get free entry to Apex.

As more things are needed I will post more info as it goes along. Let us work together to make this event OUR event and really get things together.

EDIT : I am looking for a Main TO for melee I have now HBOX but I need someone willing to work only on the tournament and not play. I am asking the person in charge of GSG to see if thats possible.

I'd recommend Toasty for ATL South Public Relations.
he gets work done when it comes to that sort of thing.

He runs several gas stations (as far as being business savvy goes) and is more than mature and capable enough to talk to sponsors.

The PR person would encompass everything and work with others to get the word out for apex. Not to mention they would be the point of contact for all international players.

I spoke with toasty and he said he cannot commit for a year of work due to personal things.


I want him to do it and if he said yes I'd love him but for this I do not think he would be able to.




Also, I spoke with AZ and he said if possible to please sticky this thread. I want all the mbr to help me out with this. I would like people to volunteer as helpers or pool captains as well.

I see. I don't think the Atlantic south has another worthy candidate, to be honest.

edit: oh, you didn't mean regional representatives for each position? it might be a little easier if the PR work was divided regionally.

also, Toph will be in japan for a year and a half and he is in good contact with the japanese players

I see what your saying but remember that it is a position that is not just a person doing it but a person in charge of it.

it is like the government where that person is in charge but has other lower officials doing that work.

I want someone willing to take on this task and really show me that they care about this community.

This event is the event where regardless of the game you always have fun. The community is great, the players are great, etc.

I am sure someone would be willing to help.

PR is right up my alley, but this seems like A LOT to do. from what I can tell, you're planning to have 4 regional tournaments that lead into a world tournament (pretty much a league or circuit event.)

This is going to require a PR team which I wouldn't mind leading. let me know if you're interested. I'll check back later

I have concerns about adding people to the MBR solely to aid in this. WWJD is a good guy, but he doesn't have a great understanding of smash and I wouldn't want him to have the same influence in smash-related votes and the like as other members here.

Boards are free/cheap and easy to setup, should get someone to look into it.

Ok all the TOS have signed on. A few things to note.

We will begin the Road to Apex on the last two weeks of Aug. We will begin with the WC then MW then South then East Coast ending on early December. Since these are all going to be regional events we will have no issues with either MLG or anything else. I will be talking with the TOs about their official dates soon.

Also, I am looking to see if people know any contacts for sponsors or even just media outlets. I know plenty but I would like advice from the MBR/BBR

I have a large group of friends who are part of various other video game scenes, most of them have sponsors, I'll see if I can get any good info out of them, contacts or even sponsors looking for events.

I heard you were making a wobsite. I'm competent in HTML, CSS and Javascript. I'm sure you could find nerdier better people than me, though. It's just that most of those people would charge.

Just in case you need somebody to throw down and actually create a site.

Edit: If you need an organization board why not just make one of those free forums for it? Sure they're not the greatest, but they do exist.

That's ok. My main concern is really getting people to these events. Saffrons are amazing and display how well ran tournaments can be in nyc. Only d1 comes close to having well ran events and I think once we announce this information we, as a group, need to push all 4 events

Ok so I did some dates in my head and figured it would start like this


Late Aug - WC regional
Late Sept - South regional
Late Oct - MW Regional
Late Nov - EC Regional


since they are regional we do not need to have them to be major events just enough to raise money for stipends and do seeding.

I trust that should not be an issue.
