This thread is for an event that will begin on the 17th of December, 5:00 PM (Pacific Time)
The event in question is....The Nintendo Trail!

Ever heard of The Oregon Trail? This is basically that, but with multiple people making decisions and interacting with each other. Oh, and also Nintendo.

How it works
Choose a game character that has appeared on a Nintendo system. This can be anyone from Mario to Saki to Cloud.
You can choose up to four items to take with you, within reason. You can also take multiple of the same item to still count as one item slot, but again, within reason.
For example, Samus' four items could be:
Varia Suit
Super Missiles (x6)
Energy Tanks (x2)
High Jump Boots

Samus couldn't have the gunship in her inventory, due to obviously not being able to carry it, and neither can she have 50 super missiles.

When the game begins, all players begin in a town with their items and a certain amount of money. Here, you can stock up on various wares for the journey ahead. Other opportunities to spend money will appear along the journey.

Every situation that arises is controlled by the moderator (mod). It is the players' jobs to react to these situations and try to survive through them. Various events will appear along the way, including battles and opportunities to explore. Items will also be found or available to be bought. Items can be crafted into others. (Ex. a stone can be tied to rope to create a mace)

I also suggest that you elect a captain and co-captain to have a structure to your band of heroes.

Status Conditions
Burn- Significantly decreases fighting ability and movement speed
How to obtain- Being hit by a flame-based attack
How to cure- Status-healing items, time, certain wild flowers

Freeze- A condition where you are frozen and cannot move. Can cause frostbite and death if frozen for prolonged periods of time
How to obtain- Ice-based attacks, cold weather
How to cure- Heat, status-healing items.

Paralysis- The player cannot move. They can talk, however.
How to obtain- Various plants, electric attacks, additional effects of some poisons
How to cure- Status-healing items, time

Poison- The player will die in two days if not cured. Slightly decreases fighting ability and movement speed. Symptoms are not immediate
How to obtain- Various poison-wielding creatures, various wild foods
How to cure- Status-healing items, various wild foods

Confusion- The player becomes unable to fully control their actions. May attack teammates. Wears off quickly
How to obtain- Various attacks, being dizzy, various plants
How to cure- Time, status-healing items

Starvation- Occurs after not eating enough food. Eventually fatal
How to obtain- Not eating
How to cure- Eating

Dehydration- Occurs after not drinking enough water. Eventually fatal
How to obtain- Not drinking
How to cure- Drinking

Eggplant- Player becomes blinded and cannot attack
How to obtain- Various creatures
How to cure- Status-healing items

Tiredness- Significantly decreases fighting ability and movement speed. Slowly worsens
How to obtain- Sleep deprivation
How to cure- Sleep

Godmodding
Never use godmodding. The mod(s) will only use it against you and it almost guarantees something bad to happen to your character. This is an example of godmodding:
Here is a scenario:

User A didn't read the rules.
User B is a pro.

User A:
My character marches into the forest and then comes out with 100000000 MILLION BAJILLION INFINITY FOOD SO WE NEVER DIE OF STARVATION

User B:
My character enters the woods in hopes of finding materials for the team to use for later. He braces himself, and after a bit of hesitation he enters.

Now, the mod knows what to do here. User A is doing it completely wrong, and User B is being completely fair.

Here's his response.

Mod:
User A has come back into camp with 10000000 MILLION BAJILLION FOOD! Great job!

Just as he walks to the camp... Suddenly a strange UFO arrives just above User A! It looks like they've been on a food search FOR DAYS. They immediately spot User A, who is holding a bunch of food!

They swiftly abduct User A, and fly away with him and his stash of food.

User A, you have been taken to alien territory, and in the process of going from land to space, your body was unable to handle the transition. You have DIED.

User B on the other hand, enters the forest, and he spots several apples on a tree! Will you take the apples?
Basically, don't decide the results of your actions. Don't say 'I punch Bowser Jr. and he dies'. Say 'I punch Bowser Jr.'.

Heavily inspired by the BiTF trail, and some text in this op comes straight from it. If you want to see how the game would play, I recommend reading through one of the teams' playthroughs. http://brawlinthefamily.keenspot.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?54

Please express any thoughts, criticisms or questions in the comments and I will try to answer all of them.

As a note, would anyone be willing to be a second mod for when I'm not around? I would really appreciate it.

Sure, I'll join in! I have fond memories of reading through the BitF Trail. :p

I'll go with Chrom instead of Little Mac for better survival potential, haha.

Chrom

- Exalted Falchion (Chrom's most powerful weapon that can be used to heal in a pinch. Dragons beware.)
- Javelin (Projectile. 1x Use. Carries 5)
- Spear (x2. Can be thrown, but better suited for close-combat spearing. Can be used to fish in a pinch)
- Boots (Enables better travel over tough terrain)

Whoa, 20 sounds like a bit too much. You're basically immune to paralysis and poison by that point, and I don't think a luxray could hold 60 berries. Is it okay if I give you 5 each of pecha and cheri, and 6 of oran? You can change them if you think 5/6 is too little.

Please decide your captain and co-captain. Most votes becomes captain, second-highest becomes co-captain. http://strawpoll.me/6294470

If more than one person is in second place, the captain can decide their co-captain.

The group of heroes begins their journeys in a small town. Their leader is Chrom & their co-captain is Prince Sable. The town is home to a wide array of species, from goombas to pikachu. In town, there are two shops: Beedle's General Store & Anna's Questing Supplies. Some wagons are being sold by a raccoon in a suit. You'll probably need at least one of those.

I say we check out the wagons first.

You approach the raccoon salesman. The sign above his stall reads 'Nook's Cranny'.
"Yes yes, welcome. Would you like to buy some wagons? $100 for a wagon with 2 yoshis, $120 for a wagon with 2 bouffalant. What would you like?"

So 2 Yoshi wagons and a Yoshi on its own? That's already a quarter of our funds.

(I don't know, I prefer the Bouffalant. Has more power to them than some dinosaur.)

Now that that's decided, do we have enough time in the day to visit both stores and head out on the trail?

You have just enough time, but you can't dawdle for too long, or you're not going to be able to set out today.

Looks like he was shady. The wagons appear to have been used. Scraps of cloth are scattered everywhere and there's a hammer in one of them.

You enter the store. It's dark and musty. Exotic rugs are hung up everywhere.
"Umm...welcome to the store. How may we serve you?"

Ration- feeds 2 people for one day - $20
Wood- one piece, various purposes - $10
Rope- decently-sized coil - $15
Pack of matches- $15
Bucket - $15
Knife- $15
Frying pan- $20
Set of flowers- comes with pots - $30
Shovel- $10
Fishing Rod- $25
Axe- $20
Net- $10
Lantern- $15
Red Potion- Heals - $15

Okay so, to cut costs for the other store, we don't need a lantern if we have matches, we don't really need a frying pan, we don't need wood if we have an axe, and the rest e should get at least one of but maybe two days worth of the ration and two red potions? Also what about the flowers? We might be able to grow seeds (or pikmin) in the pots, idk.

We need at least two days' worth of rations, I think.

This is what I think we should get:
8 Rations
Rope
Matches
Knife
Flower Pots
Fishing Rod
Axe
2 Potions

We'd have $470 left for the other store.
