The Ganondorf Weapon Debate

To make this clear now, this is NOT a "Gan0n in br4wlz lolol" tread. Instead, accepting he IS in, this is about what his attacking type would be.

Many would still like the slow but deadly type from Melee, albiet with at least one sword in many cases. But, since there are already a substantial amount of sword-wielders in Brawl, I was thinking to accept the roots of his character, to give his TP desgn a trident/poleaxe for a weapon.

My reasoning is simple. In about 4 games, "Ganon" has used one, and is probably his most recognised weapon. It will also be a unique and interesting moveset he would have. For instance, e could arc it around his head, giving a slow start up bit at the "fork" on the weapon, the damage and knockback would be astronimical, and the speed at the edge of the weapon would be very difficult to block/dodge if you didn't during the preparation.

It would have slightly less range the a fully-elongated Beam Sword, and a bit less damage, but a bit more knockback. Some attacks could be quite swift too, and maybe for a down smash he could plant it in the ground and spin around it, á lá the Ninja Turtles. XD

So, what do you think? Trident, or a sword or two, or bare fists and magic? Although magic could be used with any attacks to enhance them.

The sword has overshadowed the trident as Ganondorf's iconic weapon. I'm personally in favor of Ganondorf using his sword, while his FS is Ganon wielding the trident.

theres a reason why there was coding for Ganon's sword in Melee...they WERE gunna use it but limitations in time kept them from doing so...the reason why clones exist...

Yeah, I would love that. Ganondorf with his sword from Twilight Princess transforming into the old Ganon wielding his trident.

Ganon's Final Smash might just be his pig form from TP...where he just runs around ramming into things...but I dunno...

I'd like TP Ganondorf, with part Magc, part Sword and part foot to the face
As for his FS, I'm not particularly a fan of the trident. I'd like to see a next-gen render of OoT Ganon :chuckle:

Well, I think Ganondorf should have his TP sword, and his dark magic.

Oh, and I'd love to see the OoT Ganon as his Final Smash, with those huge swords (This battle was epic). Sadly, we'd get the big pig from TP.

Who knows?
For all we know, it could be his weird energy form. :p
I'm hoping for the OoT Ganon, but in the Tp's pig form design :)

I'm a big fan of pole-arm weapons in general, so I think him having his trident would be great.

Thing is, the trident is iconic of GANON, the big blue moblin of death. Gerudo King GanonDORF, on the other hand, usually seems to have a sword.

Well recently, GANON refers to GANONDORF'S monster/demon/pig/moblin form.

Why not have Ganondorf, the gerudo/King of evil with his sword, and he with his Final Smash transforms into the goblin Ganon with the trident?

No way, people. His Final Smash is going to be transforming into Beast Ganon.

The way I see it, Ganon COULD wield his sword, but also focus his attacks around evil magic and hand to hand combat.

Standard moves: combination of punches and kicks as in Melee
Special moves: Dark MagiX as he used in OoT...

There was some debate about a sword-draw \/B move that would swap Ganondorf wielding a sword to Ganondorf with fists and magic. Same principal as the Zelda/Sheik transformation, with no actual transformation, just draw/sheath sword

I'll take a sword, thanks. He may have used a trident or other polearms in his monstrous form a few times, but his favored weapon in his human form seems to be a sword. Plus it was what he was planned to have in Melee, if that victory pose of his from the multiplayer mode is any indication. I definitely do not want him to use his bare fists, though - that just does not suit his character at all. Magic and weapons is how he fights.

Naturally, regardless of weapon he needs to use magic as well, probably with his special moves focusing on that, but I would hope that goes without saying - he is supposed to be a sorcerer, and with his magic supplemented by the Triforce of Power to boot. Thats just who he is.

Incidentally, I think the entire argument that there are too many sword users is utterly preposterous. We have all of four announced (Link, Meta Knight, Ike, Pit) out of twenty-three characters - thats by no means a great amount. If we can have seventeen fist fighters (everyone but the above and Dedede/ICs as hammer wielders) at this point and have no problem with that, the number of sword fighters shouldn't even be close to a problem.

The problem with the sword from TP is that it isn't even really his sword. It just happens to be the one that the Sages shoved through his gut. Plus, I was never really impressed with its design to begin with.

