Who is Galarian Ponyta?
Pretty much what it says on the tin: a regional variation of Ponyta native to Galar. This version of Ponyta is pure Psychic, has an adorable horn, and looks very magical. It was revealed during a 24 hour livestream that mimicked a wildlife camera, showing obscured shots of Ponyta before slowly reeling up to a full reveal. It is said that the reason for Ponyta's transformation into a Psychic type is due to the overflowing abundance of life energy in Glimwood Tangle, an enchanted looking forest covered in glowing mushrooms. Ponyta can store this life energy in it's mane, which glows brightly when there's a lot of energy around.

What can Galarian Ponyta do?
As a unicorn Pokemon, Ponyta could be cabable of using its horn, legs, and tail to fight, mixing in some magical themes for a sparkly looking moveset. "But Lumi" I hear you say "it doesn't have any hands to grab or hold items with" but that's where the Psychic typing comes into play~. Similarly to Mewtwo, Ponyta could grab and hold items with it's psychic powers, allowing it to fight alongside all the other biped fighters with ease. As usual I made a moveset for this cotton candy queen:
Jab: Simple 1-2 jab that has Ponyta slice down with it's horn then up.
Ftilt: Ponyta turns quickly and kicks with it's back legs. Good range and a reliable kill option at the edge, but laggy.
Utilt: Swings it's horn upwards, similar to Rosalina's up smash.
Dtilt: Quick slice with the horn along the ground.

Dash attack: Ponyta dashes forwards with it's horn glowing.

Fsmash: Ponyta reels it's head back before bringing it down hard, creating a slash of psychic energy similar to Psycho Cut. Laggy but good range.
Usmash: Ponyta balances on it's front legs as it kicks upwards with it's hind legs. catches opponents behind Ponyta and pushes them into the sweetspot straight above.
Dsmash: Ponyta faces the screen and stomps down hard, creating a shockwave along the ground on both sides.

Nair: Does a full downward rotation in the air with it's glowing horn. Has a hitbox similar to Rosalina's nair.
Fair: Creates a burst of light forwards with it's horn.
Bair: Swipes it's tail behind it.
Uair: Arcs it's horn overhead.
Dair: Kicks hard down with it's hind legs. Spikes.

Grab: Creates a swirly effect in front of it with it's horn, similar to Robin's grab animation.
Pummel: creates a pulse from it's horn that deal damage.
Fthrow: Holds the opponent right in front as it creates a blast of light from it's horn, shooting the opponent away.
Bthrow: throws them overhead to behind it then kicks the opponent hard with it's hind legs.
Uthrow: Ponyta prances in a circle spinning the opponent before throwing them right up.
Dthrow: Ponyta throws them to the ground before daintily stomping on them with alternating hoofs twice (so front left and back right leg, then front right and back left) then stomping with all 4 legs, knocking them right up.

B: Stored Power: Ponyta raises up on its hind legs and creates a shockwave from its horn. How powerful the move is and how big the shockwave is is based on how many Calm Mind charges Ponyta currently has active. On its own it's a pretty good anti-air.

Down B: Calm Mind. Permanent but minor attack buff that lasts until you lose a stock or Stored Power is used. Works as a chargeable move that takes longer to charge each stack you try to charge, for a maximum of 3 charges.

Side B: Psychic. Like a cross between Palutena's Explosive Flame and Isabelle's fishing rod. Essentially a ranged grab, Ponyta focuses psychic energy on a spot a little distance away, grabbing an opponent inside the spot. The opponent can be throw upwards, forwards, behind Ponyta, or right in front of Ponyta (downwards). The psychic field is also a reflector, though using it on reaction is a little tricky with the blind spot between the field and Ponyta. Can be blocked, but the hitbox can last long enough to catch a spotdodge.

Up B: Dazzling Gleam. Ponyta dashes upwards in a flurry of sparkles before reaching the apex of the move and creates a blast of light. Has a hitbox at the start of the move and the end, but not between. Can be angled slightly.

Final Smash: Glimwood Gleam. Ponyta creates a burst of light from it's horn. Any opponent caught in the blast gets transported to Glimwood Tangle. Ponyta appears on a mound above the opponents and raises it's horn, causing the mushrooms in the area to glow and let off orbs of light. Ponyta absorbs the orbs into it's horn and lets off a powerful explosion of light that blasts through the enemies.

Taunt 1: Ponyta poses elegantly with it's eyes closed and mane glowing.
Taunt 2: Ponyta prances in a circle.
Taunt 3: Ponyta swishes it's long mane side to side.

Victory 1: Ponyta gallops around the victory screen area.
Victory 2: Ponyta closes it's eyes as it's horn glows, then raises up on it's hind legs and creates a burst of light from it's horn for the freeze frame.
Victory 3: Ponyta happily bounces side to side.
tldr: Ponyta main gimmicks are Calm Mind: a permanent but minor buff to attack that can be stacked up to 3 times yet takes longer to charge each time, Stored Power: a potentially powerful move that uses up Calm Mind charges, the more charges the stronger and bigger the Stored Power shockwave, and Psychic: A long ranged grab move that combines Palutena's Explosive Flame with Isabelle's fishing rod and can set up opponents for combos or kills or simply throw them in a certain direction.
Why would Galarian Ponyta be chosen?
This is more of a pipe dream choice, but if you want feasible reasons:
1) Ponyta combines the popularity of Gen 1 Pokemon with Gen 8 designs, repping 2 in 1. It also reps both version exclusives and regional variants, a trend that seems to be a main stay in the series from now on.
2) It was the sole reveal of a 24 hour livestream, and while the execution of said livestream could have been better, TPC knew that Galarian Ponyta would be well recieved. Seeing as how many Gen 8 Pokemon haven't been revealed pre-release, not even the starter evos, Galarian Ponyta was chosen to be one of the few revealed Pokemon to entice people to the new games.
3) When else are we gonna get the opportunity to get a unicorn in the game? I mean come on. come on.
