Needs to be stickied. Like, soon.

Other than that, this is a pretty good idea, combining both useful links and an FAQ.

well, you could do what i did for the frame data thread: report this thread, then explain you're not reporting it because it's spam or anything, just that you feel it's quite useful and should be stickied so as to not get lost in the process of normal posting.

on that note, who is the mod for our room? i couldn't find that out, so that's the only reason i did the reporting method, rather than message and make a request directly that way...

Hey guys, new here and to smash in general. I have some questions about ATs.

I've been learning with a custom control scheme- z set to jump and y set to grab. Is it possible to DACUS with this custom set up? The DACUS tutorials I've seen say to use z for the upsmash cancelling the dash attack, so I'm not sure if my customs disallow that. Would I be able to do it using the a-button or no?

My other question is about RAR, or "reverse aerial rush." I've heard some buzz about this but I'm not exactly sure how useful it is for Ganon and how to work it into my gameplay. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you want to DACUS with this setup you will have to claw and either use Y or A with your pointing finger. I personally press A with the pointing finger while pressing Cdown with the thumb, but to each his own. You can also set either L or R to attack if you can't claw.

RAR allows you to carry some of your run momentum while jumping backwards, it's interesting when you're dashing to an opponent but want to hit them with Bair or reverse Uair. You can also use it to edgehog easily. Try to mess with it and you'll find more uses.

What do you guys think of the christmas magic that is up angled Ftilt > DACUS? I've landed it a couple times now and it's just wonderful.

Edit: I feel like Ganon has a lot of tech that's straight underutilized. Maybe it would be a good idea to catalog it here or in another thread. Just stuff like what normals can be wavelanded, the arty vortex, chaingrabs, DACUS setups, and stuff of that nature.

That belongs in the strategies and gameplay discussion thread.

IMO Ganon is extremely underdeveloped. And that's probably an understatement. It's the only reason why I haven't abandoned him for tournament play.

Questions: How do I pivot tilt? How do I full waveland? How should I play ganon in neutral? What are his best approach options?

no idea on the pivot tilt. it seems useful, but i still need to work on my overall control game and wavelanding before i want to mess with that.

full wavleland would be basically airdodging horizontal into the ground, so it's mostly a thing with platforms. you go pretty far real quickly.

neutral ganon is a lot of ac nairs and wavelands (oftentimes out of a move, easiest would be bair). ganon's neutral is hard because most of his options require you to commit heavily or get really hard reads. a lot of characters can just make you have to do all the commiting and approaching, too, which is sad days : /

your best approach options are what i outlined above. ac nair is super good (if you get the 12% hit on the second kick you're slightly positive, so you can condition people to sit in shield then grab them and stuff. if they roll, you can go for reads and punish off those). run up-rar bair-waveland is tricky and can catch people off guard, since you can either wl away for safet or aim to go behind them with a wl toward. if you catch a hit off that bair-wl you can also get followups by wling toward.

watch yourself and make sure you don't overuse kick or flamechoke. they have a very definite range and a lot of lag on the end, so if you over use them, you're just going to get baited out and punished hard over and over. you have to learn to be very patient as ganon.

Hey, I just made a new video and match up thread to hopefully clean up the boards now that 3.5 is out.

Any chance we could get those added to the OP?

Question: I picked up Ganon when 3.5 because he's a real MANondorf now, so I got that you need to be patient and really solid mind games but is there anything else required to be a good Ganon? What techs are necessary to learn or can he do just fine without them? (I suck at techs)

You at the very least need to be consistent at L canceling. Wavedash and waveland are strongly recommended. Then when you master those you can try to implement some small Ganon techs like edge canceled wizkick and air to ground flame choke.

I can L-cancel so I at least got that down. Also what are good follow ups to the flame choke, especially if they DI behind you?

if they're within kill percent (or you can set up for a solid edgeguard) wizkick behind you and followup.

otherwise, it's character dependent, due to tech roll spacings (and if they tech at all). your safest bets would be bair or its variants (run back-rar-bair, float-bair, run back-rar-float-bair, etc...) depending on what they're doing and how far they are or another flamechoke to build up more damage and reset the situation again.

though, you can do a lot of things if they're predictable, even going as far as going to where you think they'll be and stomping them into something else. it all depends on if you're reacting or predicting, and then, in both cases, how far you have to go and how much time you have to do it.

It's not very well known but people can DI the fall before touching the ground, and by using this you can get a wizkick 100% of the time out of grounded Flame choke.

Simply do a normal down B after flame choke, hold :GCD: and just watch if they're falling straight or diagonally.
-If they're falling straight down or diagonally forward then do nothing and wizkick forth
-If they're falling diagonally backwards then angle the stick diagonally backward too and you'll reverse your wizkick.

You just need a cool mind and a good reaction time but once you get the hang of it it's 100% guaranteed and the safest way to rack up percentage after a successful choke.

It can also be used to tech chase chain choke, but it's not 100% guaranteed as your opponent can choose not to tech to dodge the side B. Not teching won't help them dodge the Ganon express tho.

Best are easily wario ware (land) and yoshi's melee. Y:m isn't used as often in rulesets, though.

Close after those are fountain of dreams and green hill zone, IMO. Battlefield isn't bad, just due to mobility options via platforms.

You'll almost always get WW struck, so never count on that. Most of my experience has people next striking GHz, which means I go fod for 90% of my counterpicks.

Worst stages are probably... Delphino's secret and dreamland. Big, relatively open stages making it easy to be run from.

Ps2 is actually a rather large stage, as well, it just happens to have mediumish blast zones, making it seem smaller. Try to avoid it unless it's against a character you can dthrow-u/fsmash to kill.