The problem with the sword in Melee, and likely the reason he didn't use it, is that fact that it is baseless. The only time he used it was in a tech demo.

I'm for Ganon using a sword as opposed to a trident, however. Despite the fact that a polearm weapon would be a first, he has never used one in his humanoid form (unless you count Phantom Ganon of OoT, which, in my opinion, would be far more wicked to see him use than any sword). Still, I'd like him to be a bit original, so, personally, I'd love to see him wield two swords a la Wind Waker.

the reason why they ended up NOT using the sword in Melee isnt because it was used in a tech demo...but because they didnt have enough time to put in his full moveset....so they made him a Falcon clone....Melee was made in like 7-8 months (or so Ive heard)....Brawl has been at it for I think 2 years....there is no rushing here...Ganon will be like how he was intended in Melee....with his sword......w/ magic...

saying that he shouldnt have a sword because you got used to his Cpt. Falcon influences or because you dont like the design and background of his sword in TP doesnt stop him from having that high chance of him having a sword and magic based moveset....of course I would love for his moveset to incorporate fist-fighting techniques, sword attacks and dark magic.....

*Sigh*

I only hope they give him his signature Magic Ball that Link ALWAYS has to deflect back at him...

And the sword that stabbed Ganon shouldn't be his weapon, but neither should the trident. The tech demo sword would be cool and acceptable, but I'd prefer something original rather than a sword user...

What about the Megaton Hammer?

Ooooooh, Trifecta. I like it!

Ganon > Zelda > Link > Ganon

Nice. I would much prefer to see Ganondorf with a weapon, however. Maybe this is Sakurai's chance to come p with Ganondorf's own weapon!

That'd be awesome and the best! :chuckle:
If he can make a mechanized hammer for DDD, he should be able to make a sword for Ganon.

Idea: He uses weapons, and magic!

I had a similar idea. The Specials would be the same the rest of the moveset would be altered.

At first, that's how I thought Pit would play, with his down b splitting his Bow in two.

I hope that, if not Ganondorf, then some character would be a move like this. It would would be very unique.

A trident would be my choice. Most of his standard attacks would be based around the trident, some using magic, while his B-attacks would be some cool magic attacks. >B should be his magical tennis ball thing he throws, with the ability to aim it and charge it(not like Samus, like Ike).

If he gets a sword that's fine as well, but I would prefer it to be a large sword like his "secret" Melee sword, unless they come up with a new awesome sword for him.

I personally would have to choose the sword and dark magic option but i would still like some sort of fistfighting attack in there.
i chose the sword because when i imagine Ganondorf fighting Link with weapons i think of the sword but my mind is still open on this matter, also does anyone have pics of Ganondorf (not Ganon) using the trident.

I just remembered something from TP: in the final battle (and I mean the very last of them all) ,Ganondorf not only battled link with the sword but also with a combination of hand to hand combat (for example: sometimes he did an elbow thrust like the one in Melee and then a slash with his sword). I would like to see Ganondorf fight like that in Brawl. But if Ike already fights like that ( I wasn't able to see it, but somehow I think he does) then i would like to see a not totally defalconized Ganondorf . (that is, keep some of his moves but take others, like keep the Up-B but replace the neutral b with his downward punch he used in the final battle in OoT to shatter the floor).
Also, his Final Smash has definetely got to his Ganon pig form from OoT

Ganondorf would not only represent Twilight Princess, but other Ganondorfs from other Zelda games too. He would have his TP design, with his sword from TP, but transform into OoT Ganon. I hope that is the case.

his moveset would probably incorporate moves he used in OoT, WW, and TP....and maybe even other games like ALttP or FSA or something...

I personally think that he should just use his sword...he was meant to use it anyway...

I'm for a swordless Ganondorf in Brawl. Not for any stupid reasons like, "dere r 2 meny sord uzrs in barawl" (is there an excessive amount of people who fight by hand?), but because I kinda like his brute strength. When playing as Ganondorf, I feel as if I'm really playing as an incredibly powerful brawler, and I'd like to keep that feeling in Brawl. They should definitely alter his moveset to include some moves that make use of dark magic, however.
