There are like four consistent noregon brawl players now that brick is gone, and somehow this summer the number of noregon melee players skyrocketted. So the best bout smashfests are accurately representing the amount of noregon players.

I think its just the matter of finally having a consistent venue, its hard to get hype for one tournament when it could be 6 months before there is another one. Having a monthy tourney with weekly friendlies is going to do a lot for the community.

It isn't worth working hard to improve if you don't have people to play against all the time. For the first time in years Im considering practicing against level 1-3 comps to get down tech skill so I can start taking first places.

Also, how is what Gage said a shock? He doesn't enter Brawl singles.

Corvallis has a pretty dead brawl scene, but after what I saw at best bout, they will probably have more activity with three people instead of one. Corvallis is a dominant melee area right now, with two new players in town; one from eugene, and one from las vegas.

I was being sarcastic when I was saying that about Brawl haha. I enjoy playing it and think it's a decent game. I just don't see it necessary to constantly say it's bad. Especially when this thread is for players of both of the games (64 doesn't count). I just don't want the community to seem uninviting to someone who is new to the scene and comes to this thread looking for people to play Brawl with.

I think brawl on it's own is a good game, just not when you compare it to melee. Both games are really similar except:

*Brawl is slower than melee which I don't liike(although this is a preference thing)
*Tech chasing happens in the air instead of the ground which I just don't enjoy as much(another preference, no big deal)
*There are less movement options
*There are very few good options to be aggressive so the game ends up being very campy in tournaments. (this can happen in melee as well but aggression has a high enough reward in that game to be worth it often enough.)
*The game recovers for you (less chances for good players to show superior technique over bad players, less exciting edgeguards)

Brawl has a fuller and richer cast, and I actually like the animation, I wish the physics would have been closer to melee, at least in movement options even if they decided to slow it down. I think they stayed very true to each character when creating movesets and discounting some of the top tiers the balance between characters is pretty good for the most part. But yeah brawl had so much potential and I just find myself not enjoying it as much as I wish I could have.
