where is vanz even from anymore?

yo duck got off on the stream he just ****ed up edgeguards and stuff like that a lot. he probably got nervous. took a game off of s2j and lovage too, that's pretty legit.
Agreed
He SD'd twice in the first match vs S2J

well, these are gonna be changing soon.

i suspect after tgm4.

these will be interesting though.

i'm 1-1 with josh, 0-2 vs stingers, 1-1 vs cam, 2-0 vs moo, and 0-1 vs dj. I have no idea what that's gonna do LOL

yeah, i've played at my level, and i'm pretty happy about that. (oh yeah, i'm 1-0 vs jim and karn too)

i wish i couldve beaten stingers this time around though. at least this time it was a better set than the first one. i came ready and prepared and still lost lol.

they'll def look a lot different than this rounds, thats for sure.

but theres still gonna be some confusion for the panel to sort out. there was better attendance and such, but now theres just some really weird triangles going on that they'll have to sort out. (me beating moo, moo beating stingers, stingers beating me) and probably some others too.

but i guess that's what they're there for lol.

well twitch, you'll be going to the gold mine won't you? you'll probably get decent data from there, so it should be okay.

ik you lost to esam and stingers, but who did you beat?

this is just a question about the overall attitude of these PRs (on a subject that has now become relevant to me huhhuh)

what is the panel's stance on the difference between pool matches* and tournament bracket matches? (*specifically for when the pools are only for seeding)

should both be weighted the same despite the fact that one matters more?

my stance on this has been fairly consistent. in terms of importance i think it goes: tournament bracket -> MMs -> pools (seeding+elmination).

what does everyone else think?

^ i agree with the line of importance being bracket > mms > pools. it's arguable whether mms/pools should be considered on the same level, but bracket is obviously the leader

though with the "set count" method of forming the prs, i can't imagine how to implement levels of importance indifferently

uhh

I'd say pools are worth the same as bracket matches off the top of my head. I suppose this is because it's all part of the tournament one pays to enter(anything happening after playing is for money and therefore should be counted equally).

I could see why some say pools should be worth less, but I'm not sure if I totally buy it without reading some reasoning at the least.

Edit: How many tourneys has it been since the last update btw?

The difference is you're not actually at risk of elimination in pools (for seeding), whereas you are in bracket. The motivation that there is for MMs and Tourney matches isn't there for pools, because people don't pay to enter the tournament to see who gets the highest seeding for the bracket, you know =p

gotcha. i just wanted to know how you guys weigh the pools results (my brain splits you into multiple people that make up the panel. some are women and animals, interesting).

the reasoning is pretty much inconsequential since i'm not trying to change anything, but as you could guess it goes something like.. no-risk of elimination should be worth less than risk of elimination. this view just puts more weight on tournament placing/wins/losses for PRs since these results have a direct affect what you payed for physically meaning something. pools can have some effect on things, yeah, but a loss or even multiple losses in pools can potentially mean nothing to your placing. i just wanted to know if you took a stance on focusing on all types of tournament data as a measure of performance or just that which most concretely (and directly) affects the result of what you payed for (MMs are also in this sense more "direct" than pools and why i would rank them as more important. money ftw. **** japan.)

i believe that both sides are understandable enough... just curious.

I'm kind of on the fence on it personally, like I said.

My only response to your thing would be, if someone performed badly in pools but still made it out and then tore up the bracket, then it seems like those bad games should hold them back in a way. Are you really consistent enough as a player to handle more games in a serious tournament environment, or do you only know how to buckle down and last through the few matches that count? One could argue that pools games would be an important skill in terms of determining overall consistency even because of how many more serious matches required at major tournaments.

A bit of devil's advocate for the sake of discussion/helping me decide here.

then i guess me and ron's set count is 1-.7 in his favor...=/

also, i'm still under the impression that a mm has to be at least for tourney entry fee to count right?

ie, my mm vs sushi was pr applicable, as it was a 5$ mm. but the 1 dollar mm between me and moo was not, correct?

that's almost saying matches in winners bracket matter less than what happens in losers bracket. sure, a set lost in winners sucks, but you're not out of the tourney until you lose in losers, so really, winners bracket matters less.

ok so that argument sucked, but i hope it makes sense at least.

yeah, it was at the other ncsu.

it went to game 5, he won. last match wasn't a jv, but it wasn't exactly last stock last hit either. 'twas a fun set we had.

I think pools should matter, its a tournament set where striking goes down and the results matter to the tournament.

Just because people sandbag in pools doesnt mean we should not consider them

they are tournament matches. no one is suggesting that they shouldn't matter.
